And like every being in the few stories i've heard, you tell us 'we have no clue what we are doing, and that whatever we do will benefit you anyway' but in all of those stories, people like you fail in the end. Trying to mislead us or make us doubt ourselves by casting doubt on whether we 'grabbed the right one' then the answer is to grab it all. So Yes, I'll take the crown. she says, walking forward, her tiny palm outstretched.
The voice in the portal does not respond to Kashika's words this time, though there is a glint of....respect? In his eyes.
Assuming Kashika lowers Shurkan down to the ground, his smug grin starts to fade and completely vanishes as he begrudgingly allows the small Kobold to take the crown. To those watching, you can see his draconic eyes flick from Kashika, to the portal, to the rest of the group, then back to Kashika. The clawed fingers of his left hand flex at his side, causing the patchy scales on them to glitter.
(All of you accept Kashika can roll insight on Shurkan if you wish.)
As soon as the crown leaves the minotaurs hand, it starts to shrink. Apparently, it can shift it's size to fit whoever holds it, whether or not they choose to put it on.
Whicket continues to shift his weight from foot to foot nervously as he watches all of this.
Kashika:
As soon as you touch the crown, you can feel the immense power running through it.
If you put the crown on:
As soon as you place the crown on your head and your hands leave the metal, a vision flashes before your eyes. You are standing in darkness, but a radiant ball of light hovers an arms-length before you, pulsing and fluctuating with power. It calls to you. It can be yours, all you have to do is take it...however you know that this amount of power would be to much for your small body to handle. If you tried to wield all of it, it would destroy you. But who said you have to wield it all? Can you not just take a piece of it? Surely even a fragment of this power would give you the strength to rival even Cyra....
"If you wish this to go easily, release my disciple, claim the crown and I will send your companions on their marry way."
It seemed too easy... too good to be true. Just claim the crown, and we'd all go on our way? The bard was quite skeptical. Even as the headpiece shrank in Kashika's hand, Jumble held his breath, waiting for the sudden roar of laughter, the appearance of more minions--something to indicate betrayal and treachery.
Kashika had in fact lowered the minotaur to the ground, yet she did not relinquish her power over the spell. As the crown touches her tiny, scaled hand. There was only moments of pause, as she held the crown in her hands. Kashikas head turns to the group. This had been her intention from the very beginning.
To claim the crown for herself. But she looked at everyone and winked with one eye. Whether they saw it or not was irrelevant. She would keep every promise she made. To herself, and to those no longer with us. But right now.....
She placed the crown on her head, her eyes now locked to those in the portal as this tiny kobold held the determination of the greatest of giants.
Soon her vision swam, and she found herself in oblivion with light from only a single source. Power. She knew without trying if she attempted to claim it all right now, she would be consumed by it. But kashika was clever... she hated to admit it but her horrid life had given her many gifts she may otherwise never have, including wisdom and intelligence beyond her kinds normal.
Her hand reached out, touching the sphere of power. Her fingers traced over it, like a lover. She would take as much as she could handle. Instead of shorting herself, or destroying herself.
She traced her hand over the sphere, slowly, slowly. What felt like an eternity in this dimension devoid of time. But she slowly grabbed more of the power, until she felt that taking more would be dangerous filling her "cup" to 99% as it were, before accepting it, returning to reality.
"Well...this is....surprising." A high feminine voice breaks the silence in Kashika's mind. "Oh....is this a good thing? Or...." The voice rambles a bit before trailing off as it does, the air behind the now smaller orb of power shimmers like a pool of water, and a blurry image appears. A small white dragon taps the tips of her pointer claws together thoughtfully, and almost nervously. "I suppose this could be a good thing, if it's done right...."She looks down at you. "Uh, high there. So you decided to become the next ruler of the underworld huh? I really, really hope you know what you are doing.... You are aware that you now have to follow some of the rules of the crown right? Oh I suppose you probably don't. I guess I'll have to explain it as best I can..." There is not a hint of malice in this dragon's voice as she continues. "Since you are not a native, you are exempt from some rules, though others you must still abide." She pauses, "Oooooh but you are going to have to deal with the siblings and you can't wield all of the power... You aren't going to be able to summon champions like they can, but luckily they can't harm you themselves since you've claimed the crown..."She shakes her head. "What am I saying, the Lower Realm now has three guardians of draconic blood. This should make things better, so long as you can keep the siblings from fighting to much. Their conflict is what has broken this world, and it could very well cause it's collapse..." A pained expression crosses her face. "And the breaking of many other realms..." She shakes her head again, "Enough of that, I must tell you more before this vision ends." She looks you strait in the eyes. "These are the rules you must abide. You cannot use this power to harm anyone of this realm, that includes the siblings, if you do it will have dire consequences for you. Though if you are cleaver you may be able to use it in a roundabout way. You also cannot use it to send yourself or anyone of this realm to another realm. Normally you would be able to send champions home, but you cannot wield that much power." Her eyes widen, "That said I will have to help you send your friends home. DO NOT let the black dragon teleport them. He has no intention of letting any prey escape. Once he and his disciple are gone, approach the Well of Tears and draw on this power. Once you do this tell your friends to jump in, and I will direct them back to their worlds." The image flickers. "Oh dear! I used up our time! Uh Um. Well I will see you the next time you need me. Good luck Little Guardian!"
