The mind flayer gasps as he dies "You forget your place, but you will be reminded."
The duergar is still there
The arrow missed him. While not directly controlled by the mind flayer anymore, the duergar remains hostile and violent. You'd be aware of this given the fact that you are a rrakma, a mind flayer hunting party.

Did it die before my turn?
The mind flayer did. As I recall the arrow missed the duergar, (AC18) which I presumed was the target.
The duergar falls upon the corpse of his former master, the madness that overtook him leaving a grotesque impression upon his fave in his final moments.
As you enter the room the woman in plate armor calls to you at the top of her voice (if you're within 10ft of her you can hear what she's saying). "Good show! Those things are all over the temple. I took out one, but there are too many. We were overwhelmed. I ran and ran, but the winds changed when I crossed a hallway. I fell into thus room and I've been looking for a way out, but with no light, it seems hopeless."
You see a hole in the ceiling where she claims to have fallen from. To the 'west' (based on map orientation) you see there is a hallway with a floor that opens into a chasm, preventing easy passage.
You might wonder why she's here in the first place. You definitely notice the sulfurous odor in the room. You're probably on edge because you're hunting mind flayers in the howling halls of the temple of madness in Pandemonium with the fate of your race and maybe even the universe hanging in the balance.
The woman, herself, seems utterly sincere, however.
The woman replies, "I learned of this place from a Talossan cleric here after the fiend performed a profane rite known as the calling down kf thu der, sacrificing an innocent child from my village. I found the girl, but it was too late. But that's not the worst of it. From him, we learned of The Circle of Rust and the Worm: a cabal of insane sages and mystics of various disciplines with the aim of destroying the world. We made our way to Pandesmos, a story in its own right, only to find the priests dead and the no trace of chaos knights. Instead, those things, like the one that followed you, were scouring the temple, looking for I know not what. I fear all my companions lost. When I was separated from the others, only myself, and a cleric of Denier and one other powerful ally still stood."
