Kvothe turns to Taggart and says “yeah but we shouldn’t bite off more than we can chew and we’ve come also close to that several times already. I reckon we need to build our skills before we go after the big guy.”
Turning towards Kvothe and Taggart, Solis says "Seems to be lot we can do for these people here. I can't walk away from that. But, also, there's a lot they can still do for us. Information is well and good, but we'll need resources and power to take on a threat as large as the death curse. Especially if there's an archlich behind all this."
Eku turns towards Drita, "Did you say Ras Nsi?Ras Nsi was a human paladin and a sworn protector of the city of Mezro. He betrayed his oaths and was banished. Rather than redeem himself, he raised an undead army to conquer Mezro. The would-be tyrant was defeated and banished once more. Mezro was later destroyed by the Spellplague, during which Ras Nsi lost his power to create and command undead. He withdrew to the city of Omu, leaving the vestiges of his undead army to roam unchecked throughout the jungle. That was not the end of Ras Nsi, however. Bitter over his loss of power, he forged an alliance with the yuan-ti lurking in the ruins of Omu and underwent a ritual of transformation, becoming a yuan-ti malison. As a yuan-ti, Ras Nsi imposed his terrible will on the evil snake people and became their leader. The undead horde, no longer under his control, spread throughout the jungles of Chult. Withdrawing to Omu, Nsi clung to his noble title, joined forces with the yuan-ti living there, and underwent a horrible ritual to become a powerful yuan-ti malison — retaining his human head and torso and gaining a serpentine lower body. With Ubtao gone from the world, Ras Nsi and his new yuan-ti followers began searching for a way to bring forth Dendar the Night Serpent. Acererak has promised to help this effort, in exchange for Ras Nsi’s pledge to defend the Tomb of the Nine Gods."
With Eku's words, Drita shrinks back, "That is the name my employer gave to me. He told me that Ras Nsi is guarding something that needs to be destroyed. What is a malison? I have never heard of that type of Yuan-ti before... It certainly doesn't sound friendly?"
Eku looks around and begins to transform into the shape of a large snakelike creature. It has the upper torso of a man weilding a scimitar and the lower half is a large constrictor snake. She stays in that form and slithers around in a circle a few times for Drita to see. "This is a Malison. They can kill you with their poisonous scimitars or constrict you and bite you. Some have powerful magic at their beck and call."
Once she is done she transforms back into her "normal" chultan woman form.
Drita is taken aback, not seeing many things shapeshift in her life. But is even more surprised by what she turns into. "If that is Ras Nsi, then he must be gaurding something powerful... Acererak must have something hidden in that Tomb...."
"You have no idea about Acererak. If he is involved than it is bad news indeed. And we are all not safe. Acererak is an archlich who travels between worlds and is known to take sick pleasure in devouring the souls of adventurers, whom he lures into trap-ridden dungeons where they suffer horrible deaths, his latest is the Tomb of the Nine Gods, for Acererak slew nine false gods and sealed them within it." Eku says as she looks around the little group talking.
Solis listens intently to Eku's story, especially at the mention of an archlich. "Wait...are you saying Nsi and Acererak are behind the death curse? The Spellplague was over 100 years ago, so I take it this deal to defend the Tomb of the Nine Gods happened decades ago. What makes you think all of that is relevant now? I know it's possible they're still alive, Hells, I remember the Spellplague, but how does all that connect to the curse?"
Eku shrugs. "It sounds like something Acererak would be involved with, I don't know if he is or not though. I'm just saying what I know about Ras Nsi."
Yellow does not return Drita's hug. In fact, she stiffens at the Aasimar's touch. When Eku begins speaking and draws Drita's attention, Yellow retreats to put people between them, but stays close enough to hear what Eku says.
Eku continues, " if Ras Nsi is guarding something for the archlich that loves to consume the souls of powerful adventurers then it must be important. " Eku walks away from the conversation and talks with Panwan.
Meanwhile at Camp Vengeance a few days later
Drita hears this from Salhana. She Approaches behind, the two and pokes her head between them, "Hi, I'm Drita. I overheard you had a note that couldn't be read? I know a couple out of the ordinary languages, may I try to decipher that note?" She is chipper and pokes past them and stands in front of Yellow and Salhana smiling.
