"Sorry, everyone," Rolan calls out, "Just an intruder, he's gone now. Jumped out the window." His voice is shakey, it sounds nervous. "Rolan, you okay?" Someone calls out. No answer.
(since there are so many people talking in this post, I'll color them so you can tell the difference because in real life you would be able to distinguish voices. Blue is Rolan, you know his voice.)
Footsteps going up the stairs. There is a bang on the door closest to the stairs. Rolan's door swings open, and an arrow fires. "Where are they!" A gruff voice yells. "The defenders? Why would I tell you? Get out." There is a flash from under the door. There is a sound of someone getting slammed into a wall, followed by another flash of light. Someone collapses, and people run up the stairs. "You know what I want, fool. Not those, those so-called defenders. I'll deal with them later.""Then what do you want?" Sound of weapon against weapon. "You of all people should know, Rolan." Sound of a weapon being swung, and someone collapses. "Rolan, where is it? I asked you, where-" A yell as someone is hit. "Get out, intruder!" Someone else collapses. An arrow is shot. "I told you not to come here! I'll give you nothing!""Then you'll die." More slicing and flashing. Someone hits the wall. The third door is hit and entered, then left. One of the windows shatters. More people run upstairs. "Where's the intruder?""He's in there!" Window gets smashed.
(OOC: I'm going to try not to get too far ahead of Ghurk and Saralyn, so don't feel a need to reply right away, KingOrc. I'll just lay out some some of Rain's reactions here so that you can move him around if I'm offline while the others are posting.)
When Rolan's image first appeared in the room, Rain jumped and looked very startled. As Rolan's image faded, he grabbed the paper, rolled it up, and stuffed it into his pouch. (I think that the intrusion happened very soon after that.) At the noises coming through the door, Rain initially just turned toward the door and listened intently.
> Footsteps going up the stairs.
Rain looks to Ghurk and Saralyn. We came into this room to plan. Does Ghurk has his Glaive? Is there even room to wield it in this room?
> There is a bang on the door closest to the stairs. Rolan's door swings open, and an arrow fires.
(The sound indicated that the bow was fired in Rolan's direction from somewhere near the top of the stairs? Or the other direction, from Rolan's room to toward the stairs? Perception7)
Rain draws both of his scimitars and moves to stand next to the door with his back to the wall. Basically, Rain wants to be positioned so that he would be able to surprise an intruder who opens the door before the intruder would be far enough into the room to see Rain. He waits in growing alarm as he listens to everything happening in the hallway.
> You know what I want, fool. Not those, those so-called defenders
But he cocks his head to the side curiously at that.
> A yell as someone is hit. "Get out, intruder!"
To Rain, that sounds like the guards have arrived. "The guards are here. We should help?" He looks to Saralyn and Ghurk for agreement.
If they seem to agree, he leaves his spot by the wally and says, "Saralyn, on the count of 3, open the door but stay here until we say it's clear. Ghurk, I'll take the stairs. You go to Rolan? Don't kill any kings' men! And hopefully, they'll recognize us from before."
If they agree, he looks to Saralyn to make sure that she's ready and then counts, "One. Two. Three!"
"Sorry, everyone," Rolan calls out, "Just an intruder, he's gone now. Jumped out the window." His voice is shakey, it sounds nervous. "Rolan, you okay?" Someone calls out. No answer.
I'm not sure whether we make it out of the room before or after Rolan said that. Rain's plan was to head toward the stairs to try to defend it against any other intruders. If the stairs seem clear, he'll look up the hall to make sure that Ghurk doesn't need his help.
If Ghurk needs help (fighting off intruders, dealing with panicked guards, dealing with Rolan), Rain will head up the hall to help Ghurk. As he passes their original room, he says, "Saralyn, stairs were clear, but watch our back."
If Ghurk seemed fine, he'll say, "Stairs are clear! Ghurk, I'm going to check downstairs!" In this case, Rain proceeds down the stairs cautiously, looking for intruders. But, honestly, he's hoping that in the chaos of yet another attack, the guards may be focused upstairs, and he'll finally get a chance to look in the king's "personal room" without being noticed. The intruder was after someone or something. Maybe that's where "they" are hidden.
Rolan looks up, shaking slightly. He seems to be trying to hide his anger, but not to much avail. "Nothing is wrong, just an intruder. I'll just..." He picks up a fallen arrow and snaps it between his fingers. "Guards, find him. I want him for questioning. I want to know why he came for my... you know. And what gave him the guts to face me. I just hope he isn't with the enemy." He looks back down at the floor and stares at the ground. He pulls a coin out of his pocket and stares at it. The two remaining guards walk over to Rolan.
"Who? As we have demonstrated, our group are the strongest single defenders this castle currently has. If you tell us what happened, we can protect you and bring this person to justice better."

The guards run down the stairs to find the intruder. Rolan looks up at Saralyn. "Really, I'm fine. It's just..." He stares at the coin for a moment. "I told him never to return. Not after... after..."

(OOC: I tend to leave a post open for a while and then add to it in between other things. But that's clearly not a good idea! In the future, I'll try to fire off shorter messages. I was just worried that that can drive a back-and-forth pace if KingOrc happens to be available, which can make it difficult for party members who aren't online at that time.)
OK. So, I don't know whether anything that I mentioned earlier happened or whether Saralyn simply ran out the door before Rain was able to move. In any case, it sounds like Saralyn (and Ghurk?) went to Rolan. Rain will head down the stairs, basically as described before.
Rain's plan was to head toward the stairs to try to defend it against any other intruders.
If the stairs seem clear, he'll look up the hall to see that Ghurk and Saralyn are safe. Rain says, "Stairs are clear! I'm going to check downstairs!"
In this case, Rain leaves Rolan to them and proceeds down the stairs cautiously, looking for intruders. He wants to make sure that we're not surprised by a second wave of attackers. But, honestly, he's also hoping that in the chaos of yet another attack today, the guards will be focused upstairs or searching for the intruder outside, and he will finally get a chance to look in the king's "personal room" without being noticed. He's bursting with curiosity. The intruder was after someone or something. Maybe that's where "they" are hidden.
If the supply room at the bottom of the stairs is free from intruders, and he doesn't hear sound of active combat nearby, (Perception12), Rain will move through that room and to the doorway to the throne room. If he doesn't see anyone in the throne room (Perception12) and no signs of combat nearby, he'll move across the hall toward the kings personal room while sheathing one scimitar.
When he gets there, he turns around with his back to the door and squats low and stays very still. (Stealth18)
He squats there quietly for a moment, making sure that no one is nearby or running into the room. (Perception19) If there's no one coming, he puts his free hand to the door and tries to open it quietly. (Stealth16)
And, of course, if Rain runs into a troupe a bunch of goblins or a troupe of king's guards, his plan stops there, and I'll redirect once I know what he sees.
You see nobody when going down, or in the throne room. You walk to the door and listen, and because of your brilliant role of 6, you have temporary hearing loss. Do you want to enter?
Kind of? As above. If the coast is clear up until then, Rain tries to open the door a couple of inches. If it opens, he peers inside (remember that he has Darkvision). He wonders why such a private room is not locked. Is it a trapped? is there a guard dog? (Perception6).
If he doesn't see anything frightening or dangerous inside, then he tries to slip into the room unnoticed, still squatting low just inside the room with the door slightly ajar.

I run out into the hallway, bringing two of the spirits up in front of me and the other behind. Is Rolan's door open? What do I see?

Rolan is leaning against the wall at the end of the hall. His eyes are closed. He doesn't appear to be injured though.
