(Level 1 of exhaustion doesn't give disadvantage on attack rolls and the creature is not that far away for the longbow to have disadvantage. Also the light from the flame gave its position for a moment so it doesn't benefit from the darkness. Write the first roll on your post because I'm always using a mobile phone and I can't hover a mouse.)
(Not sure if this effects Alton getting hit but the shortsword is put away because he climbed on the back of Riskah to get out of the really high for him water. Also you said we heard the wings which means they would not have surprised us so why do they have advantage???)
Alton hear something large stepping on the sand behind the group but as he turn around, he sees nothing. You hear a someone breathing on your ears and it starts to whisper.
"You should have paid more attention on your surroundings little halfling, but then again, finding an invisible mist is quite hard."
The creature slowly appears out of thin air as the Invisibility spell fades. You only taught of them as something to scare naughty children but as you look at the large creature's features, it matches those that haunts the darkness and the living embodiment of nightmares. An Oni.
Its unnatural blue skin, short protruding ivory horns, and black teeth that smiles menacingly at you.
"Brother, don't waste time! The tide is coming, we don't want to stay here for too long."
You hear the direction of the shout through the darkness.
The blue skinned oni seemed irritated at first but complies to his brother's suggestion.
"I would have wanted to take a bite since those snacks falling down the bridge did not fill me up but we have already served our purpose in here and we don't want to anger the master of this place.
Perhaps, if you still have your mind after meeting him, we can have a very wonderous night later on."
He chuckles and slowly walks away. Another Oni with a green skin wearing a helmet drops down. They both reconvene and with a blink of an eye they both vanished.

Believer of the almighty one, the Alpha and the Omega, whose love encompasses all of his creations, RNGesus.
Started as a player at time of registration. Started to DM a month later. Hoping to get better as time progresses.
Which of the two oni? If your target was the flying creature, you already used your reaction to attack with the longbow before it disappeared into the darkness.
Jeff releases an arrow and it strikes true to its target. You hear its cries of pain before it flew away back to the darkness.
For a brief moment, both you and Rinc saw it was an orange kobold with wings.
The oni didn't attack, he showed himself to the party purposely. Everyone near the oni as it leaves can make an attack of opportunity (Riskah, Sen'ra, and Alton) and a turn for everyone (even Sandral since she heard the commotion) before he and his brother vanishes.
(Honestly I was casting at the creature I shot at, if he disappeared I wouldn't have cast and not spent a spell slot. My focus was on him so I wouldn't have cast on the Oni, yet. If he doesn't disappear I'll cast it on the one Alton is engaged with.)

Rinc grabs his longbow and readies an arrow as soon as he hears the wings.
Jeff also let's go of the rope now that his comrades have taken hold.
He draws his bow and knocks an arrow, ready to shoot at the source of the flapping wings.
Simultaneous rays of fire came from the darkness, targeting Alton that is holding the glowing shortsword, Jeff, and Rinc.
Alton: Attack: 24 Damage: 12 Fire damage
Jeff: Attack: 18 Damage: 6 Fire damage
Rinc: Attack: 17 Damage: 7 Fire damage
(Jeff and Rinc, make an attack roll using your longbow)
It then shouts in Draconic and then you hear it hovering back in the darkness.
Rinc launches and arrow back at the shape
8 attack with disadvantage....
7 damage
Note regardless of other reasons or not...currently any weapon Rinc uses besides his longsword is at disadvantage.....

Rinc unleashes an arrow to the creature but releases it too early, making it only halfway before it drops to the ground.

Jeff let's his arrow fly as soon as he sees the initial flames, giving him enough time to barely dodge the heat.
Attack Long Bow: 25
Damage: 4
He then casts "Hunters Mark" on their foe.

(Ok I was just trying to figure out how and where I got hit from. You didn't need to kick me out of the campaign....)
( I didn't. Might have accidentally touched the phone screen while looking at stats. Link is on private message. )
(Understood I have accidently done the same myself on my own campaign.)
Alton will bring attempt to bring his shortsword down on the oni as soon as he gets a clear look at it.
Attack: 21 Damage: 9
Slashing Flourish: 6
The blade sinks into the Oni's flesh, leaving a deep wound.
That is for your opportunity attack. You still have a turn to spend.
(If I can attack then let's hope this does well.)
Alton wll draw one of his daggers as he pulls his short sword back for another swing at the oni, not taking kindly to the taunting.
Shortsword: Attack: 18 Damage: 6
Dagger:Attack: 21 Damage: 6
The Oni evades the shortsword that previously hit him but didn't anticipate the incoming dagger, stabbing him right at thigh.
