Miawynn replies back to Alcazar, "While I don't disagree with your statement you clearly haven't been around enough nocturnal animals or the glowing mushroom and moon blooming flowers."Ewock who is sitting on her shoulder looks at her in disappointment as her comments sounded harsh to the little squirrel. "What?" She says to Ewock. "We can go to the Arboretum first! There might be some nuts or fruits around." She says in a teasing tone to get the squirrel of her case.
Paartusays, "Thank you for letting us know. If you see them, please tell our friends where we have gone" to Gutboy and follows the others in search of a room.
Jinx watches Miawynn follow Alcazar with some disappointment and surprise. Why would she want to spend alone time with such a strange and obviously noble-born man, however down-on-his-luck his appearance seems to imply? The little gnome shakes her head. She'll never understand the fascination some people seem to have with the nobility. Jinx knows they excrete just like anyone else, and usually their excrement ends up raining down on poorer folks' heads, literally.
The gnome gets up to follow Nepharios, Sylvie, and Paartu in finding a room. "Bye, Gutboy! Nice to meet ya," she says over her shoulder.
Four members of the newly formed Pale Hand look for a place to call their own in this unfamiliar academy.
They find a room with two rows of four beds. There will be enough space for everyone in the Pale Hand, with two extra beds. Windows in the walls provide light, but candles are placed into fixtures on the walls, which will provide dim lighting once the sun sets.
@Alaczar and Miawynn
Alaczar and Miawynn decide they want to go exploring and head in the direction of the arboretum. However, just outside the exit of the dorms, they find a half-orc standing just off the main path. There is a look of authority about him, but he hasn't spotted either of them. Instead, his attention is drawn to another student, "You there! The headmaster has told everyone to go to their rooms. Return to the dorms at once!"

As they find the free room, the young noble marches over to the bed farthest away from the door and places his gear there, doing some light unpacking and trying to make himself comfortable, pulling up a large black tome from his backpack, putting it by the bed, then turning to look a bit nervously to Sylvie to see what will happen with the mentioned festivity.
Once they find an empty room suitable for them, Sylvie stands in the center of the room, taking in the space. She hums quietly to herself for a few moments, as she looks at what the space currently has to offer.
"Guess they're wanting us to study in the library?" She wonders aloud, finally picking a bed closer to the door. "Enough room to relax, at least!"

"Wow, not too shabby!" exclaims Jinx as she takes in the spacious room. It's nicer than anywhere she has slept thus far. She races over to one of the bunk beds and climbs to the top bunk. "I call this one!"
From her perch on top of the bunk bed, she looks down at the others. "Studying? Oh crap, do we already have homework? How did I miss that?"

(( @DM: Just checking -- dining hall is in dorms? Are there other rooms in the dorms of which we do/don't know the function? ))
With a glance at Miawynn, Alcazar shrugs. "Let's see what the rules are."
He walks up to the half-orc, "Good evening kind sir. I find myself more in need of fresh air than of sleep...where is it permitted to go in the evenings? The commons? The library? Or perhaps just a stroll around the grounds?"
(Yes, the refectory, or dining hall, is in the dorms.)
The half-orc turns to the student approaching him, "Well, you can't go to the library at this time of night; that building's locked down for the night. We can't just let students wander around at night either. I'm afraid you'll have to just stick to the dorms."

