You continue through the darkening forest. Your small firelight guiding you. Angalor mumbles at you to not go too far, but he is too preoccupied to notice you leave.
The first of your father's tracks are easily followed. But after about half a mile you start to lose them. Soon, you have to make a choice. There appear to be a set of tracks leading in three directions.
One heads father to the north, towards the mountains.
(Oh decisions decisions) Saradie thinks, the tracks to the river are perhaps the safest route less likely to become lost, the trail heading to the mountains could be dangerous lots of hidden places that way, the eastern path is a mystery. She chooses the tracks leading toward the river. Then we’re going back for some food, dad's probably heading back already.
She really likes her new talent and watches the flame hover regardless of her hands position, this is cool.
The fire dances between your hands with ease, it's starting to feel like an extension of your arm. You find that you can make it surge and even make it rise a couple of inches off your hand. You feel that if you wanted, you could launch it completely from your hand.
But before you can try it out you hear the rush of the nearby river. Looking up you can see it just beyond the tree line, and something else...
Several of the trees have deep claw marks carved into them. A strong odor permeates the air. Looking around you see what looks like a large nest in one of the tree tops. What's more, the vegetation in the area looks chewed and trampled on.
Saradie’s heart starts pounding she squats down as slowly and quietly as possible eyes wide open she struggles to relax and listen staying as hidden as possible. If the wind is at her back she will crawl towards the water if not she will stay put alert and ready to fight.
The wind is not on your side this day as you plant yourself in the clearing (stealth check, again +2 for now). Your instinct are going wild as the hair on your neck stands on end. To your left, twigs crunch and grass rustles as something approaches...
Despite your best efforts, the spot you chose to hide is not ideal. The trampled foliage offers little coverage as you see a black bear come wandering into the clearing. It sniffs the air and almost instantly hones in on your position.
It lets out a low roar and comes charging through the clearing to where you are squatting down. You only have a moment to react before it is upon you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(haha, yeah I've been enjoying it too XD)
Fire explodes out of your hand and slams the bear in it's shoulder. It growls in pain and slows its advance, but it does not stop. While it definitely did damage, it was not enough to scare it away.
It pounds its way up next to you, rearing up on its hind legs, and swings down with one mighty claw.
The Claw cuts deep into your chest (were gonna just use the ac of the armor you're wearing for now, so leather at AC 11) tearing away at your leather vest.
You reel back as blood stains your clothes. You are very hurt, but not out of the fight yet. The bear roars down at you, its bloody claws ready to strike once more.
(8 HP?! Damnnn...Hmmmm, interesting. This is not how I expected this to go but lets see how it plays out. Roll me some death saves, lets say 3 to start, and then I'll see what I do)
Your vision starts to go black as blood pools around you. The bear continues roaring, but the sound starts to fade out.
Finally, you fall back, it seems to happen in slow motion. You barely feel the ground when you land, and the last thing you see before everything goes dark, is the first star starting to shine through the purple haze of the setting sun...
You don't know how long you lay there, in the clearing. Your head is ablaze with visions of family, friends, your home, and fire...lots of fire. The crackling grows louder and louder in your mind until you fell like you are going mad. But then the crackling subsides, replaced by the hooting of a nearby owl.
Suddenly, your eyes flicker open. A crisp night sky greets you. Your body aches all over, especially around your chest, but otherwise you feel normal. In fact, you are surprised to find you can move.
Slitting up you see the clearing is empty and dark. If you touch around your chest area, you can feel an stinky, oily substance is covering it.
"That was a close call. I thought you were going to die for sure..."
The voice is nearby, but you don't see where it is coming from.
“Who’s there, where am I? What’s that smell? Where’s my dad?” Just a hint of panic in Saradie’s voice. She opens her eyes, rubs away some crud. Checks herself over, honestly surprised to be alive.
"You are safe young one, and you are in the same place you were before. Minus one bear of course."
You hear movement as the voice shifts positions.
"That smell is a light healing salve that I applied to your wound. It's not much, but it'll help get you back on your feet quicker."
"As to my name, for now you can call me L. Sorry for all the secrecy, but you can't be too careful nowadays. I don't know who your father is, much less where he is. But I did notice some men moving toward the east just the other day, would he be one of them?"
“I-I don’t know. I wandered away from them and got a little turned around. I remember the bear, I stood my ground was gonna play dead... I thought I was. L I’m grateful to you for my life. My dad must be so worried.” (Insight for Ls interactions so far?)
"No need to thank me. really you did most of the work, all I did was scare the bear away. By the time I reached you, you were already stable. Seems you are hardier than you think."
"Oh yes, I'm sure your father is quite worried, I would be too if my daughter had wandered off into the woods on her own. Especially with all these strange whisperings going about."