"Drita is one of a few individuals we picked up on our journey," Yellow explains. "Chevall Lethandaar delivered her to us before we reached the pool. Lethandaar reported to us that he was the sole survivor of the party he was leading. Well, except for Eku. Then, we lost Lethandaar as well. We also picked up Solis," she said, indicating the Aasimar, "and very recently, that tiefling named Kahn." Her gaze lingers on Ahk, but she says nothing further about him. "It is perhaps due to the success of the Vindicator that the undead attacks have lessened. It is concerning about the two parties, though."
Salhana looks at Drita and smiles. " I'm sure Commander Breakbone would be more than happy to show it to you. Just go ask him. He's in the big tent over there" she points out the command tent to Drita and chuckles. Salhana frowns about Lethandaar." that's sad what happened to him. He was one of ours. May Ubtao watch over his soul in the great maze"she says obviously clear she has no idea about Ubtao and his ways but is sincere.
Solis looks at Yellow with a comical look of bewilderment when she gives Panwan all the credit for stopping the undead. He looks left and right at the other members of the party with his arms spread as if he's asking if anyone else can believe what's happening right now. However, he says nothing.
Yellow gives Solis a coy look. "Were you prepared to perform the necessary ritual to prepare the vial?" She walks over and places a paw on his shoulder as she turns back to address Salhana once again. "It is true," she concedes, "that these warriors made it possible for Panwan to complete the task." She looks at Solis. "I did not mean to belittle anyone's involvement."
"Aye, we got the job done alright. Though it wasn't without it's loses, as the others have mentioned."
Kaslo waits for the Commander to be out of earshot and lowers his voice. "Captain, is everything alright with the Commander? He looks like he's seen better days"
Captain Firebeard looks over at Kaslo and shakes his head. His voice very low when he responds so as not to have anyone overhear "I think the jungle is getting to him. I don't know if you remember this place before you left. We had a compliment 58 people. We are down to 20 now. The Commander, Myself and Salhana, Sister Cyas and two helpers and the rest soldiers. Now Panwan is back so that is good. Some were due to deaths by the Dinosaur and undead attacks. A few were due to those two doomed patrols. A few deserted a couple days back. Morale is at an all time low but hopefully this victory that you guys just accomplished will boost the spirits of the men."
"We may not have all come together to be at this Camp, but we all did come to Chult to try and find and stop the soul monger. We did this job for the Order and were promised information on our return. I would like to propose we all continue together once we have this information to try and defeat this curse together. I am sorry to hear about your patrols but we have our own mission we need to continue on." Taggart says to the Captain.
Captain Forebears listens to Taggart and nods. "I understand what was promised to you boy and will make sure you get it. Just give me until tomorrow. Your group did a fine job out there and the Order is indebted to you. Relax and take the day off."
Kvothe walks away from the group for a few minutes looking for an armory but can't find one. He wanders back and hears Taggarts statement and replies “yeah but we shouldn’t bite off more than we can chew and we’ve come also close to that several times already. I reckon we need to build our skills before we go after the big guy."
Solis excuses himself to go talk to Sister Cyas about a Herbalism Kit.
Captain Firebeard brings you to the firepit and there are a few men eating what looks to be dino steaks and eggs. Firebeard nods his head and the men get up and leave so you can have some privacy. "That will be all chef."Captain says to the Chef so the Chef grabs a plate of food and leaves.
Once the area is clear of everyone but the group(minus Solis) the Captain hands out plates of food and some water. "We are in dire straights right now and we need help badly." The Captain looks towards the Commanders tent and frowns. Captain Salhana does the same. "We were talking a few days ago when the desertions started to happen and something needs to be done. The Commander is unfit to run this camp anymore and if we continue down this path we might all be dead. It's one thing to die with honor fighting our fight with evil but its another to die by the incompetent hand of someone that lost his marbles and is throwing his men to their deaths."
Captain Salhana looks over to Yellow "You haven't been here and seen the way he has treated us over the last tenday. The way he has treated his men. If he wasn't such a larger then life Commander of the Order he would most likely have been found with a knife in his gut by now. The men respect his past accomplishments but will not tolerate anymore of his foolishness. We are dying by the handful every few days on fools errands."
