I climb down and tell everyone that I popped the hindges on the grate and can open it. I tell them that I can see a room beyond the grate, but it is dark and quiet.
“Looks like we have a choice. Go down the tunnel into the unknown or through the grate into dark scary room :)” Gavin chuckles. “My vote is through the grate, we can always come back this way later if we hit a dead end.”
I ask Peren to wait to lower the grate as the room may be trapped.
Peren is very curious about what is in the room above the grate, he agrees with Gavin we can check the ice tube later. When we decide, he offers to go up first and try to spot any traps, before the rest of the party climbs up.
((Sounds like a good plan. Since Peren has already done the hard work of placing the climbing kit's ropes and pitons through the tube, the rest of you do not need to make a roll to climb up. Importantly, however, I do need to know if the last person up is undoing everything and repacking the kit or if you are leaving everything in place in case you need to quickly come back this way. On the one hand, packing up the kit means that you have an intact kit. On the other hand, leaving it there means that your possible future quick descent down the tube will be expeditious and safe as opposed to just a 30 foot fall onto some hot metal slag. Anyway, we'll sort that out after Mirabel gets a chance to look around the cavern.))
My vote is for the last person to pack up the kit. we may find another way out and will not want to back track. we can always just tie a rope to the grate and repel down if needed
would like to know what everyone else thinks, I don’t want to pay for the kit when we get back to town
((I will be AFK for a while, try to get back on in a few hours))
"Fear not! I already put a deposit down on the climbing kit. If we lose it, I suppose I shall not get my deposit back, but that is a small price to pay for a quick exit." Kathra says. "Once our sorcerer is finished poking about here, I agree that we should go up."
((Bedtime for me, so assume Kathra just follows y'all around until I wake up and see what's what in the morning))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((FYI team, I have a cantrip I can use at will that will add 1d4 to any ability check. Only lasts 1 minute. So in the future just say I have a Gavin cast Guidance on me and then add that to your roll for important ones)j
if I am allowed, I will try and cast guidance on Maribel while she is doing her Arcana check. 3. ((Feel free to over rule doing this retroactively Meta))
((I'm cool with it so long as the person saying they have guidance clearly states what sort of divine guidance Gavin is giving them.))
For Mirabel:
While pouring over the magically radiating slag, you catch a glimpse of a familiar silver glitter from behind a nearby rock. There you find a strange tusk, about a foot long and engraved with circular silver patterns and constellations of Arcane importance. Some are familiar to you, like the kind of thing you'd see in any book on the magical theories of the Astral Sea, but others are complex and the stars that make up the constellations are foreign to you.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
((I assume the rest of you follow and whoever is at the end retrieves the Climbers Kit parts.))
Peren shimmies up the tube rather expertly, silently sliding the metal grate to the floor and climbs into the dark room beyond. As the rest of the group and the light sources work their way up to tube and into the room, you can see that you have emerged into some sort of forge. The oval shaped room is made of stone; the eastern wall looks to be the same kind of stone as the bedrock of the mountain, but the rest of the room is made of a strange white stone that occasionally sparkles in the light with tiny quartz crystals as fine as grains of sand. On the floor by the tube is an empty crucible turned over on its side. Along the eastern wall there looks to be some anvils, various tools, and some old broken clay molds. The western wall has two parallel rounded passageways spaced about fifteen feet apart leading further west. Notably, however, both passageways are blocked by clear ice-like humanoid shapes armed with mauls shaped from the same ice as their bodies. Both of the silent sentinels do not appear to react as you enter the room from the tube.

Kathra investigates the crucible to see if she can confirm her suspicion that the strange discs were created here. She tries not to touch anything, keeping an eye on the two sentinels standing by the door.

((How many climbing kits did we get?))
((Two....that you are technically renting.))

I vote pack it up. If it’s truly life or death 30’ is survivable (I hope)

Yeah pack up - the 30' drop is not THAT horrible in an emergency.
Mirabel takes one last look at the weird magical ore. "This feels important, but I'll be damned if I know how."
Arcana: 22
With that, Mirabel joins the group with whatever it is that we decided to do.

Kathra executes a sort of half-serious bow to Peren and gestures at the rope leading up the tunnel. "After you."
"Shiny!" Mirabel picks up the tusk and waves it around excitedly. "I told you all we were dealing with were-walruses from the Astral Sea!"
He absentmindedly scratches his head with the tusk. "No idea what they're doing out here, though."
Peren takes his que from Kathra and quickly climbs up to the grate, then slowly moves the grate out of the way and slowly climbs into the room
Stealth = 21

Investigation: 17
Peren will go over to the eastern wall and investigate the tools and broken clay molds
investigation = 13
For Kathra:
You are 100% certain of several things after investigating the crucible.
