Sloan takes you to the Depot where Quartermaster Kadakithes outfits you with anything you might be lacking, including two more healing potions. When asked about the experimental weapons, Kadakithes shrugs his shoulders and says, "I haven't seen anything new come through lately, but we do have some old artifacts borrowed from the Sydney and the Suffolk lying around in the back. I can look through those and see what I can find." He leaves and returns a short while later with a large bundle of weapons and equipment including two Beretta M9 pistols, a couple of lightweight kevlar vests, and an old medical kit. Also, he has some night vision goggles, holsters for the sidearms, duct tape, and a flashlight.
Looking through the items, Sargent Sloan picks out a small, palm-sized object. "What's this?" he asks Kadakithes.
"That's a signal beacon," Kadakithes explains. "It sends out a signal that can be received from a thousand klicks away. Really cool, but kind of useless without a receiver."
Orion picks up the kevlar vest, and holding it upside down, says, "What is this? It doesn't seem very warm." He then picks up the pistol, holding the barrel and smacks the grip into his palm. "That's gotta hurt." He puts the roll of duct tape on his wrist like a bracelet, and tries to admire it.
"That is what we call a kevlar vest," Kadakithes explains. "Essentially, it gives you the same protection as a breastplate but weighs a lot less. Good for folks who need strong protection in light armor. The ancient law enforcers from Earth swore by them. You wear it like a regular vest," he says donning it. "And that could be used as a bludgeoning weapon," he continues taking the pistol from Orion, "but if you put one of these cartridges into it like so ...." He inserts a small metal box into the handle of the weapon and pulls the trigger. The Beretta clicks, but nothing happens. "Of course, it would help if we had bullets. Those are like little, explosive metal crossbow bolts. They go in here," he says, popping the metal box out of the handle and showing the spring-loaded top opening to Orion. "I could probably get you some if you want to try using that thing." He places the pistol back on the counter. "I'm not sure what that is for," Kadakithes says, admiring Orion's bracelet, "but they say the ancient tinkerers often had it with them. I guess it brings good luck or something."
Primrose goes to the table (I assume) where the items are displayed. She looks at the Pistols. "Ooh. Wierd crossbows?”, she says, seeing the grips and aiming as if it were a crossbow (at the far wall, not anyone).Then she hears Kadakithes explaination. “Yes, please.Crossbows are useless without bolts.These things seem useless without these “bullets”.How would we know if they could be useful without them?”
Remembering how she tried the cloth armor (several adventures ago) and it gave her problems, she picks up a vest and hefts it, estimating if its weight would be a hindrance, then puts it on to see if it seems like it would disadvantage her, while she checks the rest.
She checks the duct tape. “Tinkers? You mean Artificers? I’ve never met an artificer yet who’d trust luck over a gadget.” She holds up a roll and rolls it over in her hands. She looks at it so hard she squints at it in front of her nose. (OOC: Perception 17 rolled on character sheet to notice the sticky edge of the roll, and the seam of the tape strip on the outer surface. Rises to 22 if this counts as investigation instead of perception) “Orion, does the edge of yours seem kind of sticky?” She holds it closer and squints harder, scratching the inside and outside lightly with a fingernail. “And is there an edge or seam on the outside of yours?” She also slides it up like a bracelet.
While waiting for an answer, she checks if the medical kit is better than her own. Anything wierd inside it (like a strange box that says “defibrillator” or needles with rubber corked tubes (phlebotomy supplies)? Does it just replace what’s in her own kit?
(Probably all she could check at this point of the conversation.)
Yes, Prim recognizes the tape for what it is. The vest is light enough to not cause much of a hindrance. You do not see anything like a defibrillator, but a few needles and corked tubes are in the kit. You recognize a phlebotomy kit and three other vials. One says "antitoxin" on it, and another has "antivenom" written on it. The third vial has no writing on it but looks similar to the healing potions, only darker in color. (Consider it a Potion of Greater Healing.)
"Oh, by the way," Sargent Sloan interrupts as you examine the old Earth artifacts, "we found something near one of the caves which lead into the Frelian Underdark. It's behind the stables." With that, he leads you to an open area in which sits a large vessel looking like a cross between an insect and a sailing ship. "It took us a while to get it here, but when one of our researchers sat at the helm, it began to float briefly. We think it may be useful for your travels. Apparently, it requires the same sort of attunement as certain magic items here in Niersala."
As she checks the tape, she notices some give as she fingernails the edge, which prys up. "Riip", some pulls up and she checks it without ripping it off the roll. Touches the sticky part and notices its stickier than normal tape. "Mmm, I could use this." Flips an edge over to stick to itself for easy access, then pockets two rolls.
She investigates the phlebotomy kit and vials like she did the tape (up to her nose and squinting. Does she need perception to see something like "Expired hundreds of years ago"?)
She picks up a pair of goggles as she follows the Sargant outside. She manages to look through them before they see the ship.
Orion says, "I'd like to try that pistol. Do you have any of the bolts for it?" He compares duct tape with Prim and notices the possibilities of this stuff. He also tries on a vest, and decides he likes it.
[OOC what's the armor Stat for the vest? Do I need proficiency in firearms to use the pistol?]
Taxidea pokes through the items dismissively, except for the healing potions. “These look like the only things that might come in handy to me.”

(Prim can't use the armor or gun. Except as a backup emergency weapon and take the non prof penalty. When she sees the bullets she may have questions. I didn't see the armor in nomebrew items.
What happened when she looked through the goggles? Is the ship a Wasp or Damselfly? (both are pictured afaik))
Prim circles the ship looking for a gangplank or other way to board. "It's a flying ship then?", she asks. "How does it work?" She wanders through the ship picking up any paper that looks like instructions. "What's this?" she asks about anything that isn't obvious (eg galley=obvious, but she'd be curious if there were something wierd like a microwave). Eventually she'll reach the spelljamming helm (What's this? OOhhh! IDENTIFY!")
Taxidea puts the Potion of Greater Healing into his pack. "No Kev-lar for me," he says, slapping his chest. "Got thick skin and all the firepower I need right here."

The spelljammer ship looks similar to these.
You need proficiency in Martial Ranged weapons (such as a hand crossbow) to use the pistol.
The kevlar vest is considered light armor and gives the wearer AC 14+Dex, the same as a Breastplate.

I added Kevlar Vest to my homebrew items.
The ship is unique. It is more like the wasp than the damselfly. It is dark in color, almost black, with gossamer "wings" (sails).
[OOC what are the stats for the Beretta? (Range, damage, etc.]
Orion walks around the ship, kicks the tires, and says, "This looks really nice."
The Beretta M9 pistol does 1d8 piercing damage and has a range of 150/300. A magazine holds up to 20 bullets.
Orion says to Sgt. Sloan, "Could you find some bullets for this pistol? You mentioned that you might be able to do that."