Captain Firebeard nods. "We have a mission for you Yellow and it is vital that it gets completed. I know your group has other urgent matters to attend to and I would understand if they do not wish to help you and I will get the information for them that was promised by the Commander by the morning time. But this mission may benefit all in your group."
Salhana nods "Plus I don't wish you to be here for what is going to happen soon. You are a good soldier and respected member of the Order. We,"She says nodding towards Firebeard and herself "Don't wish for you to get any backlash put in your file or be court martialed."
Solis makes his way back to the fire pit just as Salhana finished talking about a court martial.
Meanwhile in the Healers Tent
Before Solis enters the healers tent, the first thing he notices is the smell of death and rot. As he enters he sees 7 cots jammed into the small tent and each one has a sick soldier laying on it. Each soldier has cuts, bandages, bruises, and they all have a sickly yellow color of skin. Some have pus oozing out of wounds while one soldier has blood coming out of the corner of his eyes.
In the middle of the tent is an older lady, wearing a chain shirt with the symbol of the Order in gold on her chest. A mace hangs by her side and her long greyish brown hair is pulled back into a ponytail. She is wiping the sweat off her brow as Solis enters.
"Are you here to help? If not I don't have time for your foolishness. As you can see I am very busy in here." she says with a snarl.
As you look around the room there aren't much in the way of supplies. Most there are a few bottles of some liquid that is labeled 'antidote' and a lot of bandages and rags. You do see a few potions of healing stacked on a shelf (3 in all) and stuff to make splints, needles and threads to sew up injured soldiers, and other various medical supplies but it looks like the stocks are extremely low. You do see one herbalism kit in the corner and it is open at the moment brewing some type of potion.
Yellow's face becomes very concerned as the captains talk about the Commander, almost looking alarmed. When Captain Firebeard says they have a mission for her, she immediately looks surprised and then determined. "Of course, Captain," she stammers. "I'll be ready to go whenever. With or without help." She looks concerned again. "But, sir. I ... I don't like what you're insinuating. I know I haven't been here, but ..." She looks at the group and back to the captains, at a loss for words.
"You just worry about your mission Chevall. We need you to head back to Port Nyanzaru. I need you to bring a letter to Prince Ifan Talro’a. It explains that the Order is in desperate need of Beasts of Burden and that he will be well compensated for any that he could send our way. I need you to bring another letter to Prince Jobal, This letter explains that we need some locals to help us out in the jungle with scouting and such. The last letter is for Princess Jessamine. That one is for her eyes only. The last request is the most important of them all. We need you to talk to Harbor Master Zindar and find out why are supply ships aren't coming in? If they are then you need to find out what is happening with our supplies. We are doomed without reinforcments and supplies. If one of us leaves we are afraid the men will take matters into their own hands and something may befal the Commander and we do not want that even though it may be best for everyone if he wasn't here anymore."
Firebeard looks arounds the group.
"Plus I'm sure you are ready to get back to civilization for a comfortable bed for a change instead of the jungle ground. Maybe to restock up on supplies and other various things."
Firebeard pulls out a pouch from under his armor and tosses it to Yellow. "Inside areseven 500 gold piece gems. Use it to procure the things the camp needs and the rest is for your party to resupply themselves. I will have a list for you of things that need to be shipped here. A shopping list so to speak."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I'm with you Yellow. These guys are in a bad way, medical supplies are less than scarce which means everything else is as well. With all the clerics and paladins they have running 'round, they'll hold off for a while, but poor morale will get them before anything else does. We need to reopen their supply lines while they keep the place from burning down. We could use the chance to resupply ourselves and see what we can find out about the new info we have." He looks at the two officers, "Speaking of, Captains, I heard the payment for services rendered was information on the Death Curse. Let's hear it, we may need that information to use a clout in the Port. The rich are the only ones that can afford a revival. Besides, if we can follow up on whatever info you have while we're there, if saves us a trip and gets us all one step closer figuring what's wrong with this jungle." He finishes with a smile.
(Let's say this happened before Solis's post above.)
