The rest of the world fades away, L's voice can be heard in the background. Slowly, your vision adjusts and you get an image of the kitchen.
There is L, toiling away at the pot, humming softly to herself. You appear to be floating just above her and have a good view of the cauldron.
"Hmmm, hoho, heehee, two in the pot for me.
Haha, hohee, oh what glee.
Now here's one for Saradie..."
The song repeats several times, and as she does so she adds different unusual ingredients. The nail of a newt, the legs of a frog, and the eyes of a cat.
She seems not to notice your intrusion and keeps at her work. After she is finished adding to the pot. She moves to the sitting area and starts laying out carving tools. Then out of nowhere she starts talking to herself.
"Ahhh, yes, soon as she is back I will make her a splendid tool, heehehee."
Saradie, this is not L. The closer you watch, the more you see the unusual movements, the exaggerated way in which she is speaking, and the viewing angle is all wrong.
You aren't sure how, but this is some kind of illusion being put on, clearly staged for your benefit. Unfortunately, from where your vision is fixed, you cannot see the real L anywhere in sight.
The fake L continues to do menial tasks, all the while spouting nonsensical rhymes and unnecessary descriptions.
(nice, hmmmmmm, I will say that since it was for detecting an illusion, you don't find the tree yet. But a nat 20 still deserves some more. You get some new information)
Saradie, you come out of your trance and back into the wasteland. After uncovering L's ruse, your mind is on high alert. You can feel your senses are at their peak, and as you look around you notice something new.
Not the tree, but dark clouds, off to the Northeast. They are faint, but it looks as if they are condescending around a specific area.
(lol, nice twist on the rhythm, take an inspiration)
Your journey continues deeper into the burned lands, all the while your trail grows longer behind you. Soon the air starts to feel dryer, and hotter, to the point that breathing is becoming difficult. Yet you know you are getting closer to your goal. Finally, you crest a final cracked hill and you come upon a grove of blackened trees in a small valley. They continuously spout embers that fly up, darkening the sky above them.
Amongst the soot and ash, you see tiny white creatures and tiny black creatures flying in circles. They almost look to be playing. So far they do not appear to have noticed you.
(mmmmmm, disengage won't do much in this situation, if you are trying to avoid them I will need a new stealth check, but I'll give you advantage since they are distracted)
The creatures continue their game, not noticing as you make your approach.
Under the cover of the billowing smoke you get right up next to one of the still smoldering trees. You notice there are no broken branches or twigs laying around the tree. The heat coming off of it is enough to make you sweat as if you were near a campfire.

Just curious if the image looks like L. Saradie gets up brushes away the dust and continues the search.
(Investigation check please)

Well I’ll be a bullywugs tadpole that L is truly a step ahead of me... OOC sad with that roll I thought I’d found my tree.
Onward into the thirsty waste it must be here somewhere.
(real quick, was that a nat 20? I'm currently out and about and using my phone so I can't see the details on it)
It was a nat 20

Saradie hums to herself, “a little for L a lot more for me, I’m gonna get you just wait and see...” as she heads out to see what’s going on...
As she goes she will use mold earth to mark her trail coloring and excavating as she goes.

Saradie waits for a short bit then using disengage attempts to move right through them and continue onward.

Use mold earth to excavate the tree
(the whole tree?! :O)
Just so I can take the best part.
Heartwood from the core.
(ooooooo, I like it. Cool, then let me get a roll to see how well you do at that. Use your spell ability modifier)
