Maz takes the gold and a smile grows on his face. The silence of the voices has him feeling like himself for the moment.
“are there any taverns near by for food and perhaps a rest before we take our leave?” He says fiddling with his instruments. “I’d also like to ask around to see if anyone here knows about that… special instrument.. I’ve been hearing about.”
The party heads down the road towards the main intersection. Asking a near by guard where the taverns are located he gives the group a few options.
The docks has a large tavern frequented by sailors and the more shady type bit it's safe enough during the day. Best know for its cheep ale and easy... company.
The square also has a tavern that the merchants use. It's of higher quality and is the best place to find a caravan captain.
There are a few other smaller taverns in the residential district but most are not open this early.
“Let’s go to the fancy one shall we? After all..” he holds up the new gold, “we earned it!” The smile on his face feels warm for the first time in a while.
Maz grabs his pan flute from his hip and jaunts over to the tavern.
once he and the rest of the group arrive he would strike up conversation with the tavern keep and tender for ale, food, and place to rest there heads. He’d also inquire about playing a few medleys for the crowd.
The party walks into the Tavern. It's a large open area with a second and thrid story. The main room has a dozen or so tables. 1 wall has a stage, 1 a bar and a door you assume leads to the kitchen and the last wall has booths for people to sit.
There is only a few people in the tavern and a bard setting up on the stage.
When you walk In a bar maid yells you to sit any where.
Maz you walk up to the bar and ask your questions.
Bar keep: Rooms are 5 gold a night. Includes breakfast. You can order drinks and food from the bar maid. We got a bard already but you can see if they want to do a split set.
After sitting down the bar maid walks up.
Good afternoon gentlemen. The special is Sea Bass with roasted potatoes. We have 2 for 1 Dwarven ale till 5 and we just got in a fresh cask of Orcish wine from the warsong mountains. What van I get for you?
With a grin Maz orders two ale and saunters over to the other bard to inquire about stealing the stage for a song or two. He gives the second stout of ale he ordered to the other bard as a sign of appreciation.
Marley orders a Dwarven ale and the sea bass with potatoes, also thanking the bar maid. When his ale arrives he sits back and sips it slowly, waiting for the music to start.
Maz the bard let's you warm up with a fee songs as you play for the mostly empty tavern. As the afternoon starts to come to a close more people start to come into the Tavern. Eventually the bard let's you know it's time to start the show.
You two are set up in a dealing pianos bar style set up. Working together to put on a show. After a bit and night has set on the bard takes center stage.
Ladies and gentlemen I hope you are enjoying our show. Me and my friend here have a special treat for you. We will be head to head in a few soungs you choose. Can I get some suggestions from the crowd.
songs are shouted out and he chooses 3 classic sonhs you know well.
well i hope you enjoy! Giving Maz a nod you start your battle of the bards.
Maz roll me 3 Performance checks. And describe if you with how you play up each song.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Maz gives a slight bow and begins to play the songs as requested.
Performance: 16
he plays the first song timidly. As he plays and kicks off rust and feels the freedom of music his tempo rises.
performance: 9
he rolls nimbly into the second song. Not missing a beat he deftly plays each note with passion.
performance: 18
As he loops into the final song in the set Maz bares all. His fingers fly as he his note after note in rhythm. He dances across the stage and dazzles the crowd with twists and turns of his body. All the while he never missteps or misses a key.
he finishes his set of three songs sweaty but feeling like himself as he soaks in the crowd.
Marley slowly nurses his ale as he enjoys the show, loudly cheering for Maz in between songs. His mind begins to drift as he takes in the catchy melodies, going over the day's events, especially the battle at the arena. Watching Maz perform he wonders, could he be recovered now? Or is the dagger just temporarily satiated... Probably the latter, he decides.
"Drink up, my friends..." he says to Sam and Crunch with his mug of ale raised in toast. He then adds with a sigh, "We may need more gold than today's winnings to heal our friend once we get to Norend."
Maz you quickly win over the crowd. The bard is easly out played by you and by the end of the third song he simply dips his hat and collects the gold and leaves the stage for you.
The rest of the party at the table sees a familiar face walk over and sit down.
Mickey Klaus smiles at you all.
"My friends I know it's only been a Few weeks but it feels like I've not seen you in ages. I'm glad you caught up cause frankly I'm in need of your help. But before all that how have you been? Glad to see the thing with the Mayor did not hold you up long"

(It was the pipes of the sewers, right? That combined with a bag of endless rats…hmm)
If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
"Yes, a tavern would be good..." Marley smiles, happy to see Maz seems in good spirits.

"Indeed," Marley agrees with a grin. "And if fortune favors us we can find a caravan to Norend there as well eh?"

The bar maid raises an eye brow then nods and walks away. You hear her yell at the kitchen.
"Got some big eaters looking for the feat."
She returns with a bottle of orcish wine and a loaf of bread.
"Alright dears enjoy your food will be out soon"
Maz the bard accepts the ale.
"Not one to share the lime light but if you want to do a battle of the bands I could be persuaded. I get 20% of your tips though. What you say?"
"Thank you" Sam replies.

“Aye!” Maz chuckles “20% is steep but I’m just looking to play so I’ll accept the price.”
The food comes and everyone sits down to a feast.
