Daphyra murmurs to the others "This cat is one of the guardians of Bastet. I am not sure... let me see."
She touches her amulet and closes her eyes, asking for guidance from the goddess. She watches the cat intently as it paces. perception10 plus 4 guidance.
As you observe the cat more closely, you notice that its aggressive behavior seems to be stemmed from confusion and disorientation. Its eyes dart around the room, almost as if it's trying to focus on something that isn't there. The cat seems to be struggling with something, its muscles tensed and its movements jerky.
Its strange behavior is certainly indicative of something out of the ordinary. Perhaps the cat is under some sort of influence? But you're not sure what.
"It seems to be under some sort of influence. It is watching something, reacting to something that I cannot see. Does anyone have mastery of a spell that can dispel magical effects, or see invisible creatures? I will try something..."
Daphyra casts detect evil and good on herself to try and see if anything is attempting to control the cat.
On a hunch, hoping she won't regret it, she casts resistance on the cat.
Daphyra casts her detection spell, but could not detect any other planar beings around her.
She casts Resistance on the cat. The spell takes effect quickly, and the cat lets out a soft meow, its ears flattening against its head in surprise. It’s been a few minutes since the chaos outside, and the cat seems to be slowly returning to normal. The cat stands up and begins to circle around Daphyra's legs, rubbing its body affectionately against her calf.
Kerra was about to say something snarky to Slick along the lines of "see, all done, no time wasted" when the group decided to stick around longer and get to the bottom of the cat's troubles. Unable to anyhow help in the situation, Kerra simply sat by the wall, watching Daphyra and Felix making their magic.
The crowd is gone by now, but you do remember hearing bits and pieces of conversation about the strange behavior of the cats in the Perfume District. People seemed to be discussing a number of peculiar incidents of cats acting oddly in the area.
Daphyra:
The cat’s ears lay flat against its head, understanding your question. It paces around you and suddenly flops down on the ground, seemingly lazy and uninterested. But just as quickly, it jumps back up, its eyes scanning the room anxiously. Finally, it shakes its head, a gesture that seems to signify confusion and bewilderment. You understand that the cat is trying to convey that it had experienced a sudden change in its behavior, something beyond its control, and it doesn't know what caused it.
Daphyra shakes her head sadly. She says to the cat "You poor thing, under the control of some dastardly being! If you feel like something similar starts to happen again, try to alert the acolytes here." She lands a beady eye on the two hapless acolytes. "The acolytes will be keeping an extra close eye on all the Temple cats, won't they?" she says meaningfully at them. "Has anything like this happened to any of the other cats?"
The two acolytes look at each other nervously, and Nadia speaks up, "We'll keep a closer eye on it, priestess. We'll make sure it’s safe from any harm that comes its way."
At Daphyra’s question, the two acolytes seem confused, but it's Fatima who finally recalls something. "Oh, I haven't seen the cats in other temples. But this afternoon, while I was out shopping for the evening meal, I noticed a group of cats meowing excessively and running around in circles on the street. It was quite odd."
Nadia chimes in, her brow furrowed in worry, "Yes, and just earlier today, Mrs. Al-Harbi came by, looking for her missing cat. She said it just ran away, and she was very worried. I don't know if she's found it yet."
"Where was it on the street?" Unceremoniously intercepted Kerra. Even without an understanding of magic, one can make a connection between the missing jewel and mad cats.
Daphyra looks serious. "Yes, whoever has the Eye is perhaps experimenting with its use. We had best find it quickly or who knows what might happen!"
She turns to the acolytes. "I thank you for your information and for your service thus far. Someone is attempting to control these cats magically. If any of the Temple cats are affected, they have better chance than most of shaking off the control if you are able to pray for the Goddess's Resistance for them. Go in the Goddess's peace."
“It was on the Aroma Street.” Fatima answers, her eyes still troubled as she recalls the strange behavior of the cats on Aroma Street. "It's a busy street, with lots of vendors selling spices and perfumes. But it also leads to the less savory parts of the district."
“We'll do everything in our power to ensure the safety of the Temple cat," Nadia assures Daphyra and the group. “Thanks again to all of you for helping.”
With a bow, both acolytes return to their duties. Slick is outside the temple, waiting for you to come out impatiently. “Finally,” he says, “Now we can get this Raheed business over with.”
Kerra was the first one to leave the Temple once it was confirmed the cats were getting crazy on Aroma street. "Can't wait." She nodded to Slick. "The apothecary should be near already, right?" She looked in the direction the group was walking before they all stumbled over the "cat situation" in search of the Festering Heth. The fact that the cat was agitated so close to the establishment sort of confirmed Raheed (and the Eye) were there.
He holds his spellbook firmly and starts to walk with Kerra. "I agree, time to move ! ". A weird sensation tickles Felix fingers, as if his spellbook agreed with him.
The temple cat rubs its body against Daphyra and meows as a goodbye. As you step out of the temple's grounds, Daphyra notices the same street cats that were following them before are still lurking nearby, their eyes fixed on the group.
Thankfully, the destination, Festering Heth's, is not too far away. As the group approach the apothecary, you see an imposing ship's mast jut out from a two-story building, reaching up to the lower floor of the apothecary, where balconies hang precariously over the street below. The apothecary's sign swings back and forth in the wind, its letters fading and peeling from years of neglect. An iron ladder leads up to the entrance of Heth's Apothecary on top of the two-story building.
Kerra approached the building, carefully scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger or suspicious activity. (Perception: 19 ) It would be strange to run into an activated trap in the middle of the day (even in that shady part of the District) but caution always pays. If nothing caught her eye, the cat girl climbed the stairs - as softly as her paws allowed - and opened the door.

Tasmara walks beside Slick, glancing up at their less than voluntary assistant. While it is probably a wasted effort she does offer him a charming smile. "Any information you can give us on Heth himself? Believe me we can be grateful."
