Kashika was the last to arrive at the 'scene' of the crime. She had said her piece, and at that point, it was up to everyone else to finish their own conversations, as she considered her own theory, as well as listening into the others conversation, though nothing in particular stood out to her - even what the 'librarian' was saying was mostly conjecture. Ultimately, her plans were still on hold, They had a heading, and she had contributed atleast a little.
As she approached the group, while they spoke with Whicket, aside from hearing Whickets general screaming.. she hadn't been paying much attention, nly really focusing in when he doubled down on having fixed his lute. She easily made her way through the forest of legs around her and said W-what exactly isn't our business? she said a bit flatly but with curiosity just in case he had found some secret thing while he was away.
She didn't seem all that bothered but she also couldn't risk some detail slipping past her that may help her in the future.
Devona looked down at the kobold and frowned slightly, holding out her hand and then getting a bit of a stern look, like a mother waiting for their child to apologize. "I didn't say I would keep it from you, but we aren't going to keep things from each other now. There is too much going on right now for games like this. You know me, Whicket. Now what do you have there? If it is something that could help us and I find out you kept it from us, I will not be happy."
Whicket's eyes brighten slightly when Kashika pushes her way to the front, but then he blushes and looks embarrassed again. He looks back at Devona, "Mmmmmmm, It's not for you." Then he looks back at Kashika and walks up to her it takes him a few moments to muster up the courage to speak. He holds the object out in front of him, letting the fabric unfurl into a small cloak. It had clearly once been part of a larger item, but someone had cut it down to Kobold size. "Apology gift? ....sorry for being rude?" He tries not to look at any of the others as he does this, and finding it hard to look at Kashika his gaze continuously shifts from her face to his hands as he waits for a reaction.
Zalten tries his best to stifle a laugh at Wicket's little apology gift. "This kobold is certainly interesting" he thinks to himself "First stumbling over in the middle of the street, then dragging this Elandrin to the castle, then dissapearing the moment we got here, and now this?". Just thinking on how many antics Wicket has fit into such little time, he can't help but laugh a bit, and his attempts not to chuckle at the situation are mostly futile and he lets out a muffled but audible chuckle
However, his mind is quickly drawn back to the librarian's words about this Merge she was disussing. If this place was layered over another realm, the two of them crushed together, that would certainly qualify as the realm being broken and might be what his god has been asking him to repair. And if part of the realm was really eaten by the Abyss... he shudders at the though. He's had to fight off a minor demon or two, though they were always simple creatures. For a realm to have been partially consumed by the Abyss would suggest the involvement of far, far more powerful demon... he shudders at the though. And what of this First Guardian that was mentioned? Perhaps this entity has something to do with where the crown has gone, or why it was made in the first place? Whatever it is, he feels as if he's getting closer to understanding what exactly his directive is. At least he was able to recieve it all all: it's a minor miracle his god has been able to comminicate even a highly broken message to this place.
The complexities and option begin to boggle his mind a bit, so he tucks it away for the time beinguntil he can collect more information, and goes back to eagerly waiting for Kashika's reaction
Kashika's eye twitched. Not out of anger, or frustration, but some form of consternation. Whicket was clearly not the most confident or intelligent person she'd ever met, and in many ways he was childlike in his approaches to everything, as well as clearly not used to interactions with most other people. It annoyed her a little but ... not really? More like she simply didn't know how to process his behavior. He was so innocent, that in some ways it set her on alert - afterall, she'd played 'innocent' before though never to this level.. she'd had to to survive, to eat.
Her expression was dancing on her face for the -in reality- breif moments that could barely be more than 5 seconds. She sighed and chopped his head with her hand, in a way not intended to cause harm, in the same vein as one might flick a friends forehead. That was just b-banter. I was teasing you a bit. I wasn't s-serious. Afterall, it w-was me holding you in the a-air. she said trying to be clear, but in a much softer way than she had been with a certain paladin. (Not that she hated the paladin, but he had rubbed her the wrong way at first meeting)
Regardless, she took the cloak, as it had been offered nonetheless, and she felt if she refused it, it might break the poor lads heart. And she thought the gesture was cute. She offered the naieve kobold an actual smile as she did, saying But I accept regardless. My current s-stuff has... seen better days... she admits, with a slight frown before looking to Whicket again, and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
Regardless, she puts on the cloak (whether just a cape, or a full torso affair) giving it an approving nod, to make sure that Whicket understood that she at minimum approved, if not liked it.
With that though, she would look up to the others, her face normal, and unabashed (As she had had far more experiences, and such things wouldn't make her flush) saying E-either way, we really should get back on this h-hunt. The longer we wait, the farther away it gets. And we all w-want to go home, w-wherever that may be.
Devona watches them with a bit of a cheerful, playful grin suddenly as begins to realize what Whicket was up to. "Ohh..." She gave a small giggle and then turned back to the rest of the group with a small sigh. "Right! Well if that's all settled then, let's get going!" Devona will head out of the library, saying one more cheerful goodbye to the librarian and striding off with a mite of excitement.
Whicket's expression changes from embarrassed to slightly hurt to confused before realization finally dawns on him. His eyes widen and he opens his mouth, "Ooooohh," He starts but is cut off when Kashika accepts his gift and to his surprise, gives him a kiss. This makes his wide eyes open even wider for a second before he snaps his mouth shut and a giddy smile crosses his now red face. Eyes closed, he clasps his hands behind his back and rocks on his heals for a few seconds before registering her last sentence. At this, he stops rocking, clenches his fists then points at the air, "Yes! Onward! Onward to....Uh where are we going?"He opens his eyes only to see the party has already started leaving. Grabbing his hat, he hurry's after you all trying to catch up to Devona and Kashika.
