As the doors are pushed open a long hallway, three men high and 2 men wide disappears into the darkness. A couple paces away the first of several alcoves open on either side of the long hall. As your torch light dims to shadow you can see more alcoves in the tunnel ahead. Statues in military poses are nestled inside each one.
Of more pressing concern though are the shadowed figures disappearing into utter darkness down the long hall...
At the entrance, Kasimyr considers his options and waits for a response. The guard, even more nervous now with the giant doors open, whispers a few words to him.
I'm going to be re-reading all of your posts from last night and figuring out what order you've lined up in and making sure I dont miss anything. It seems like Kimo is taking up the back, and Colm would prefer to be there as well. Brade and Kiana closer to the front. That leaves Ali and Kasimyr somewhere in the middle. In a 10' wide hallway Im thinking...
"It probably wouldn't be safe to rest here tonight without checking this out anyway. Who were those shadowy figures retreating from us? My guess is they're not friendly. Be on your guard."
He will advance cautiously but steadily, sparing a glance for each pair of alcoves as he comes to them. His shield is stowed on his back now so that he can more easily hold a torch, and he draws his longsword.
Kiana puts her hand on her mace (and her other hand on her dagger, but more discretely), and goes through the hallway alongside Brade.

Kiana passed her torch to Brade after he finished stowing her shield and drew his longsword, and then the two of them led the group deeper into the heart of the hill. With nervous eyes they passed the first set of alcoves - long worn statues, defaced and damaged, flanked them on either side but nothing moved.
The druid and the ranger were next, straining their necks past Brade's torch as they too looked into the darkness for signs of danger. The shapes they had briefly glimpsed as they pulled the door open were long gone - if they had ever existed at all.
Kimo and the bard then were left to bring up the rear - a task both seemed perfectly content to perform, and Colm chanced one final look at the less brave among them who had decided to stay with the horses and wagon.
For all of them the sound of dripping water spoke of the ferocity of the storm outside, and the relentless rain. Strangely, some of you think you might actually hear it louder up ahead of you.
"On second thought... why don't you give me that torch back, Brade. I have a feeling that your need for a shield will outweigh my need for two idle hands."
Kiana takes the torch back from Brade (assuming he is willing), and marches onward down the hall.

"Of course, your holiness," says Brade deferentially, and hands back the torch, then takes a moment to get his shield ready. "I will, of course, agree-ist with thine directions."
A few more nervous words passed between your recently formed group as you continue into the hall. Every few paces another set of alcoves, each with a simple warrior's statue, flank the walls. They are otherwise uninteresting. Here and there some have signs of wear or damage, but it is their abstract shapes that make looking at them for very long difficult.
Wisps of cobwebs cling to the hard edges and corners here. Kasimyr touched Kiana on the shoulder to get her attention, and after he motioned to the ceiling she momentarily raised her torch, forcing you all to raise your gaze. Above you, amidst the occasional strands of cobwebs, lay an otherwise uninteresting arched ceiling. No signs of deadly blades waiting to cut you in half or dangerous foe lurking in the shadows could be seen.
You returned your eyes to the hall in front of you, and taking a few more paces, at last started to relax.
Thats when the first arrow whizzed below Brade's shield and stabbed into his thigh. (Hit AC 23 for 8 points of damage). As he dropped his guard and recoiled another arrow stabbed deep into his shoulder, nearly coming out the other side (Nat 20 AC 24 for 11 damage). He barely had time to cry out before he crumpled to the floor.
Two more arrows wizzed by the group as some unseen forces attack you from the darkness ahead, but clattered harmlessly off nearby walls and statues.

Holy crap. Your foes, who can clearly see you with your torches have gotten the drop on you. As previously discussed I'll intersperse their attacks between your initiative order to kind of space things out and keep combat flowing.
Also, Sorry Brade. I always hate to see someone have to sit out combat, especially when its the FIRST FREAKIN COMBAT. #%$!$#$ZS%
At the moment none of you can see an enemy, even in the far dim light of your torches. They are therefore further than 40 feet away from the front line

Hearing the door open, Kasymir turns around and approaches. "Well, we've gone and done it now," he say.
He takes up a position in the middle and notches and arrow. "I suppose we are going ahead."
