As the Sand and the dwarf leave to assist with the tea, Corric gestures to Rain and Salchar that the human guard isn't trustworthy. "That human with the face covering, we should get him aside for a private chat." the halfling whispers.. "not my thing really, but it's a hunch, uhhh small folk have that intuition you know?" Salchar acknowledges this nods at the noble taking his word for face value for now, not willing to rule out any possibility just yet. He takes his tea and sips it quickly, but politely. "A pleasure, truly..."he says as the noble leaves, "now has there been any canvasing of where the goblins have appeared? connecting of the dots so to speak.."
Jorzaeramon is curious about this business with the goblin attacks. He's heard all sorts of rumors about recent attacks, but now he has luckily found himself in a room where there is real information. All his life, information has been the most important currency. It has helped him build a small "business" here, but more importantly, knowing the right information at the right time is often the key to staying alive.
He closes the book, stands, and moves closer to the party. Looking to Corric, he says, "I beg your pardon. I couldn't help overhearing, and I may be able to help you in talking to this guard. I have some experience in dealing with...untrustworthy associates."
Corric raises an eyebrow, "Is that so?... well it looks like we have some time with him now that he's been injured... what's in it for you though? Not that I don't outwardly just you just yet. I mean you did seem to have tried to sell a stolen necklace not but a few moments ago"the halfling nervously chuckles as he whispers the end of his response.
Sorry, I was in a hurry. I meant to say Sand was leaving. Let me rewrite that:
As Sand leaves the noble's house, you see the human guard has a blowdart in his chest and is on the ground, but still conscious. "The half-orc, he attacked me. He's with the goblins." You see the human is bleeding.
(OOC: that was the human who bumped Rain earlier?)
Rain, instantly alert, says, "What? Another attack?!" He doesn't look too surprised until he sees who was attacked.
(If it was the same guard who bumped him earlier, he'll go into the other room when Saralyn goes to heal him. He suggests removing the man's uniform, armor, and belt to help him rest easier and without constriction. If no one objects, he helps get the guard's uniform and armor off, setting them against the wall in the room where they've put the man to recover. But as he arranges the gear on the floor, Rain tries to coil up the belt and slip it into his pouch. Stealth16)

"Can't a tiefling just try to be helpful? Don't fret about that matter of the necklace. Misunderstandings like that happen from time to time in trade, but I'm sure that it will be resolved shortly." He waves a hand, unconcerned. Seeing the expression on Corric's face, he sits down near him.
"But to be completely honest with you, Master Corric, I have found that it is often helpful to have someone to put in a good word for you. You've come to see my friend, and while you're not the king's guards, you arrived with them. I offer to help the guests of my friend. It costs me only my time, and some day, maybe you'll tell the king and his courtiers about how helpful Jorzaeramon was."
When the injured guard is brought in, Jorzaeramon stands. He looks uncertain, but he finally goes to another part of the room and carries over his own pack, a crossbow, and a quiver of crossbow bolts. He puts it next to him as he sits back down with the party. He wanted his gear close at hand in case the situation deteriorates further.
It is, in fact, the same guard. You enter the other room, and he looks at you. "I'm fine. The dart was just slightly poisoned, and my wound was patched. I just need a short rest." The human leans his head back against the wall. "I think this poison was made only to stun, so he could escape."
Note: The guard has not taken off his armor, as he feels no need to.
After Saralyn heals the guard, Rain returns to the other room with the rest of the party. He sits down and stares at Jorzaeramon for a minute before saying, "Why are you here, heh?"
Jor opens his mouth, pauses, and then says, "I have no where else to go." You have a feeling that it wasn't what he was going to say at first. "Since the guard was attacked right outside, the household is in a bit of an uproar. It would be impolite to depart before the host has given me leave."
Rain doesn't look satisfied, but since the noble already spoke in front of the tiefling, Rain decides that he wouldn't really be sharing anything important in front of the stranger.
"So, what do you all think?" Looking around at Saralyn, Salchar, and Corric. "I share this noble's suspicions. I've always thought that there's something not right about the king and some of his castle guard." Rain recounts some of the events of the last 24 hours: the strange audience with the king, the original attack on the throne room, and then the attack by Raiden that same evening. Salchar has already heard a bit about the magic pearls, but he mentions to Corrin that they were offered magical pearls from the king's treasury to aid in their mission. Saralyn notes that Rain avoids talking about the king's "personal room" or how to access it.
"At this point, I don't trust anyone in this town outside our party. Definitely not the king's men. And definitely not that man," glancing at the room where the wounded soldier lies. "Not even after he was attacked. Not until we can find and question the other guard. This noble seemed sincere, but can we trust his staff? His associates?" That last with a significant glance at Jorzaeramon.
"It does not help that we've seen some powerful magic and illusions in the last 24 hours. So, it's possible that we're dealing with enchanted people who are not their right selves. Or that the noble suspects a traitor when it's really just the enemy using some powerful magic. I would like to learn more about the temple before we just knock on the front door, but I do not know where we'd find that information in this town."

Corric nods along "Of course..sorry don't mean to judge, but the anxiety of this gig is already present in the back of my mind. Do what you can and we'll support ya."

Salchar smiles at Rain's assessment, agreeing with him. "It's plausible that the orc was abducted rather than ran away as well, but I do think you're right, learning more of this temple is a solid foundation to build upon in conjunction with questioning the guard in there...Is there a substantial library nearby? I'd happily lead us in some research for the temple." he bites his lip as he begins to weigh the options, "It may be best for us to move independently of the guard, less direct eyes on us if you know what I mean."
Corric adding further, "Uh what's the name of this temple again? Is it for a specific deity? I might be able to figure something out from what I've learned in my seminary years... but yeah these guys are all sketchy. I don't want to assume the worst, but lets do our due diligence just in case. I don't know the king or nobles very much, but I do know the people I serve, we must find a solution"
I'll share what I remember with the party: "Goblins choose the mightiest asking them as a leader... or they follow a non-goblin out of fear. Given the unusually strategic nature of these attacks, I'd say the latter. We're dealing with something bigger here."
"The goblins fear their gods, different than how we worship. Their fear defines them. You get someone very powerful, and they follow out of fear." The human says.

(OOC: This is the human guard who was recovering from the blowdart wound? Did he just enter from the other room?)

Can I remember anything useful about goblins? History: 11
Will everyone stop calling him "The Demogorgon"? It's his name, not a title!
As the wound isn't that bad, you are able to patch the wound, but you think the dart may be poisoned.

ooc: so is this a new character or the same one you started with? I wasn't sure so I didn't want to interact without double checking.
(OOC: Same one. I'll have a new one as well, probably by tomorrow.)

(OOC: Bummer. I guess I should have made that a sleight-of-hand check. With a natural 20, Rain could have slipped it right off of him!)
Now that the guard is stationary, and Rain can see him up close, does he see any markings or details on the belt or its buckle?
You see nothing, except a slight bump. It's a little round, and disguised as a wrinkle, but it is noticeably different.

Oh, and I guess I missed this post.
You remember goblins attack in groups, and choose the greatest leaders as their leaders. They also follow people out of fear.