(The cloak, has a hood and would cover her whole body and hang just over her ankles.)
Kashika:
Congratulations, you now have a Cloak of Protection.
Bella waves goodby as you all step out of the library and onto the main road. As you walk down the busy street, children smile and wave, mostly to Devona, and the adults watch you and exchange confused looks with each other. It doesn't take long for you to find yourself back at the city gate. The current warder, a large brown Minotaur opens the gate for you, reveling the barren twilit desert and the single road leading to Dusk. "Not sure why yer leavin' but I won't question it. Safe travels." The Minotaur says as you pass through the gates.
Whicket makes sure to stay between at least one of you and the guard as you make your way through the gates. Once through he says, "I thought we were looking for the crown? Does Cyra have it already? Why did we come back out here?"He looks back at the city then looks around nervously.
After a short while, the sand begins to shift with another rumbling tremor like the one you felt before entering Dawn. However, it only lasts a few seconds before the sands still and the earth returns to silence. No sandstorms plague your journey...not yet at least. After what seems like ages of walking through the half-light of the desert waste, the dark shape of the Bridge of Shadows appears before you. You now stand on the Dawn side of the River of Darkness.
Here is a description of the Bridge of Shadow and the River of Darkness:
As you approach the bridge, those of you who are unfamiliar with the area find it strange that you hear no water. You pause at the base of the bridge. Living up to it's name, it appears to be made completely from shadow. It's form is transparent, allowing you to see the dark river beneath. Looking at the river itself, it looks strikingly like a large crack in the land. Like the world itself at some point started breaking apart. It looks as if the night sky itself has been pored into it. Dark liquid silently flows through the fissure while tiny white flecks sparkle beneath it, like stars that were cast from the black black sky above you. Some of these specks flow with the river, others are stationary. You see the sand itself stops abruptly at what could be called the bank. Odd, as sand shouldn't create such a sharp cut in the land. It's almost as if an invisible force is all that's keeping the loose grains from being washed into the river.
Kashika was honestly surprised that Whicket was going to come with them. She'd had a whole speech planned for the farewell, but it seemed it wasn't necessary. Oh well! Regardless, as they leave the city, Kashika briefly explains to Whicket they believe they'll find the crown, or some clue about it out here, and that while he was getting this cloak for her, that's what the party had discovered and discussed.
(Sorry that's all I can manage tonight. Massive migraine, so I can't focus much)
Before you leave Dawn, Mordred and Jack stop the party just before you reach the gates. Mordred explains that he and Jack are going to remain in Dawn and do some more investigation. He believes that you are on the right trail, but he just wants to be sure. On top of that, he feels obligated to find Tamara. Due to the ease at which you entered the castle, he feels as though her sacrifice was for nothing. Jack feels the same way, they will remain in Dawn and try to break Tamara out of prison. Once done, they will make their way to the Temple, if all goes well at least.
(This way if Jack's player returns she can regroup with you later.)
When Kashika explains what the group is doing, Whicket nods slowly. He wasn't aware that the crown had been stolen from Zoran in the first place, so he's still not sure he understands exactly what is going on. However, he doesn't ask any more questions as he marches alongside Kashika. If these people think the crown is somewhere out here, then he'll trust them.
(Let me know if you wish to do anything in particular at the River of Darkness, otherwise you can simply continue upstream.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kashika explains the generalities of the situation. Not going into much overall detail, simply explaining that neither dragon had the crown. Obviously leaving out her own plans. As they each the river, Kashika remembers the stars, and, iinitially she plans to tell whicket, but then...Kashika walks over to the 'river' and attempts to scoop up atleast a single star. If sucessful, she would hand it to Whicket as a gift. C-consider it a good luck charm. And always keep it c-close. Especially out here. She doesn't tell him why, and lets him come to his own conclusions, as it would likely lead to a more interesting result anyway.
(I don't remember the specific skill it was but i think SURV? Either way, Surv Check: 4)
Then, she would go back to the river itself, her new cloak still being worn and she'd put her hand into the 'water' to feel where it was 'flowing' and then point in the opposite direction of that. The m-mouth is where a river COMES from, r-right? if so... it should be t-that way.
(It was just a strait d20, but you got the same amount either way. :) )
Kashika reaches into the dark liquid and pulls out three stars (I'll let you decide if she give all or just one to Whicket.) She drops her gift into his cupped hand and he stares at it, eyes sparkling. Then he closes his hand around it and smiles at her blushing slightly. "I will!" He says, and he tucks the star under one the arm wraps that keep his tight sleeves closed. (If she gave him all of them, he will put one in each sleeve and the last in his small pouch.) To his surprise, a faint glow from each star is visible through the thin fabric.
Putting her hand back into the water, Kashika determines that the River is flowing from North to South, which means you will need to travel Northward to reach the Temple.
(If any of you do take a drink let me know! Before we proceed, I need to know whether or not you are going to cross the river before you make your way upstream.)
Nygil eyes the bridge, and then the water, and then his companions, wondering what everyone wants to do. He has no intention of drinking the water again, not after what happened last time. "So! Shall we cross, or shall we stay on this side? Does it matter? Who knows! Either way, let's get a move on shall we?" He looks around, hoping for some sort of response, "This time, if we meet more of those worms, I won't be blind. I won't be helpless. I will prove my strength." He punches his palm, and grins widely, "Even if one of the big ones shows up. I'll pound it back into the earth from whence it came."
Realizing that he's been rambling, he gives a loud chuckle as if to distract from what he'd been saying and then points upstream, "Well? What do you all want to do?"
Devona looks at the others for a moment, "What happened last time? I've never bothered to try and drink from here. But I suggest we stay on this side of the river unless we are forced to cross over."