The vision fades and Kashika re-enters reality. It is as if only a few seconds has passed.
(For clarification, Kashika can use this power to affect the Abyssal dragon and the portal, however she can't use it to harm Shurkan. Though she could use it to cast spells like levitate on him. Using the power makes it an auto success. If she does try to harm him with it, say using an attack spell. It will be an auto crit, but she will also have to take half the damage.)
"Good. Good. Now before I fade, let us send your friends home..." The voice sounds from the portal.
Before it can continue, Shurkan's lips curl into a snarl, "This is wrong! You were not supposed to be so willing to follow! You're really just going to play into his hands?" He yells at Kashika, "I was meant to rule! Not you! I only needed more time!" His claws twitch again and he laughs, "You are not a citizen....you do not have protection!"
The eyes in the dark narrow. "Don't you dare. She is of my blood, you are a mere tool--" The voice says in a low menacing tone.
However, Shurkan continues as if he never heard, "HAHAHA, I can KILL you! Then master will see I am the one who is worthy!" He laughs manically and reaches for his greataxe.
"STOP"
The minotaurs laughter is cut off as his hand trembles a few inches from his axe handle. "Wha-what? I-I can't--- WHAT IS THIS! WHY CAN'T I MOVE!"

Before Kashika can even respond, the 'vision' fades, not unlike it had before but with this unnamed dragon who shouted her name in a vision. Of course, his declaration had her confused. Right now, she had no reason to respond, nor time to think about what the light had told her, especially after his claim. As her senses once more return to her let us send your friends home she remembered at-least that much... The threats of the Demonitaur wouldn't have phased her regardless, she'd been living in fear of things similar in their ways if not his looks.... But Kashika was clever. There was always a way around the rules, and she would find it like a Djinni.
Regardless, as everyone else seemed to stand silent a factor Kashika's player feels sorry about! No, nameless dragon. They are mine as well. This whole world belong to me, and no one else. she declared, just after he claimed she was kin. Cyra is my mother, for better or worse.she said, though the claim was simply something she had come to the conclusion of, but lacked the proof for... it was a guess, at best, based on similarities, and nothing more.
And if I were, truly your kin, perhaps instead of dropping me onto Faerun to fend for myself, leaving me alone to spend every day nearly dying, and always under threat, then to be whisked away to this world for it to all happen again.... you should have raised me yourself, or through proxy... she said, nodding her muzzle at the demonitaur.
And groomed me into your weapon, convinced me of your right to this world, and that your way was the way. Instead, you let this weapon sharpen itself, and left her with a burning hatred for whatever had spawned her. Whether Cyra true, or you. For now my fury burns hotter than a sun. And I may lack the ability to harness this power in full, but I will grow, and in time, I will eclipse Cyra, Zoran, and even yourself. her amber eyes burned like Pyroclastic flows.
I will turn this world on its head, and those who abuse those like me will suffer, and those like you who think only to use those like me will learn how hard the scales can tip.
You are, and always will be, the master .. of nothing
Besides, though they are not here..She says, thinking of Zaltan, and the Mage... I have promises to keep. her hand opens, and outstretches, both at the portal, and her ... friends. As she does not know which she can do, she simply tries both... the hand facing the portal closes into a fist, while the hand facing the party closes into a circle.
Either she will force the unnamed dragons portal to close, or to protect her friends from his power if unable. But if the former is within her power, before it fully closes, she sends him off with a warning....
