(How dead is the orc?)

(Where Ula is only mostly dead, the orc is all dead)

Jan blasts at the spider closest to Ethel and Ula.

Attack: 26 Damage: 6

Ula sputters awake, coughing on the red liquid Ethel managed to get into her mouth. Seeing the situation she's in and the giant spider looming over her, she strains against the webbing. It looks like she'll break free but her own strength runs out before the web does, and she's still trapped.

Jan's blast of energy catches the spider near Ula and Ethel squarely. The creature is hurt but still looks to have lots of energy.

Haguur swipes again at the other spider, ripping a deep cut into its thorax. The other two orcs charge in from outside and join the third, punching and kicking at the same spider Haguur is fighting. Two blows make it through, causing yellowish liquid to spurt from its abdomen. This spider looks to be barely standing.

Hammerdasher, realizing the bugbear is now dead and that the swarm of spiders is coming his way starts stomping as quickly as he can, catching several of them under foot. The size of the swarm has decreased, but its still large enough to be a concern.

Avaria make her way quickly back through the underwater tunnel, noting the outcroppings and crevices as she does so she'll be able to help guide anyone else through if necessary. It's a long swim back.

Avaria shakes herself off when she gets out of the pool and finds herself alone in the hobgoblin section.

She walks over to the orc area and notices it is empty as well.  Unsure where her friends went, she pauses at the tunnel and listens..

Perception  9

(Technically Avaria getting back to the orc cave and listening should be about 10 rounds into the future - but let’s say she sensed something was wrong and swam really really fast and is back on the same time line as the others).

Avaria hears the sounds of shouting, cursing, blasts of energy, thuds and thumps coming from the cavern leading off to the east, where she knows the spider cave is.

She notices a few faces looking in from the cavern to the north, notably a concerned Xanthe.

Marrin calls to the nearly dead spider,

"Just give up,  you've been a failure all your life."

vicious mockery 4 (dc 14 wisdom save)

Just as the large spider recoils from the orc blows, Marrin's jest appears to remove the creature's last remaining will to live. It collapses to the ground, leaving just the one giant spider that still has it's webbing around Ula, facing off against Ula and Ethel.

Unfortunately, Ethel's leap into the fray to save Ula's life has left her vulnerable to the bite of the spider. She almost slips away, but the spider still sinks its fangs into the wizard's shoulder.

(6HP Damage, plus DC11 poison save; 6HP and paralyzed, 3HP on success and not paralyzed).

The swarm races up Hammerdasher's legs, not taking kindly to the dwarf's attempt to crush them all. A dozen tiny bites cause Hammerdasher to scream out in pain.

Out in the other cave, Avaria hears the fighting continue, with a shout of pain added into the mix.

Party's up.

Jan sends a crackling blast at the big spider.

Attack: 26 Damage: 13

Belatedly realizing what is going on, Avaria rushes into the fray of the spider cave.

"What?  you guys came in here without me?" Pouting before she sees the danger Ethel and Ula are in, she gets control of herself and goes to attack the first enemy she sees, the giant spider remaining.

Attack: 16 Damage: 5

The giant spider reels backwards at the intense blast of energy from Jan, it has to flee or die, but before it has a chance to even think about climbing away, Avaria bursts into the cavern and caves its abdomen in with a well placed blow. The creature collapses to the ground dead.

Will wait on Ethel's save before Ula and the rest go. Only the swarm of spiders remains, biting at Hammerdasher's legs.

 CON 4

Save or not, the damage is more than Ethel can endure.  A curse on her lips, she collapses.

Marrin looks over to Ethel and says,

"Come on Ethel, you've got more in you than that. Stand!"

Healing word: 5

She then turns her attention to the swarm and suggests,

"Mommy's dead, time to join her."

Vicious mockery 3 (dc 14 wisdom save)

Several of the spiders swarming over Hammerdasher's legs stiffen and fall off at Marrin's words. Hammerdasher swats at the spiders in vain, managing really just to move them around his legs.

"These little buggers hurt," the dwarf says very loudly.

Haguur nudges both giant spiders with his knife, making sure they're dead and then looks up into the webs above to see if any more can be seen.

The three orcs begin laughing as they see Hammerdasher dancing about with the spiders biting at him.

Ula struggles with the webbing but is still not able to break free.

The spiders continue to bite at Hammerdasher, but his squirming and hopping about prevent any of them from causing any serious damage.

While Ethel has benefited from Marrin's magic, she remains paralyzed.

Party's up.

Feeling satisfied that the giant spider is dead, Avaria looks around a bit.  Now realizing that Ethel was just revived from being unconscious, she sees how serious this fight is.  

Ula is trapped, but not in any real danger at the moment, but Hammerdasher is getting bit.. bad.

She runs to his side and attempts to smash some of them.

Attack: 16 Damage: 5

Avaria squashes quite a few spiders. She didn't see the original size of the swarm, but Marrin, Jan, and Ethel (if she could turn her head) would notice there are about a third of the initial spiders left.
