"What happened last time? I've never bothered to try and drink from here. But I suggest we stay on this side of the river unless we are forced to cross over."
"The water appears to give darkvision when drank,"answered Jumble, sounding a little disappointed. "I'd hoped someone would do so again to verify the earlier test, but... ah, well. But yes, I'm happy with staying on this side of the river for now. Shall we head on north, then?"
Starting on your journey northward, you start to understand why so many get lost if they travel off the path. If not for the river, there would be little to no landmarks, not to mention you cannot make out the light of either Dusk or Dawn. You continue to travel upstream. Suddenly you feel the sand begin to tremble again. This time it continues for several minutes. Looking towards the river, you see parts of the land give way, and fall into the dark liquid, sand streams down into it for a short time before that odd, invisible barrier seems to reform. During the quake a loud vibrating roar sounds from the other side of the river. Those of you with darkvision can make out dark shape rising from the sand the falling and burrowing back down into it.
Once the quake finally ceases, you continue on your way. Some of you find it odd that, other than the writhing sand, your journey has been pretty quiet. After what seems like ages of walking in the dreary half-light of the Twilight. The light starts to dim even farther. Looking northward, it's as if all the darkness in the sky is being pulled into a single point in the horizon. Eventually, you walk close enough to make out the shadowed outline of a temple directly at that dark point.
The temple sits directly on top of the River's mouth. Stone steps form a bridge over the river and up to the decaying doors.
Devona walked in quiet contemplation along the riverside, making a small note of the strange shape on the other side. She otherwise kept to herself, her eyes straining through the unremarkable landscape until the form of the temple took shape. "Well I suppose that would be the temple then. Should we go up and knock or just go in?" She half giggled.
Kashika isn't fond of the way the world looks. In the same way that someone walking over an invisible walkway wouldn't feel safe that their next step wasn't going to be their last, but so long as they found purchase on the ground, her feet would keep moving. She had waited too long for this. She breifly tells everyone T-theres no where to go but forward, or back. So lets not h-hesitate. If there is s-somehting dangerous, we'll just have to deal with it there as we f-find it. she said in response to Devona's question.
And with that, she proceeded with courage. Either she would find her destiny. Or her death. Both would bring release, and she had atleast one sure-ally, and atleast a faithful follower, if not more in Whicket. If things went well.... she shook her head. Things WILL go well. in her mind, if her every moment of her life outside of small respites had been arduous, painful, and otherwise negative... a never ending struggle, then she had to have some stock of Karma built up just for this moment to go right.
"Right behind you, Kashika," said Jumble. He'd considered using a bit of magic to prepare, but decided it was better to hold his cards in reserve, as it were. The bard stepped after the others toward the temple entrance.
Making your way through the broken doors, you enter a large square room. The room is mostly empty, though over the years, sand has been blown inside causing it to build up on the floor. The air seems thick in here, and dust particles dance through the empty space.
On the far wall, directly across from you, is a large tattered tapestry of three dragons. The one in the center is far larger than the other two, it's golden wings outstretched to either side, one of the smaller ones you recognize as Cyra, her deep red-black scales fading to dark gold on her underbelly. The other, is mostly golden yellow with some bright red down his back. You would guess this one is Zoran.
In the center of the room, are the weathered remains of what was likely a shrine.
"Interesting place...must be very old indeed. I wonder what it was all for...ooh look, this tapestry is off a bit! Seems there is something behind here!"
Looking behind the tapestry, Devona finds that the opening leads to a small rectangular room. Dust floats around in this room as well. Looking down, Devona is immediately sees the skeleton of a dragonborn lying on the floor. Whoever it was, looks like they were injured and trying to crawl towards the exit. The figure wears rusted platemail, the contents of the coin purse had been spilled onto the floor since the leather had started to deteriorate. There is a glint of gold on the skeleton's outstretched hand. Looking towards the back of the room, there is an open doorway leading off to the right.
Following Devona who'd passed her, Kashika looks over the new scene with vague interest. Whoever that dragonborn had been, they had to fight something - whether tangible or otherwise - and ultimately failed. But was it an enemy? or a trapped room? She was no rogue, despite her apparent agility so she had little experience with such things, and had no way to determine...
Kashika had no interest in the platemail, though she wasn't above taking something from the dead... they no longer needed it and it might benefit them. So instead, she looks over the thing in its hand, the glint of gold. But wary as she was in Zorans treasure room, she summoned a mage hand to 'grab it' so she would be less likely to be at personal risk herself. She considered takign the gold as well, but... if things panned out... Regardless... if nothing happened as a result of her mage hands 'theft' after inspectign whatever the gold thing was.... she would proceed down the hall of the other route.... much as she had entered zorans treasure room.. a small army of mage hands pressing the floor tiles in front of her to trigger somehtign she may otherwise have stepped on.
"Interesting place...must be very old indeed. I wonder what it was all for...ooh look, this tapestry is off a bit! Seems there is something behind here!"
