Shayan shuddered at the sounds of the closing gates which, for her comfort, had too much an air of finality about them. She welcomes Tuck to scout ahead, mouthing, “Sorry for the noise,” while tapping her chain mail and falls back a few more feet in an effort to avoid giving them away before Tuck or Luna can see or hear any danger. Finally, she decides to take down and don her shield, just in case. Suddenly, she feels a bit safer already,
Orlan speaks to his group, "This fog sure is a bummer, I am so used to being able to see anything and everything. It is making me very anxious. Best to be prepared for anything." He grips his warhammer and shield tighter than ever.

Cursing silently under his breath, Tuck quietly makes his way back to the group, trailing behind him, nose, wrinkled in distaste. He speaks softly enough so that his voice carries, but a few feet. “Neither my familiar, nor I can see much through the fog, but I can tell you that ahead lies the stench of death. Best to be prepared.“
Tuck silently draws both his slim rapier and sturdy dagger, then returns to the hunt, following the scent of death ahead of them along the Misty path.

Shayan draws a light hammer in response to Tuck’s report. Then she follows Tuck at a save distance and listens to the best of her abilities, concentrating on any sounds coming from the forest on either side of the road.
(Tuck) The foul scent leads you and Luna to a human corpse half-buried in the underbrush about fifteen feet from the road. The young man appears to be a commoner. His muddy clothes are torn and raked with claw marks. Crows have been at the body, which is surrounded by the paw prints. The man has obviously been dead for several days. He holds a crumpled envelope in one hand.
Carefully you bend down and gently remove the bloodstained envelope from the poor soul's hand. The envelope is sealed with a red wax seal embossed with a capital B. You break the seal and peruse the contents.
Hail thee of might and valor:
I, the Burgomaster of Barovia, send you honor—with despair.
My adopted daughter, the fair Ireena Kolyana, has been these past nights bitten by a vampyr. For over four hundred years, this creature has drained the life blood of my people. Now, my dear Ireena languishes and dies from an unholy wound caused by this vile beast. He has become too powerful to conquer.
So I say to you, give us up for dead and encircle this land with the symbols of good. Let holy men call upon their power that the devil may be contained within the walls of weeping Barovia. Leave our sorrows to our graves, and save the world from this evil fate of ours.

Hearing warning from Tuck, June attempts to move quietly as well. After seeing his companion read the envelope, June looks to his friends with nervousness. "We need to move. I don't know what creature killed this man, but I do not want to be here for long enough to find out."

Orlan shutters at the sight of the dead but gathers his composure. "Why don't we take a peak to see if we can tell what killed the poor man. It might give us some insight as to what sort of creatures we may face out here."
At the sound of the howls, Tuck grabs the hilt of both of his weapons a bit tighter. To the others, he says, “I have a feeling those critters aren’t too friendly-like. Can I suggest we move along, and try to find a more defensible place?“

"Let's move along the road, with some luck we get closer to some settlement and they let off of us." With hammer and shield in hand she tries to put herself in the way of her companions and what she believes is the most likely direction of an attack. "Did you find anything worthwhile, Tuck?"
Orlan readies himself at the sound of the wolves. "Judging by the marks on the body, the same wolves we hear now are responsible for the death of the young man here. Be ready."
As you listen you notice that the howls are drawing closer and closer, then as suddenly as they started, they cease. Then behind you, from out of the mist, lope four Dire Wolves. Their teeth bared and emitting a hateful growl. (Distance 60')
(Tuck) after the Party moves down the road around 200 yards you catch the scent of death.
