The group of kobolds continues to approach. (I assume everyone is gathered near Tomas.) They stop at, what they feel, is a respectable distance to have between themselves and someone new. (About 5 ft)
One of them looks at Tomas on the ground, “Is he sleeping?”
Before you have time to answer, the rest of the kobolds are all piping up with their own questions.
”Why are you here?”
”What’s your name?”
“What’s that?”
”How long will you be here?”
”Are you gonna sleep here on the beach?”
There are other questions, but those are the few that you were able to catch over the cacophony of noise of them all talking at once.
A couple of them begin poking and prodding at Tomas. Almost like they are trying to wake him up.
Pilo points to the zombie corpses. Then to his wounds, and then the rest of the party. “We just landed. Got attacked by them. Is that normal around here? Help us get him to the temple to get healed and I’ll tell you the whole story.”
“Help us get him to the temple and we’ll tell you the whole story”
Six pairs of eyes snap immediately in your direction Pilo. Looking excited at the prospect of hearing more from you. They exchange quick glances with each other and all six kobolds move to pick up Tomas.
(giving you all a moment to stop/intervene/chime in/etc.)
Tomas now dreams he is at sea again, being tossed around on the deck of the boat, lifting and falling with the waves, and feeling not a little seasick.
Merric grabs the dagger out of the head of the zombie and pulls out a cloth to wipe the nastiness off of the dagger. He places the daggers back into their stylish, dual shoulder holster and flicks his cloak. He might be a halfling but there are times his presence looms largely. He walks behind this procession, leaving the others to guide the way.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
Pilo hears another chorus of voices speaking at once as all five kobolds try and answer the question at the same time.It takes a bit of time to sort out. But you eventually determine that their names are Blepp, Frub, Kilnip, Laylee, and Mumpo. Rix of course is still there but you already knew their name.
The kobolds assist with carrying Tomas as best they can. Two kobolds on either side, while Pilo carrying him with his hands hooked under the shoulder. The remaining two kobolds carry Tomas’s gear and follow along a little ways from the group carrying the body. (In my mind Keeliel and Merric would either be between the two groups or at the very end of the procession.)
A long path leads from the rocky shore up the side of the cliff, with occasional stairs to ease the ascent. Here and there along the lower part of the path, well-tended garden plots hold flowers, herbs, and vegetables.
The kobolds need to stop a few times for quick breaks and to adjust their grip. But the group overall makes decent time up the path.
About thirty feet above the bay, the path widens into a long plaza. Halfway along the plaza, a stone statue of a dragon gazes serenely down the path. Six open doorways are cut into the cliff side.
The kobolds carrying Tomas’s gear go through the first door and emerge a few moments later empty handed. During the climb, the kobolds continued to pepper you all with questions.
Mainly hoping they had done enough to “get the whole story” as Pilo had said. Near the statue there’s three more kobolds and a couple of human’s sitting and talking with an elderly human woman with weathered brown skin, white hair in tight braids, and kindly hazel eyes, dressed in a simple white robe. Seeing everyone approach, she smiles as she draws near and extends her arms in greeting.
“Welcome to Dragon’s Rest,” she says “May Bahamut’s guidance lead you to whatever you seek.”
She looks at Tomas, recognizing the holy symbols of Bahamut and adds “It would seem as though one of you seeks some healing.” She states looking between the visitors.
She calls over her shoulder back in the direction of the statue, “Tarak? Would you help Rix and the other kobolds bring this man up to the temple area? I will see to him as soon as I’ve finished speaking with our guests.”
You see one of the humans approach, a human in late middle age. He has pale skin tanned darker with many freckles, auburn hair and a beard that is mostly gray, and gray-blue eyes. Faded tattoos in an abstract design peek up the side of his neck from beneath his dirt-stained robes.
He gives the woman a polite nod and a small bow, “As you wish Runara.” And helps the kobolds carry Tomas further up the path. (Which they will do unless you object)
As Tomas is carried further up the path by Tarak and the kobolds Runara watches them until they are out of sight and returns her attention to the three of you. Waiting intently for you to speak.
Keeliel actually makes a couple of attempts to interrupt and get the woman to pay attention to her, but finally waits until she appears to be done. At that point though, she does not hesitate, stepping up.
”Elder Runara, my name is Keeliel and I am here to investigate the arcane observatory on this island. A… colleague of mine recently lost their life in pursuit of this knowledge, and I wish to discover why. What can you tell me about this place?”
When it is his turn to speak, Pilo says, "My name is Pilo, and I would like to know if those were actually zombies down there, and if that's ever happened before."
In response to Keeliel, “It is a pleasure to meet you. I’m sorry to hear about your colleague and wish you the best of luck with your search. I have a fair bit of knowledge regarding this place.
Though I’m not entirely certain what information you are looking for specifically. I’ll answer your question as generally as I can. I created this cloister as a safe haven from violence and for those who seek peace and reconciliation. I named this place Dragon’s Rest due to the fact that this island has been the final resting place of several dragons over the years. If one is particularly attuned to magic, you can almost feel the lingering energy from them.”
As she finishes speaking, she gives you a quizzical, almost hopeful look. “Does this answer satisfy your question.”
Seeing an opening in the conversation Pilo chimes in giving Keeliel a moment to think.
”Pleasure to meet you as well Pilo. From my understanding they are actually zombies. Though I Am unsure what a not actual zombie would be.” She gives a small grin at her own joke and continues. “We have noticed an increase in the number of those beings in the past few weeks and I am uncertain as to what might be causing them. Perhaps investigating the shipwrecks might lead to answers?”
Addressing the three of you collectively, “I appreciate you all taking care of the creatures that you did. Hopefully, we will have less issues down on the beach. I know that Tarak has mentioned he has been wanting to take the rowboat to pay the myconids a visit. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go tend to your companion.”
With that she gives a small head nod, turns on her heel and walks after the Tomas to help tend his wounds. As she goes to leave what would you all like to do?
Keeliel is left quite clearly conflicted between wanting to be found particularly attuned to magic and wanting actual answers about the observatory, not the silly island. She couldn't care less about the island. As Elder Runara strides away, she fumes a little. Looking at the others and finding no help, or nobody she thinks can help, she starts off after the retreating hermit. "But, what about the observatory? What can you tell me about it?" she calls out, trotting fast to catch up.
As you walk alongside Runara she glances at you occasionally while addressing your question, “I know much about the observatory. Much of the knowledge contained there is dangerous, or potentially dangerous. Last I knew the observatory was occupied by dangerous creatures who would rather eat you than anything else. After you’ve proven yourself capable of handling more than a few zombies, I’ll feel comfortable sharing the location of the observatory with you.” She pauses and considers her next words carefully. “I would hate to lose any more potential to the evil that seems to suffuse and surround that place”.
By this point in the speech you have passed a small, free-standing building halfway up the path. It has a peaked roof and a weathered wooden door. A sturdy wooden pallet wrapped with rope hangs beneath the building on an iron chain, lying flat against the cliff face. You are also currently about 50 ft above the water as you round the corner and make your way back west towards the temple you can see a bit in the distance.
"More potential?" Keeliel homes in on the key phrase there. "Did you advise others about it? Do you know what happened to them? Did anyone come back? Do you know what they were looking for?"She is full of questions as she hurries along beside the Elder.