Yellow accepts the items from Captain Firebeard and looks a little relieved. "Of course, Captain. I'll do what I can as quickly as possible to alleviate the tensions here. I'm sure once I've secured the help the Order needs, the Commander will return to his right mind. I ... appreciate your concern for his safety." She stows the letters and gem pouch and looks at the captains again. "Will anyone else from the Order accompany me? Vindicator Panwan, perhaps?"
When Solis says he wishes to accompany Yellow, she gives him a silent nod of appreciation.
Captain Firebeard shakes his head. "I'm sorry yellow, You'll be on your own on this one. Eku will accompany you back to Port I am sure."
Eku nods at the Captains statement.
"But you should be fairly safe. You can take one of our barges and just take the river all the way to Port."
Captain Firebeard turns towards Solis. "I do not have that information as I told your friend Taggart, I will get it from the Commander and give it to him in the morning as promised. The Commander got information the first time they arrived with Eku. I need to go get it from him and if he doesn;t give it I will just take it out of his stuff. He is in no shape to argue with me or Salhana. As for payment rendered for services. Nothing was offered to you. If I remember correctly I just met you about an hour ago." Captain Firebeard matches Solis's smile with his own.
Solis laughs, "All well and good, good captain." Turning to Yellow and others with a smile, "I'll be ready tomorrow, though, hopefully, we have a bit more company."
Drita will go to the Commanders tent. As she enters the tent she says, "Commander, my name is Drita. I was part of the expedition with Chevall Yellow. I was told you had a note that was written in a language you couldnt't understand. I would like to take a look at it if you don't mind. Maybe some of my party can help decipher it."

Yellow looks around the group and then back at Solis. "You all have been valuable assets, but I would not presume to drag anyone not in the Order into this mission." She looks around again, her face lit with a little bit of a coy smile. "But I would not turn down your company."
The Commander and Panwan turn towards Drita when she enters the tent. Commander Niles Breakbone stands up and snarls. "How dare you barge into my tent like this. Who are you? What business do you have with me? GUARDS Intruder!!"
The Commander looks over at Panwan "Is she an assassin coming to kill me finally? Do you have anything to do with this?"
Panwan sighs and stands before the Commander where his eyes should be little flames appear and they begin to flare. "Enough of this Niles. She helped us complete the mission. You are being paranoid and need to stop."
The Commander sits down like a scolded child and takes a large swig from his bottle of wine.
Panwan reaches across the desk and pulls out the note and hands it to Drita. "You're not going to be able to read it. It is in Grung. Unless you have the proper magic to translate it."
"Yes, Yes. It was the Grungs. They chopped up my men and left their heads in front of Camp Vengeance to scare us. Those evil Frogs. They need to be eliminated. There is a Grung settlement not two days journey from here. We need to strike and strike fast. What say you Panwan?"The Commander looks towards Panwan with pleading eyes.
Panwan shakes his head. "No Niles. Until this letter is translated we cannot act. We have no proof that the Grung is behind this. Just because it is written in Grung doesn't mean the Grung are murdering our people."
Panwan turns towards Drita. "Take it. This is a copy of the message I wrote down. Maybe you can figure it out. Now if you'll excuse us."
As the Commander takes another large swig of wine he notices Drita standing there. "You there. Go tell your friends the information they wished to hear is Omu. That's where they need to go. Now get out of my tent."
“Count me in” Kvothe says to Yellow. Before leaving the camp the next morning, he applies his insect repellent, checks his water skins are full and refills his crossbow bolt case.
As so many voice their desire to join her the next morning on the journey to Port Nyanzaru, she nods at them, her face growing softer and softer. "Thank you, comrades. Ubtao bless you all. We shall leave in the morning." She walks over near the dwarves and speaks to them quietly in dwarvish.
In Dwarvish: "We will be sure to keep an eye on the tiefling. Your service has warranted the Order's assistance. If you feel he deserves judgment, I will assist in whatever way I can."
Drita returns to the group, She pulls out a piece of paper and looks down at it, "Panwan was there when I spoke with the Commander, he gave me a copy of the note, it's written in Grung, does anyone here have the magic capable of reading this script? I unfortunately do not. Commander said the place we must go is Omu."She looks up from the paper with a somber look."There is something happening in the city of Omu. It cannot be a mere coincidence that we are being told that is where we need to go, and that Acererak and Ras Nsi are there.
