Sorry, I though I put this in there but I guess I didn't. It was one of his guards saying "Sorry, your majesty, were you saying something?"
Rain, your investigation and perception checks:
Investigation - 14: You are able to see that most of the goblins have nothing useful, mainly some common weaponry. However, the hobgoblin has a paper by him, one that probably fell out of his pocket.
Perception - 17: They obviously don't want to be heard, but are not trying their hardest to stay quiet, as this is another language you don't recognize.
Saralyn would like to see if she can spot any obvious gaps in the castle's defenses or some other way the goblins would have gotten in. (I'm using Perception instead of investigation with the assumption that I'm not actually moving up to the walls and inspecting them closely, just trying to spot abnormalities from far away):

Will everyone stop calling him "The Demogorgon"? It's his name, not a title!

(For the DM)
Rain, of course, picks up the paper from the hobgoblin and puts it in his pouch.
Was Rain able to try the door to the King's "personal room," or was he never alone in the throne room to try it?
(It's a difficult to any this kind of back-and-forth conversation with everyone posting asynchronously, especially at different times of the day, but let me just try to explain the points that Rain tries to get across, whenever he can reasonably respond. I'll quote some of the previous posts for context.)
The King picked up a clump of raspberries, plopped one in his mouth, and smiled. "Ah, Raspberries. I don't care if they're poisoned, I'll still eat them. I get drunk on these, you know. Very delicious.
Rolan takes a step back. "Be careful with that glaive of yours!"
Rain declares, "King, I certainly care whether the raspberries are poisoned! Are you sure that we are entirely safe here? You brought together a group of volunteers, and you said that Olin was a thief who stole from you." He looks around the table, his expression guarded. "Are you sure that everyone here can be trusted?"
"Oh, yes, yes. Something important. I set up a trail that leads to the temple. It's a bit dusty, but the horses remember it. In the morning, we'll get things ready for you. For now, enjoy the feast!"
Rain tries the food. He is more accustomed to food by a campfire, but he does not want to give offense. "This temple is critical to this quest of yours, hey? How far away is it? What do you know of this temple? What is its history? Has it been used in the recent past? By whom?"
Regarding any discussion of the trail. "How do you maintain a trail in the ever-shifting sands of the dessert? How do you know that your enemies do not watch the trail?"
A human walked into the room, or maybe he was already there but just very quiet. He had silvery blond hair and deep, piercing blue eyes. He was wearing a large white and silver tunic and had a shiny quarterstaff at his side. "Hello, I'm Rolan. I'm a mage of light magic, specializing in the art of the moonlight." He took a sip of some white liquid, probably milk, then continued, "You probably don't know what that is, if you're not from here. But people in Pearl village often have the magic of different types, which they get from magic pearls. That's how we got our name. Forgery magic, entertainers magic, druid's, even some more rare ones like hypnotists. Of course, everything is minor magic, and people only wield one pearl at once. Another thing to know is that there is one part of town called the Onyx district. That's a shady place, heavy in crime. I wouldn't recommend going there." The king had apparently finished a plate already and was getting another round of food.
Rolan held up his hand and curled it slightly, forming a small shimmering white light in the center. "Anything you want to know?" He picked up a large meat pie and put it onto his plate.
"Many things! What do you mean about pearl magic?"
"How do they 'get' magic from pearls?"
"What kind of spellcraft is that? Can anyone use these magic pearls or only spellcasters?"
"Why is it called the Onyx district? In the desert, shade can be a blessing, but I think that you meant that as a bad thing! Why wouldn't we go there? Do you have enemies there?"
"Are the problems in the Onyx district are related to the business of this temple in any way?"
The king stands. "There is a strange storm growing over the village with unpredictable paths, and raids are getting more common. All I know is that it has something to do with the desert temple not too far out. There is something powerful inside it. So I called in some adventurers. Care to join us?"
"What?! Do you mean like a real storm? With rain and thunder? Or just that 'there's trouble brewing', like my mother used to say?"
"Ah, let me clarify some things. Who is up for a story?" The king said mystically. Rolan opened his mouth and began to speak, saying, "Long ago, there was a nearby sea where ocean creatures sought to trade with us, but at that time we had nothing to give. The sea people misunderstood this and thought we were being rude not giving them a gift. So they attacked us. And that is when Gairus stepped in. Gairus was a powerful man, and fit for battle. But most importantly, he was very cunning. He spoke to the chief of the sea people and said we would give all our forests for their pearls. They accepted, and Gairus made both himself and the others promise they wouldn't go back don't the deal, as to 'not cheat'. The people of the sea did not realize that they would get nothing, because Gairus didn't say they would actually get forests, he said that all the forest we had would be theirs, and we had none. Bound to his word, the chief of the sea gave over a shipment of their pearls. But they were not given quietly. The people of the sea attacked the village, but Gairus helped fight them off with the power of the magic pearls. Gairus was named the hero of the village, and they made a temple to honor him. But only 3 years later they realized that he had cheated to get the pearls. They were angry at him and tried to break down his temple. But he struck first and slew the king of the desert with his sword. To this day, we are known as pearl village because of the magic pearls we own." Rolans' expression darkened as he continued on to the next part. "But things were not peaceful, even after Gairus was hanged. There were some people who believed what he was doing was for the best, that he was not the criminal here. So they made another part of town called the Onyx district. It was a shady part of town. Oh, and by 'shady part of town' I mean crime and dark things, not physically dark. Anyways this part of town was filled with crime, as revenge for what happened to Gairus."
The king stood up to finish the story. "And now, my defenders, this is how this applies to us now. There is a huge storm brewing above us. I don't think this has anything to do with Gairus, but this is what I do think. Somebody, probably from a far-out land, is using the temple as a hiding place. I fear it could be the sea people, but I don't think they have goblins with them. Whatever it is, the weather is getting affected by this, making large smoky clouds drift over the village from time to time. Just a week before you showed up, it was raining ash. And one more thing. Rain, you are right, we are not safe here. It must be easy to get to the town because the Onyx District must have something in it. It's been getting busier lately. And that brings us to this next mission. Check the Onyx district, in the morning if you're willing to. See if there is anything hiding there. For now though, just enjoy this meal. And get some rest."
"Well, this was good food, your majesty," Rolan said as he walked out the door. "I'd better go to my room, I have some crime to deal with in the morning. Defenders, you'd better head to your rooms as well."
Reminder for players of what the castle looks like.
"Are there any remaining sea folk? It seems to me that they should be returned their pearls, even if they did attack this village in retaliation for the double-cross."

I'll go over to Rain and mutter, "There are no structure weaknesses in the castle. There's no way the goblinoids could have gotten in. I think that someone should check the king's personal area, stealthily."

Saralyn:
Strange, the castle seems perfectly well-defended.

Ghurk will go ahead and sit down at the table and try the food. He eats quickly, and cleanly.

Good question. What food do you enjoy? There's lots of meat, stew, backed goods, salad... What do bugbears like to eat?

Ghurk enjoys wine and ale, and loves meat. He doesn't care for fruits or vegetables, but spices are always welcome.

Well good, because there is a lot of hard drink and a lot of meat, and everything has spices. Although there is also a lot of vegetables.

He'll take the wine, gulp down a bit too much, and eat some meat. "Delicious!"
I'll make a constitution saving throw for the whole wine thing.

For Rain:
When you pick up the paper, you see small sketches of... You? And is that Ghurk and Saralyn?
And since everyone is feasting, you can try the door to the kings room if you'd like.
