Official thread for the Tomb Of Annihilation campaign
For the past several days, the talk of the streets and taverns have all been about the so-called death curse: a wasting disease afflicting everyone who’s ever been raised from the dead. Victims grow thinner and weaker each day, slowly but steadily sliding toward the death they once denied. When they finally succumb, they can’t be raised — and neither can anyone else, regardless of whether they’ve ever received that miracle in the past. Temples and scholars of divine magic are at a loss to explain a curse that has affected the entire region, and possibly the entire world.
The party has gathered in a small tavern in Baldurs Gate known as the Purple Wyrm Inn and Tavern. You have all met once before for the briefest of seconds and that is when you all decided that you would form an adventuring group. This is your second meeting together.
The Purple Wyrm Inn and Tavern are quite busy this evening, with servant girls running between tables with large trays of food and drink. A half-elven bard plays a lute in the corner of the room, spinning a tale of a Jungle continent filled with danger and death for those not prepared but also filled with enough treasure to make even a king get greedy.
A small boar was just placed on your table with enough ale and red wine to wash it down. The serving wench takes your money and leaves you to your conversation.
Hello, my name is Ahkmenos Khan! Strange name I know, my parents thought it was cool and they had a very good Tiefling friend with the same name...
Anyways! I'm excited to go on an adventure! Most of my life has been pretty normal, I've grown up in a decent sized town. When I was in my teens to twenties I came across a band playing some music and fell in love. Soon thereafter I took some of the money I scrapped together from work and bought an instrument of my own. Turns out, I was really good! A few years later after I felt I was ready, I left my parents to travel from town to town spreading joy to others through my amazing songs.
I hope we'll all get to be great friends!
(my character is leaving some things out, he isn't lying but he isn't telling the whole story)
OOC: Edited to fit with Borak's edited description.
Zachariah steps into the tavern, his chainmail jingling as he does so. A few eyes turn his direction out of benign curiosity, but linger as they catch his visage: tall with pale blue skin, pale blue eyes, and shoulder-length white hair. It's easy to miss the beauty of his armor, warhammer, and shield when compared to his almost ghostly appearance. As off-putting as his coloring is, upon further inspection, a beauty lies within his mostly human features.
Zachariah scans the room for any sign of his new acquaintances. Spotting the table-full, Zachariah heads in their direction, muttering, "Late again," under his breath. Upon reaching the table, he makes eye contact with each of those present. "Good evening," he says before sitting.
OOC: Since Borak says we've all already met, I'll go ahead post this (edited for mystery) description of him:
Despite Zachariah's pale skin, hair and eyes, his features are very human and handsome. While he has a thin nose, he has full lips. He is a very muscular medium build, and a large presence. His chain mail, gauntlets and shield are made of a charcoal gray metal. He wears a white, hooded gambeson underneath. On the left chest of his gambeson is stitched an emblem of three interlocking gold rings with a red cross in the center. In the same spot on his chain mail, the mail has been artistically crafted to mimic the same emblem. On the inside of his shield, which is rectangular and curved enough to stand on its own, is painted a tree full of golden fruit with a river flowing out from under its roots to the bottom of the image. The emblem is also painted in the upper right corner of the inside of the shield. The outside of the shield is unadorned. His warhammer is a mix of two metals: the post is made from the dark gray metal and the head is made from a silver metal. Again, the craftmanship is beautiful. The emblem has been wrought on both sides of the hammer's head, along with other religious symbols and elements of nature. On one of the hammer's two faces, the emblem has been engraved. He wears a hand axe on his right hip.
Zachariah speaks smoothly and softly when he speaks, but he is more of a listener.
"Nice to meet you!" replies the dwarf sitting across from where Ahkmenos had sat, in a deep and booming voice. He is about four-and-a-half feet tall, so his head is just barely above the lip of the table. He wears simple, threadbare clothes, his black hair is disheveled, and his smiling face is a light shade of brown. He is extremely muscular, but he moves with surprising grace.
"My name is Krav*," he says, "and I am also excited for this adventure!"
*(OOC: Pronounced Krahv: "Kr" like in "crunch," "a" like in "awe," "v" like in "very.")
Quite literally perched on the back of his chair, Tap sways with rhythm of the lute, the crystal on a chain around his neck bouncing along. The small Kenku occasionally opens his beak to emit sounds of applause or wonderment that sound exactly like an appreciative crowd; it's as if the sounds were recorded somehow and played back through the bird creature's beak. His grey eyes sometimes flash an eery blue during time which he projects telepathic communications into the minds of his party mates. He now projects an image of a group of people celebrating merrily, you get the feeling he is happy to be here.
Ahkmenos, drunk from all the ale he drank prior to his arrival, attempts to play some nice music. It doesn't go well....
*Insert Fergie trying to sing the Star Spangled Banner*
Oooooohh, saaaaayyy, dooooooeess thaaaaaaat star... spangled... bahahanerher yeh het waaaaavvvve. For thuh laaaaaand of the freeeeeeeeee..... and the home of the
and Ahkmenos will pass out before he even finishes :|
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tap cringes at the performance of his fellow entertainer. Attempting to rescue the situation he grabs his viol and bow [OOC: a viol is like a tiny violin; the bow is what it's played with]. As he begins his performance he "sings" the accompanying instruments with his Kenku mimicry skill and casts a sound based Minor Illusion so that his performance is more like that of a band than a single person.

The crowd begins to applaud, some get up and dance while others tap their feet to the music. Everyone seems to be enjoying this much better performance than the other.
As the night continues and you finish your roasted boar and drinks a stranger walks up to your table. His black silk cloak and clothing suggest he lives a more wealthy lifestyle then yourselves. He bows deeply, his deep blue eyes scan each of you before he speaks in a quiet voice.

"Good evening adventurers. My name is Jacob Hensworth the third. My employer wishes to speak with you of an utmost important matter that she thinks may be something you are interested in. She is willing to pay you for your time to just hear her out."

Ahkmenos gets up after telling his new friends his back story and approaches the bar keeper.
Hello sir, I was wondering if you'd like some comedic relief for you and your guests this evening in exchange for free room and board?

I'm sorry guys :'( maybe I shouldn't have rolled....
You should roll another to represent advantage since Tap is also an entertainer and is throwing in his own abilities as Help.
It wasn't any better :'(
I must be really drunk or something....
Thank goodness! Here's performance with advantage: 4
(Thanks Tap)
Krav flinches at the unexpected mental intrusion, and looks wildly around to see what caused it.
Immediately realizing it is the kenku, he smiles in relief.
A kenku? Haven't seen one in a long time.
"Hello, there!" Krav says.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Krav applauds enthusiastically, clapping his hands together with great force.
He then walks over to where Ahkmenos lies on the ground.
Krav attempts to pick him up: 10
If successful, the dwarf carefully carries Ahkmenos over to their table, setting him in an empty chair.
He eyes the unconscious half-elf with an amused expression.
"Can't hold your ale?" he asks without malice, taking a sip of his own.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Having finished his performance, Tap leans into the conversation when the man mentions pay.
"Hello, there! Nice to meet you!" Tap says, mimicking Krav's earlier words. He then motions for the man to continue.
