Ironmaiden gives a solid nod of appreciation to Corlith at his speech, she then produces another flame in hand and lifts it to head height helping Reed light the way as she follows him down the stairs.
Finally moving on from Klim, the group follow Reed South up the stairs out of the dank water. Leaving the torches on the walls behind, the ones without darkvision are grateful to Reed for his lantern and Archie for her flame.
As they get to the top of the stairs, they find a slightly ajar door a few feet in front of them. After pausing a moment at it, listening and looking around for any traps, they deem it passable and continue through.
Immediately to the right there is a dark passage and then forward the tunnel curves around to the left. After a quick peek around that corner, you see a door to the South off of it and the tunnel you’re in ends in stairs going up.
"By the way, I didn't volunteer to be a Flaming Fist," Reed says. "I was strongly encouraged to do so. The alternative was to spend my time in Baldur's Gate as guests of the Flaming Fist. Or was it prisoner. They spoke very quickly."
He nods towards the open passage way.
"This way?" Reed suggests.
Reed moves down the left passage to get a better look at what lies ahead.
Roo slowly starts to walk from the room in what can only be described as a funeral procession in step behind Reed. He looks over his shoulder once, at Klim, and swipes his thumb across his neck.
"If you talk, you'll get the bawk." He says as a threat. "I'll find you and I'll make soup."
Then he proceeds on, exiting the room last with Corlith.
"Me? Pah, I'm fine. Never better." He says as his droopy, saggy comb flops from side to side as he looks around. He's pale as a ghost and certainly does not look fine at all.
Wilfred is quiet and introspective for a bit as he thinks on what Corlith said. He takes a couple of deep breaths, and considers it. Maybe there is some common ground. Maybe they could help him out? They're still green, but they are a skilled bunch. He might have been a bit harsh; mule headed as she would say. They could help him rout out how far the rot has gone through Baldur's Gate.
He move close to Corlith as they walk. "Listen Ronald...I mean, Corlith. Listen. Sorry about before. I sometimes get lost in my own head. But, you might be right. There is some common ground here. I just worry sometimes that you youngin's always think things are always black and white. Anything can become touched with corruption, and you can't let your faith in some of these institutions make you follow them blindly. But yea, I think we are after similar things. Cleaning up the streets from the evil that permeates it. Let's just focus on the task at hand now, yea? Good."
He will say to Reed as they get to the intersection "Maybe we should see what's over hear, before we keep going up?"
Corlith doesn’t react to being called Ronald by mistake, but he does note it.
“I appreciate you reaching out Wilfred. You know, my generation are not as naive as you might think. As for myself, something inside me compels me to bring some kind of order, it is not about institutions but something…deeper. I can almost feel the chaos rife in the city”, he says almost looking through Wilfred as he does.
“My folks are simple people, working class just like the ones you wish to protect. And it isn’t always easy for my kind as you might imagine. I am not sure who or how or why, but some higher power took an interest in me. A benefactor who gave me opportunities my folks could not, that I had no right to get. And now I have a chance to oppose the chaos”.
“You know we look up to you. You can be a real positive role model for us, all of us”, he says motioning to Archie and Roo, and then Reed and Virro. “We all have things to learn from you. We all have our issues, some more than others. I think you have some issues too. Maybe in time we can help each other, but as you say, let’s focus on the task at hand for now”, he says patting Wilfred on the shoulder.
“Good talk Pops”, he adds finally.
He walks across to Reed and reaches out a hand if he lets him, granting him some magical defence.
"isn't up, like going out? We came down here, it feels like up is the wrong way... Bad guys are gonna be deeper in right?" Archie's tinny voice is obviously still frustrated and in a resigned teenage huff, though she doesn't argue if people start ascending the stairs, not wanting to be left here alone
"We've been going up and down stairs since we got down into this quaint hideaway," Reed says. "I don't think we can assume a few stairs up will lead us back up top."
However, Reed does raise the lantern and head down the passageway to the west (party's right).
With Reed in the lead, the party turns down the West tunnel, and finds themselves in another room. The partially collapsed room has four wooden beams bracing its ceiling, with the far end of the room crumbling. Situated between the beams is a scorched wooden table with a human cadaver resting atop of it.