Pilo, still beat up pretty badly from the zombies, takes a moment to patch himself up (Second wind: 8). He prepares to receive visitors.
"Feel like I saw people where when we disembarked but maybe I was imagining things. Guys, where are we? Where is everyone? And who are they?"
The group of kobolds continues to approach. (I assume everyone is gathered near Tomas.) They stop at, what they feel, is a respectable distance to have between themselves and someone new. (About 5 ft)

Tomas dreams of being poked and prodded repeatedly by small, cold fingers. It's very vivid.

One of the kobolds introduces herself as Rix and answers Pilo’s question regarding the zombie attack.
“Only since the shipwreck that happened a little while ago”
She then addresses Keeliel’s question, “I can mostly certainly introduce you to her after we see to your… friend’s? Treatment.”
They give a kind smile and get ready to lift Tomas with the other kobolds.
Pilo will help carry Tomas and is happy to have the kobolds’ help. “I am Pilo. What are your names?”
He feels a little surreal saying that.
Tomas now dreams he is at sea again, being tossed around on the deck of the boat, lifting and falling with the waves, and feeling not a little seasick.
Keeliel raises a brow when Rix calls Tomas her 'friend,' but leaves it at that, trailing the

Tomas continues, as best he can, not to be dead. This is possibly in order to thwart Keeliel.
