At Kathra's mention of the destroyed temple, the barkeep's expression turns more melancholy. "Aye, the latest in our recent tragedies. It happened just as I was walking the last of my regulars home for the night. We was joshen on about latest avalanche when out ah no wheres, this light came crashing down from the sky and blasted it all to smithereens. It was odd and colorful, like an aurora, but not so wavy like. We ran over with a group ah other folks who come running out a their houses at the sound to see what could be done..." he trails off a bit, and after a few seconds he offers weakly, "...but there weren't nothing to be done you see."
At Gavin's questions, he looks a little more thoughtful. "Most the livestock that were attacked just seem to gone missing. The two or three travelers we found look like they were beat something fierce and bit into by something like a boar, but with the tusks the wrong way. We did send the two Farfoot boys up to look around a week or so back." He pauses, as a slight glimmer of remembrance gleams in his eyes. "In fact, one of those halflings had just come back that night as well. 'Ol Jossu helped pull his body from the wreckage of the temple along with Sister Aria's." At the mention of the priestess he makes some religious sign. "Anyway, if you folks are here about the call, you'll be wanting to talk with Elder Merrik at the manor house. He's there most days when he's not out checking on the stonefruit crop."
For Peren:
As you look around the room a few of the locals seem to take an interest in the barkeep's retelling. Most of them either look sad or just nod along about where you would expect them to as the stories go on.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mirabel listens to the description of the destruction of the temple and searches his mind for any knowledge of what kind of magic could have caused such an effect.
“Very sorry for your troubles sir.” Gavin replies. “We are the ‘Band of the Hand’, he says loud enough for the locals to hear ((sorry guys I’m running with it)). And we have come to see what we can do to provide whatever assistance we can. Something ‘unnatural’ is at work here and we aim to rid your town of it. You said one of the Flatfoot boys perished in the temple, where would we find the surviving brother that went out looking for clues?”
”What do we owe you for the fine drink and meal?” Gavin looks at Thont who has passed out from exhaustion and apparently too much ale, “Forgive my tall friend here, it’s been a long and weary road to see you. If you could let him sleep for a bit, we will come back in a short while to retrieve him when he’s had some rest” With that he gives a nod to his group. “Well we should we go and see Elder Merrik together and the have a look around what remains of the temple.”
The barkeep answers you both. "The other brother, Bobbin Farfoot, hasn't returned. As for others, the temple was empty save for the Sister and Tommin...the Farfoot who died."
For Mirabel:
You wrack your brain trying to come up with spells that might fit that aesthetic profile, and while you come up with a few that could feasibly be done to create the look of what is described, none of them would be any where near "level a building" on the power scale, no matter how much arcane energy you forced through them.
Settling up the dinner tab costs two gold each. The barkeep is fine with letting Thont rest there for a bit until you return.
With a grunt, Kathra hands the two coins to the bartender and stands. "I also suggest we investigate the temple's wreckage. There may be some further clue as to what happened." She looks at Mirabel. "You are sensitive to the arcane, are you not? Your senses will be useful there."
((When one of us rolls a 15 or above I'm going to throw a party))
((As soon as Mirabel checks in I'll just need to know if you are going one place together or splitting up between the Manor House and the Ruined Temple.))
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
((All, my apologies - I have been in the ER and am recovering from a nasty internal infection; a fluke as I am one of those weird people that are rarely sick - I am catching up reading all of this now!))
Thont finally snaps out of his trance, not caused by exhaustion or ale, but rather meditation; however he's happy to have his meditation mistaken for such as he has found it advantageous to be underestimated. He's keen to check the ruins, and he also is interested in the quarry and how this town stays afloat in terms of industry. But, if the party splits up between Manor and Ruins, he'd happily join someone so they aren't alone.
((If I may sneak out a question to the barkeep in my tardiness...))
"You have an impressive quarry - is that the primary business here? I can't imagine this is as much of a stopover town for travelers."
"Ah, of course, yes, I could probably find something out if we go to the ruins." Mirabel pays his 2 gold and stands, ready to depart for the destroyed temple.
"The old quarry hasn't seen much use in years." Says the barkeep as he scratches his chin. "The old gem vein dried up a long time ago and most of the good stone was either used to build some of the buildings here or sold off down the mountain in Arabel. We pretty much survive off the stonefruit orchard these days, that and the occasional travelers looking to cross the Storm Horn Mountains before the winter snows close the pass. Well, and your occasional adventurers and explorers looking to leave their mark higher up."

Kathra nods, satisfied with Mirabel's answer. "I shall accompany you to the ruins then. After that, we can see what the Elder has to say." Her instinct is to avoid getting too much information or speculation from the locals first, so as to inspect the scene without bias. Also, because she is less than thrilled at the prospect of talking to more people.
Thot's sudden snap back to reality startles her slightly, but she plays it totally cool and is definitely sure that nobody notices.
Perception = 7
((We're such a perceptive bunch))
((Yea I know, I have a +3 to perception and only got a 7))
((I'll give Thont another hour or two and then well move this story along a bit.))

Peren looks over at Gavin and Kathra and says we should head over and speak to Elder Merrik as soon as we can

Arcana Check: 10
“Very sorry for your troubles sir.” Gavin replies. “We are the ‘Band of the Hand’, he says loud enough for the locals to hear ((sorry guys I’m running with it)). Kathra bows her head slightly at the mention of Sister Aria's demise. "A tragedy. Was she the only one caught in the temple's destruction?"
The barkeep answers you both. "The other brother, Bobbin Farfoot, hasn't returned. As for others, the temple was empty save for the Sister and Tommin...the Farfoot who died."

I actually would like to do an insight check to see if I feel the barkeep is with holding anything
Insight 23
((One of these days you guys are going to roll some double digit numbers....))
For Gavin:
He seems sincere enough.

Peren also hands the barkeep 2 gold, and says “Thank you for the fine food and drink”
And agrees we should check out the temple ruins