A frighteningly thin woman in a long, dirty, black robe is studying the corpse, her face largely hidden under a cowl. Around her feet creep a swarm of skeletal rats.
As you enter the room, she is moving her thin fingers high over the corpse, the robes sleeves dragging against the edge of the table. But as the light from Reed and Archie catches her eye, she stops her movement and turns to stare at you all, anger with being interrupted plain on her face.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Roo alerts as soon as things break out. He watches Corlith drop sacred flame on this thin woman, then runs into the room and flips the table over onto its side, creating a place of cover he can hide behind.
"Buck buck bagop!" He says, startled and unsure of what to do as he tries to take cover. "Wait, wait! We were just arguing about not killing some random featherless cluck in the last room! How is killing some random featherless cluck in this room different! Someone, I demand an explanation!"
Wilfred, seeing Corlith's spell and Roo rush in, doesn't waste any time. He moves in and swipes at the woman with his glaive. "No time for talk, time for actioooonnnnnnnnnwhat the heck are those!" As Wilfred notices the skeletal rats, the back end of his spinning glaive misses. He quickly jumps up onto the table. "Rats! Why did it have to be rats!"
Action: Attack with Glaive. To Hit 22, damage 14. Bonus: Attack with Glaive. To Hit 8, miss Move: Right up to woman, then on top of the table, right in front of her.
Virro walks into the room and casually looks at the woman, a look of disapproval and disdain on his face. “You are doing it all wrong. Obviously you are an amateur..”. And with that a gong sound is heard around her.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Wilfred slices the woman before he sees the rats and her anger turns into sinister chuckles as Wil jumps up onto the table, straddling the dead man's head. "You dare interrupt Flennis... you dare enter her domain. You will join this man, I swear it on Myrkul!"
Just as she is done admonishing Wil, Virro succeeds in ringing her bell and she winces. Drawing her attention, he dares critique her, and what can only be described as glee on her face transforms to seething hatred. She reaches her skeletal thin hand towards him, casting ray of sickness, but in her anger, it hits the wall behind him.
Reed turns his head from the rats to Wilfred jumping on the table. He really would have to find those special night goggles he’d heard about. Much easier to sneak up on these people.
while she’s occupied, Reed draws his aim on her and lets an arrow fly.
Shortbow (19+6) = 25 to hit, Damage 9+6=15
Then he tries to slip behind one of the pillars for cover.
The arrow flies at the old woman and hits her right in the chest. She screams out in agony but when looking for the source of it, she frustratingly can't find it.
The rats scurrying around her feet head for the nearest target and surround Roo. Luckily, his feet are bouncing around like crazy and they can only get a nibble of him (2 damage)
Firstly confused and irritated by the groups lack of forethought before launching into attacks, the Ironmaiden's worry is soon abated by the woman in the room identifying herself as someone that Archie would consider a 'bad guy'. Seeing roo having to dance to stop being attacked The Ironmaiden yells out, "I got you Roo, YEET!" before recklessly launching her light hammer, spinning as it goes, headed at one of the rats, (6 to hit) the light hammer misses the rats and goes clattering off somewhere Archie curses in draconic as she runs forward to the back wall, sandwiching this woman between herself and the old man, Archie then stretches out her flaming hand calling the hammer back into her grip ready for the next swing.
Corlith steps firward and once again focusses on the gaunt lady, whom he now knows is a spellcaster and a follower of Myrkul.
"Cool your heels, Flennis. Time to join that dead god of yours!", he says and brings his hand forth and emits an icy stream in her direction.
Movement: 5ft west Action: Cast Ray of Frost at Flennis: To hit: 15+7=22, Damage: 8 [cold] - its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of Corlith's next turn.
Ironmaiden gives a solid nod of appreciation to Corlith at his speech, she then produces another flame in hand and lifts it to head height helping Reed light the way as she follows him down the stairs.
Corlith watches Wilfred leave and takes a deep breath, whispering, "I guess not".
With Ironmaiden leaving as well it left him alone in the room with Roo.
"You ok? You took some solid hits there, you good to continue?", he asks the rooster he had just accused of having pent up aggression.
