Iali nods at the request for light. She casts Light on the tip of her rapier and holds it out like a torch. She is aware this will make her a target, so she is ready to drop the spell if she sees or hears movement.
She looks around the room. Does she notice anything about the magic mirror in the pool, or the dummy? (Arcana 25)
Val senses stretched her senses and heard no movement and the usual smells from the last time she was here. The smell of lake water and the foul odor from the taxidermy room.
Iali nods at the request for light. She casts Light on the tip of her rapier and holds it out like a torch....
Valrieth thanks Iali for the light. Her whiskers twitch nervously, but she finally says, "I don't hear anything moving. It's strange, almost like the hut is empty, but I cannot believe that she has left. I mean, look at this place." Val gestures at all of the detritus around the room and particularly at the plates and half-eaten food. "This looks like the home of someone who hasn't stepped outside in month...maybe years. I guess the hag must be hiding somewhere, probably upstairs, waiting to pounce."
Does she notice anything about the magic mirror in the pool, or the dummy? (Arcana 25)
Val can help fill in some details for her: "I learned that the mirror is a magical portal with the command phrase 'Bandersnatch'. When opened, it leads to the Witchlight Carnival. I suppose the hag could have fled to the carnival, but if she did, I cannot follower her there. I made a Fey Bargain, and I cannot leave Prismeer until Bavlorna dies."
Val briefly explains the deal between Mr. Witch and Mr. Light and the Hourglass Coven here in Prismeer and how Bavlorna used the mirror to kidnap children from the carnival to work in her sister's toyshop of vile and dangerous toys. "Of course, that was before my former companions and I rescued the children and killed Granny Nightshade, reducing that awful toyshop to a heap of broken lumber and rubble."
Val points out the dressing dummies in the corner. She says, "The dummies are just regular dummies for a seamstress, but the hat that one of them wears is magical in some way. We had planned to come back to find out more about it later, but we never did."
His gaze stops at the pool. "Do you think it was like one of those plants that eats curious bugs?"His eyes widen a bit as he imagines the scenario.
(OOC: With proficiency in Nature, I'll assume that Val knows what he's referring to.)
"What?!", Val asks, surprised by the question. "Like a giant 'flytrap'? No. At least, I don't think so. One of my friends, Aoife, tried to drag the lilypad out of the pool, and it didn't budge. Everything else in this hut that can move tried to kill us (other than the cook, a Red Cap named Bloody Toes)."
After a brief moment he shakes his head and looks for a way out, "Which way should we go?"
Val thinks for a moment and then says, "The important thing is to find and defeat the hag. If she's still here, she'll be upstairs." She points to the staircase in the northeast corner of the room. "She'll probably be waiting for me in her sitting room, which is just off of the stairs, or in her bedroom above that room." But Val does not move toward the stairs. She looks around nervously and says, "But if she is waiting for us, why hasn't she sent her Lornlings to bring us to her? Maybe she's keeping all of them with her, waiting to ambush us at the top of the stairs." Val again emphasizes how deadly fast the Lornlings are.
Before they head upstairs, Val suggests opening the trap door at the south end of the pool "in case we need a quick escape later."
