I believe you, the dice roller does the same thing to me sometimes. As the two of you pick the box up and carry it off the tracks, Ember notices a hand reach through a small hole in it and slip into Jedri’s pocket and remove his coin pouch (or whatever he Carries his money in)

If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
Having not noticed their coin pouch being lifted, only Ember seeming to throw the box to the ground, Jedri starts to yell at the kobold, "Hey, what's the big ide—" before catching themselves and amending, "Ahem, I mean, excuse me, has some difficulty arisen?"
He looks a the group and says "You know I'm no good with these things. Remember when I tried to open that box near Farmer Browns old place and it exploded on us. No way. Now, who's going to open it?" He grins and settles back to watch.
Jared sighed and shook his head. He had been focused on keeping their charge from getting stolen as chaos erupted all over them. "I cant open anything with all thumbs." He then started talking louder. "But I can slice it in half and we can see who is inside."
[Jedri doesn't have thieve's tools, but does have a crowbar and proficiency with thinker's tools, so if it comes to forcing the box open would probably go for any visible hinges or joints rather than the lock. However, picking up on Jared's approach:]
Noticing that their pouch is indeed missing, Jedri addresses both the voice from inside the box and the person who was "struggling" with it. "Apologies," (with no hint of actual apology in their tone,) "but I will require the repatriation of my property." They tilt their head as if listening to a faint sound. "Alternatively, we could simply ensure you remain here on the tracks; I believe I hear the locomotive approaching..."
Dang.