I will come for you in time. And I will tear everything you posess, and everything you are until you cease to exist, and I will rend your soul to oblivion.
Regardless of which can happen, she had never let go of her levitation spell.... and it had likely been less than six minutes.... Her fiery vision turning to the deminotaur I cannot kill you, Shurkan.... but they can.she says, lifting him just high enough off the ground that he could posess no traction, but so all of his allies, even the battle-starved Nygil could do what they needed to.
IF nothing in the last chunks are possible, let me know.
"Wait this guys's related to you?" Nygil asks, gesturing to the big black dragon. He stares for a moment before throwing his hands in the air and saying, "Ohayyyy I'm not going to pretend I understand anything that's going on right now. He trails off as Kashika begins miraculously closing the portal. "Wasn't he going to send us back? Or... well I didn't really trust him anyways."
When Kashika indicates that they should fight the minotaur, Nygil look in his direction and grins, "Well well you want to dance then?" He raises his fists and charges at the hapless individual. "Let's do this the fun way!"

"Think what you will Daughter. But tread carefully, you never know when the ground will fall out from beneath your feet. When you fall, I will be there to watch you plummet into the abyss along with that miserable world you seek to rule. That I promise. Now, let us see whose word will be kept, and whose will break."
Shurkan howls as he is once again flung towards the ceiling. He finally manages to grab his greataxe, and prepares to swing it at whoever approaches. "Now he cannot interfere! HAHA." His legs flail above the floor as he glances at Kashika, then the party before locking eyes with Nygil. "HAHA, Oh yes little elf, let's dance." Seeing Nygil suddenly take off as the meeting reaches a boiling point, Devona closes her eyes for a moment and a brisk chill fills the air as she conjures a Sleet Storm around the back half of the room, shrouding the minotaur in a wintry zone.
Oh, Nameless dragon? Is that so? You seem quite distressed at these events.. for someone who just moments before told me that everything I do benefits you. It seems your bluff - has been called.she said as quickly as she could before the portal fully closed, mocking him with his own words.
As Kashika cannot fight this thing directly, she will get close enough to cast Minor Illusion directly over his face. She takes a moment to look around the room, taking in the details, the structures and objects... and then, centered on his head, where the cube would cover his eyes, she creates a sphere.. and within that sphere, from his perspective the room would look exactly like the room does, except without the party in it. It would remain as a static image. The intent: To effectively bind him to the party as he can't see them, thus giving everyone advantage on attacks against him, and him disadvantage on attacks against them.
"Ummm...." started Jumble to no one in particular, "I thought that voice couldn't come through to us? Are we supposed to be fighting the portal?!"
Seeing as he only recognized one enemy in the room, the bard targeted the floating minotaur, and used his shawm to cast a spell at him, hopefully arresting the entire fight.
ACTION: Cast Hypnotic Pattern, targeting the minotaur. (Need a DC 15 WIS saving throw) MOVE: Back up against the side of the stairs, attempting to use them for minimal cover if possible
(Well if you entered the storm then I think you had to make a Dex save too, and if Jumble stayed outside the storm he can't target the minotaur directly. If it's an aoe spell though he can try and position it to catch the baddie.)
(Not to be a stickler, but the area around the minotaur is heavily obscured now, so no targeting him from the outside without help I think)
(( OOC: Ack! Totally forgot about the obscurement, thanks. Let's just say Jumble cast Invisibility on himself instead. Because he definitely didn't close into the sleet storm yet. ))
(Going to post here @Rynn, since i can scroll up to see/confirm.)
Based on the wording of the spell and Gnome's wording, I believe they mean this:
They cast Sleet Storm.
We're in a 50x60 space, though I don't know which is the width, so either we have 10 or 20 feet to the back of the room where we all entered.
She said she hit the "back half" of the room, covering the minotaur so she meant the part of the room farther away from the party, leaving the side we entered from 'unsleeted'
I don't know how far the minotaur is but based on that then yes, both Nygil and myself would be caught in it based on where we went.

(Not to be a stickler, but the area around the minotaur is heavily obscured now, so no targeting him from the outside without help I think)
(Who are you talking to devona?)

(Well if you entered the storm then I think you had to make a Dex save too, and if Jumble stayed outside the storm he can't target the minotaur directly. If it's an aoe spell though he can try and position it to catch the baddie.)
(Ok so did you do this even though Kashika is in that area? Just wanting to clarify.)
(And Nygil for that matter... I think he went over there...)
