Finally two competitors missed their opportunity and we are down to 3 elves and Graarl. The group is hoping that he is able to keep his momentum. The 4 remaining competitors see the bar raised to 18 feet and there is a hush in the crowd. This will be a large challenge for everyone and each competitor walks up to the pit and makes their 3 throws.
Everyone is on their feet. The Graarl group is very excited and realizes that two more competitors were not able to clear the bar and there is only one competitor left for Graarl to defeat in this first level of competition. The crowd watches as the bar is raised yet again, this time to 19 feet. Graarl and the elf take their 3 throws:
(@Tyranossary: I'll need another roll for the inspiration. I don't want to 'hold' onto the six for when it is useful. If you get a 3 or better you win, otherwise you will have a runoff with the remaining competitor. Sorry to interrupt the celebrations.)
The judge rules that Graarl had a 'foot fault' which gave him an advantage on his winning throw. He must redo his last throw (just reroll the inspiration.)
After throwing, this time the judges see nothing wrong but the stone just misses. The elf and Graarl are called forward to try again. Each is given another three tries.
Both contestants again fail to separate from each other as they succeed in throwing the stone over the 18 foot bar on their second series each. The other rounds have completed and all eyes are on Graarl and his rival as they watch the bar move up to 19 feet. Again they are given three throws each and the crowd cheers each attempt.
Graarl is able to throw the stone over the bar this time and the final elf competitor misses. Graarl wins stage 1 of the competition and advances to stage 2. His prize is 10 gold pieces along with the automatic advance to the next stage. In stage 2 the competition is much higher quality. If he is able to place in the top three if stage 2 he will automatically advance to the finals. Again there are 6 competitors in his group and the bar is set at 16 feet. All the competitors are given 3 throws to clear the bar with the stone.
You can take one inspiration throw of the dice and if you get a 5 or a 6 you can move on. Otherwise you FAILED! Weird that 5 competitors each rolling with a +4 succeeded and you, rolling with a +5 failed. Check your inspiration die, I'm allowing inspiration on everything at this point :-) and we'll see if you move on.
Graarl falters and see the field pass him by. The team is disappointed but a new ready for the archery competition. This will also take place in three stages leading to a final stage (two stages and the finals.)
As with the strength stages, the top three automatically qualify to advance in each stage. The draws will be posted momentarily.
