They think for a moment, then wonder aloud, "Perhaps the maintenance personnel have some technical manuals they could be persuaded to allow me to study?"

He looked around and whispered: "Keep eyes on the package. with the amount of gold we were paid, it is bound to attract danger." He moved away from the group next to a post and leaned himself looking towards the person with the box. keeping himself close enough that he can reach them quickly.

Eris will stick close to the package and keep an eye on it. 

As the five of you look around, you see the following things: 

to the Right on the train tracks, you look and see a young woman, desperately, almost theatrically trying to push a wooden crate back off the tracks, but having a very hard time doing so. 

Next to the outer wall of the city rests a shady-looking camel merchant, alongside three camels.

From the wall, you can faintly hear whistling sounds, as a guard sits atop, moving to and fro fanatically, looking at the travellers. There is a look of dreaminess and sadness to his face, as he looks straight at you. "Hey you! Think you can help me?" He asks you.

The guard shrugs and resumes his beat back and forth on the wall. 

Does Eris see anyone paying attention to him and the package?

Not anything real close except for the camel merchant. 
As Eris looks around, a man with red eyes and a flushed face rushes towards him, his hands shaken. He attempts to scream, but all that comes out is but a whisper. "Help me, please!" He then begins to run back to where he came from, rushing to the alley behind the train station.

What do you do?

[If there's an image of it on the internet somewhere, you should be able to grab its URL (in Chrome, right-click and Copy image address) and paste that into the Source of the Insert image toolbar button in the post editor. If there's not already an image on the internet, you could upload it to a free image host like imgur and then do the same thing.

(I've been known to be fancy and use a Google Drawing as a bargain-basement VTT, but I am a Trained Professional in Computer so that might not be for everyone...)]

Jared is still trying to ignore people asking for help when he is currently on a job.

He can't help trying to discern if a person is trying to deceive them or not, however.

He stays put and keeps an eye on the package and his surroundings. 

"I expect we have a sufficient interval before the locomotive arrives, we should render assistance where possible," Jedri starts toward the alley.
