Ferro dusts himself off, trying to act cool in front of the others, like it was no big deal. Noticing the gem on the ground, snatches it up and inspects it.
The lady barely moves and speaks with only a touch of traditional butler-like snobbery, though she doesn't seem to be acting uppity. "I wouldn't know. I don't pore over the master's things, but this is his library."
Belko approaches the librarian, " Well then, Ma'am. What can you tell me of your lordship? Seems to be a bit of an absent father and husband as far as the rest of his household is concerned. Anything you would like to add?"
The papers seem to be just a collection of notes, receipts and reports from his personal and professional dealings, though nothing seems to stand out in particular.
Belko approaches the librarian, " Well then, Ma'am. What can you tell me of your lordship? Seems to be a bit of an absent father and husband as far as the rest of his household is concerned. Anything you would like to add?"
"Well I certainly have no love for his propensity for stealing artifacts from every corner of the globe. Although he does have such exquisite taste doesn't he?"She casts a glance about the room with a small sigh."I do know that lately he had been reading from -Dreams Made Flesh-, a book about the dreamkin. Obsessed he was with reading it, probably trying to impress Lady Yosa. Our copy is still in the library. You can't miss it. It's on his desk somewhere, a reclaimed wood desk harvested from the realm's last Heartsinger tree truly a work of art and the book itself is bound in the skin of a rare albino rhino. Magnificent really!"
Having stood relatively still the past few minutes, Rai has been observing every room they've come across so far. He didn't want to do anything in case it triggered another fight---and the mimic scenario only served to unsettle him more. But this.. This was more like it. He was never one for books, really, but the promise of knowledge and clues are too great to be concerned with how it's consumed. He silently walks over to Ruby, looking over her shoulder at the papers she's rifling through.

The lady looks at you all with a bit of surprise. "The lady of the house? Wife of the master? I thought everyone knew that."
It doesn't take too long to shuffle through the things on the cluttered desk to finally find the book mentioned, and it is exceptionally well crafted, like everything else in the room.

Belko nodded, " Well, it seems his efforts would have been better in attending to the lady herself rather than the book from my conversation with her."
He picked up the book and began paging through it.
"Spooky? Things have gone dark here long before this mist arrived, so no. I suspect I'll be drawn into the fog as well before too long, about everyone else already. I will rather miss the finery though."She gave a small sigh.
Perusing the library there are a few art pieces and objects that are exceptionally fine, small sculptures and such. There is one small piece that looks like a person, but not, standing about 6 inches high. They seem to have a wheel for a leg and the rest made out of metal. It is made of gold with diamonds for eyes and a ruby sitting in its open mouth. On the wooden platform it is attached to is the phrase etched in gold: "Smiley day".
Flipping through the book you see it is written by a cultural arcanologist named Dr. Ramundsen Hillshack, and catalogues the interactions and findings they had with the dreamkin.(Make a History check).
The lady sniffles a bit. "I wouldn't know. I mainly tend to the library here and a few other places around the house. I suspect there is something about it in the book the master was reading though."

Belko, reading through this book you discover that the dreamkin believe they came from another plane of existence, one of incredible wonder and magic, but somehow got lost in their dreams. However it happened, and the story varies from creature to creature, they have been unable to return to their home and now reside in the Plane of Dreams. There were some though, called Wanderers who allied themselves with dream spirits and sought to break free of the Plane of Dreams, since dream spirits have no form of their own and thus seek a place where can gain the ability to define themselves.
Then a complex and powerful ritual was conducted with the Wanderers and the Dream Spirits, each giving up a part of themselves and becoming the race now known as dreamkin. However this produced a rift between the worlds of such magnitude that the dreamkin could pass easily to the Prime Material Plane and back, and can now be seen in a dazzling display of lights in the far northern sky. The dreamkin have spread around the world in small communities, with each having a small chest containing a piece of the rift they came through, protected by magic sigils. They are all loathe to part with the chest and is only known to be taken by force.
Finally, there is mention of a powerful dream spirit named Ephialtes who remained behind in the dream realm to protect the escape route, and is revered by the dreamkin as a whole. It mentions that his rage knows no bounds, and those who threaten the dreamkin will find themselves in an abyss of nightmares and consumed.
It is at that spot as well that a small gem rolls out of the binding.
Ferro attempts another bit of conversation with the woman:
"You know, the Lady Yosa was lamenting that her husband spends too much time with his money. Perhaps if you were to direct us to where he keeps his riches, we might be able to find him there... I'm sure that finding the lord is of tantamount importance!"

Ruby goes up to the desk to inspect the papers. She ask the woman as she looks at them.
”Can you explain to me what this is?”
Belko accompanies Ruby in case the librarian is a secret Beholder.
The lady barely moves and speaks with only a touch of traditional butler-like snobbery, though she doesn't seem to be acting uppity. "I wouldn't know. I don't pore over the master's things, but this is his library."

Investigation 27
Once that’s finished he will address the bespectacled lady:
“Say, you seem rather calm. Aren’t you worried about the spooky things going on currently?”
"Spooky? Things have gone dark here long before this mist arrived, so no. I suspect I'll be drawn into the fog as well before too long, about everyone else already. I will rather miss the finery though." She gave a small sigh.

Ferro asks the composed lady,
“What can you tell us of the fog and what’s going on? We are here to help!”
The lady sniffles a bit. "I wouldn't know. I mainly tend to the library here and a few other places around the house. I suspect there is something about it in the book the master was reading though."