Jumble had been scanning the room, writing notes of everything he saw when Devona's find caught him off guard. Carefully putting his papers away, he walked behind her and Kashika as they looked behind the tapestry... and gave an involuntary gulp when he saw the dragonborn skeleton. It was then he noticed his companion using magic to try to retrieve the golden item that was in the skeleton's hand.
"Ummm...."
It seemed like an obvious trap to the bard, but then again, if the item was the key to survival (and the dragonborn had only been a step short in using it,) then it would be worth retrieving. "Stop worrying so much," he chided himself as he peered further into the room.
"Ichabod," he whispered (why was he whispering?!) to his familiar, "go through that opening and take a look around." The command given, the fey owl took off from Jumble's shoulder and flew through the doorway at the back of the room, with his master viewing the scene through his eyes the entire time.
(( Ichabod will fly as far as it can, out to 100 feet, with Jumble seeing through his eyes so he can tell what's ahead. Once at the limit of his range, he'll fly back--if he can. ))

Nygil looks curiously around before following everyone through the trap door. It does occur to him that this could be a trap, but...eh. Who cares. When they reach the skeleton, he walks up to it and frowns, "This is interesting." He nudges the skeleton with his foot, "Poor soul. We'll avenge you."
If nothing happens due to his...treatment of the skeleton, he follows closely after Kashika.
Kashika's mage hand grabs hold of the gold on the skeletal hand. At this point, she can tell that the glint is coming from a ring, which...does not come off as smoothly as the Kobold had wanted. Rather than simply pulling off the ring, Kashika pulls off the whole finger. Upon closer inspection, she can see the ring is in the shape of a golden humming bird, however it is also to large for her own hand.
As Kashika and Nygil inspect the body, Jumble sends his familiar to scout out the area. Ichabod obediently flies through the doorway on the right into a larger room. He sees several more skeletons scattered in a circle around what looks like a coffin in the center of the room. In each corner of this room, stands a large suit of armor. Continuing down another corridor, Ichabod enters yet another large room. This room seems oddly empty aside from the piles of sand and dust. The familiar then flies down yet another corridor, which splits off two ways. Unfortunately, this is as far as he can fly and he turns around to return to his master.
The Dragonborn skeleton has no reaction when the elf nudges it. So, Nygil continues farther just behind Kashika. When the two look through the short passage into the next room, Nygil immediately sees the coffin in the center of the room, as well as what looks like three Minotaur skeletons surrounding it. He also notices the four suits of armor stationed in each corner of the room. Squinting, he thinks he can see something written on the coffin, but he can't make it out from where he's standing.
As Ichabod flew back, Jumble relayed to the others everything he had seen. "He couldn't go any farther than the corridor split though," he concluded as he finally stepped into the room behind the others.
(( @DM: Were there any high places for Ichabod to perch in either the room with piles of sand, or in the corridor beyond that? ))
"Looks like there's something written on that coffin," Nygil says. "I...am not sure if its a good idea to just run into this room. Something clearly murdered all these people, so I'm willing to bet theres some big trap in here." He glances around, "Eh, I'll be the bait if no one else wants to." He eyes the suits of armor, "To bad Mordred left. He might've been able to get a good suit of armor out of this venture." He lets out a huff, then prepares to step forward...
In the room with the sand, he here is a sort of brick railing along the top of the wall to the right of the corridor. There's just enough space between it and the ceiling for an owl to perch. You can have him roll perception to see if he notices anything else about that room.
Devona holds up her hand after watching the others for a minute, having finally stepped through into the room proper and followed Nygil over. "Hold on a moment." She makes a "pstpstpst" noise with her mouth and a moment later there is a slight flash as a housecat, wreathed in flames appears a short ways away (enough so we don't make dex saves). "Hello again, Tilda! Want to play?" Devona points to the room with the skeletons and armor, "Go see if you can knock some things around for us, won't you?" Devona will send the spirit into the room to attempt to bat and knock the skeletons and armor, and possibly walk around to set off traps.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jumble watched with interest as Tilda appears and then heads forward. He then turned to Ichabod again, "Go on and perch on the ledge I saw in the room with those weird sand piles. I have a bad feeling about that one."
As his familiar flew off, he turned back to watch if anything happened as a result of Tilda's activity.
(( Ichabod's Perception Check once in the room: 8 ))
The fiery housecat runs into the room, first targeting the closest suits of armor. Both clatter to the ground with a loud crash that echos through the corridors. However, when she moves deeper into the room to play with the bones scattered around the coffin, the armor starts to levitate and put itself back together. Tilda barely gets the chance to bat a bone across the room before the skeletons begin to assemble themselves as well.
Ichabod managed to fly through this room without attracting any attention, taking all of this in with his keen eyes. He manages to see the faded Celestial writing on the top of the coffin before entering the corridor to the next room. On his way to perch on the ledge, he notices some inconsistencies in the stone of this wall.
Back in the coffin room, Four suits of armor and three Minotaur skeletons start closing in on a hissing Tilda. They seem oblivious to the adventurers standing in the doorway.