"Not even a brief walk under the stars with my friend here?" He turns and looks toward Miawynn with a smile, pointing at her. She hears a whisper from Alcazar, "Please take no offense, play along if you are willing. I understand if not."
He turns back to the half-orc, eyebrows raised.
(( Persuasion/Deception: 21 in log, if relevant ))
Paartuwalks into the room, completely indifferent to the beds but happy that his companions are happy with it. He drops a few things at the foot of one bed turns around and says, "Now we can have the party, yes? I'll start." And then he sings. It is quite loud, very deep, and sounds like it happens primarily in the back of his throat. You can tell that there are words although you don't understand them (unless you understand Primordial). It isn't exactly unpleasant, but it begins to grate on your ears after a few seconds. The song lasts about 5 minutes. Afterward, Paartusays, "I am quite thirsty. Does anyone know where I could find something to drink?"
Nepharios chuckles at the gnome's comment about homework. He then lies down on his bed by the window and tries his best to enjoy the singing of the tortle while opening his black tome to read some. Maybe the others were better singers, one could certainly hope so. "I believe drinks are found at the refectory, but also, this is when we're supposed to be resting and to prepare for tomorrow." He answers Paartu, not looking up from his book.
Miaywnn gives Alcazar a look of unpleasantness, and a slight smile to the half orc. She responds begrudgingly "Right.... I'm getting tired anyways" She turns to Alcazar and whispers "I want fresh air as much as you but I cannot risk getting into any trouble here." She says even softer "I'm sorry"
When she gets back to the room she sees (potentially unless someone has claimed it) an open spot under Jinx and climbs into bed with out saying a word. Ewock scrambles around in the bed burring nuts in different parts of the cushions. He even climbs up to Jinx's bed and places on under her pillow. As he climbs back down she can hear Miawynn say "Ewock, we don't know them! You can't just stash food in their stuff. Plus who wants to sleep on an acorn...."
When Paartu finishes singing, Jinx claps. She knows absolutely nothing about music, and the number of musical performances she's seen she could count on one hand, and this one was by far the best. When the tortle is finished, the gnome looks uncharacteristically shy as she contemplates singing something as well. Finally, she gathers up the courage and clears her throat.
"A gnome named Lucky Granitefist taught me this one," she says by way of introduction. Then she launches into a rousing rendition of a tavern song, which is quite raunchy. She tries her best, but her voice isn't quite on pitch. It's not a terrible performance, but she won't be getting invited to the Bard's College anytime soon either.
When she lays down to go to sleep, she notices Ewock climb up to her bed and deposits an acorn under her pillow. Jinx is delighted by this. "Thank you, Ewock," she whispers. "I'll keep this safe for you."
As Miaywnn retreats, Alcazar gives a nod and a slight bow before turning back to the half-orc. "Now see what you've done?" he says, his theatrical tone takes any edge off the words. "I definitely need a walk to clear my head. What do you say -- I'll be quick?"
(( Edit: Prior persuasion/deception roll did not assume advantage ))
Paartu hoots loudly after Jinx’s song, finding it exceptional. He says, “What a tremendous song! I wouldn’t have thought it possible to do that with a river trout.”
The young noble squirms in his bed, seeming quite uncomfortable with the raunchiness of Jinx's tavern song. How inappropriate. Why would no one sing an aria from one of the great classical operas Nepharios wondered as he kept reading his black tome.
No doubt to Nepharios's dismay, Sylvie did not know any such arias. After listening to the last two songs- finding them not terrible- and thinking upon a song to sing, the former sailor sits up on her bed. With a snap of her fingers, she claims, "Thought of a good one!"
The half-elf started to stomp a foot against the floor, using it to set her own tempo. After a few moments, she begins singing a shanty. Instead of one of the many more raunchy ones, she decided to avoid stepping on the toes of Jinx's song, and sung one about new voyages and a hope for gold. While her vocal range was higher than what was usually expected for a shanty, she keeps to her own beat and pitch well. When she finishes, Sylvie beamed at the rest of the Pale Hand. "Hopefully we'll get a bit of good luck since we've gotten our opening songs out've the way." ((Performance in the game log: 22))

Alcazar nods and gives a low bow with a slight flourish, "You are my saviour, kind sir! I shall return imminently."
With that he sets off doing a circuit of the outer area of the commons, gazing briefly at each building as he goes, looking for things unmarked on the map. Nothing detailed, just trying to get a feel for what is in the area -- and what's unknown. He also takes not of any building that seem to be busy.
He tries to time his journey so that he arrives back a minute or two before his deadline. As he returns to the half-orc he waves and approaches. Drawing a deep breath he holds out his hand, "I apologise for not introducing myself earlier: Alcazar's the name. And please do not worry about tiredness on the morrow, I am quite resilient. I must ask, though: I require little sleep, is there much to do here of an evening? At a pinch, I could make do with the library, but books can become dull companions quickly."
