Ham enters the fighters' room, a tense and energy-filled environment. His small figure stands out against the towering combatants. He raises his hands, calling for silence.
"Hey, folks! Before we kick off, I want to go over the rules again!"
Unrolling a scroll, he begins explaining the tournament rules:
1. **Points-Based Fights:** The first battles will be decided by points in three rounds. Each fighter earns points for successful strikes.
2. **Winners Face Off:** Winners from the initial rounds will face each other in a new round, again decided by points.
3. **Epic Final Match:** The last two standing fighters will go head-to-head until exhaustion.
4. **No Magic Allowed:** Magic is not allowed. You can try, but if caught by the judges, you'll be disqualified.
"Remember, folks, this is for fun, but also for glory! Do your best, showcase your skills, and have a blast!" "If you don´t have any questions I see you on the battle!"
He exits the room as the tension among the fighters intensifies. The distant sounds of the crowd and music fill the space, creating an electrically charged atmosphere.
Bryn can feel the excitement mounting, the atmosphere festive rather than violent. He relaxes as the vendors distribute their snacks and drinks, handing over his coins for the cone of treats. He smiles at the rest of the group and says, "This isn't at all like the fighting pits I knew before...thank the Sovereign Host! This is more for entertainment, not a blood sport spectacle for the violence itself. I might actually enjoy these matches..."
Bryn settles in and savors the many sensations - the tastes, the smells, the flash of colors, even the vibrant hum of the crowd as their anticipation grows... He leans gently against Rylia, their shoulders and upper arms touching.
“Huh,” Arr listen intently to the laid out rules. “So, we get points for strikes? Interesting.” They doff their shield again and opt for the cleaver and hammer combination. After a moments thought, they also attach the shield on their back just in case they find themselves in need of it. Then, suddenly it occurs to them to take a careful look around at the other fighters. Arr feel stupid not for having done that before, they know that half of a victory is knowing your opponent. (Investigation/Perception: 7/2) They’re trying to guess what the tactics of the other combatants are but the pressure of the looming fight plays tricks with their nerves.
Rylia takes the nuts and a beer after paying the vendor. "Mmm, this is good," she says after trying a bit and taking a drink of the beer. She downs another quick drink immediately after. "We should come here more often," she says, casting a glance at Bryn. "Although I'll have to see how all this fighting turns out." She relaxes a bit, her head tilting to rest against Bryn as she prepares to watch the matches begin.
Arr, somewhat distracted, finds it challenging to focus on the opponents surrounding them. The fighters, except for the Gnoll and the Dwarf, are ushered through a tunnel and emerge in a reserved area near the stands. There, they can watch the matches unfold but are separated from the rest of the audience.
The imposing Goliath, with a voice that resonates throughout the arena, steps forward to announce the commencement of the first battle.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the grand spectacle of the Cogs! Our first bout is about to unfold, a clash of strength and strategy!"
She gestures toward the entrance, and the crowd erupts in cheers as the first two fighters emerge.
"In the red corner, we have Slink, the towering Gnoll Warrior! Known for his agility and ferocity, he's here to prove that the Cogs are his domain!"
As Slink steps forward, the crowd's cheers intensify. Slink, a tall and imposing gnoll with sandy-colored fur, holds a spear with confidence. His yellow eyes exude determination, and his wiry build suggests agility.
"In the blue corner, meet Drogar, the resilient Dwarf Paladin! With divine smites and agile hands, he's ready to show that stoutness and faith can triumph over any opponent!"
Drogar strides into the arena, clad in studded plate armor adorned with divine symbols. His long, braided beard gives him a distinctive dwarven look, and there's a palpable sense of strength in his demeanor.
"The rules are simple, folks! A fight to determine the superior warrior! Let the bouts begin!"The Goliath raises her arms, signaling the start of the match, and the crowd erupts into cheers once more.
Slink, the gnoll warrior, advances aggressively, swinging his long spear in a quick horizontal strike. Drogar, the dwarven paladin, responds with nimble footwork, skillfully evading the attack. The audience releases a murmur of surprise, followed by applause for Drogar's prowess.
In retaliation, Drogar moves for a counterattack, moving his sword in a precise strike. With one jump, the small figure almost rips off the immense Gnoll's right Slink´s arm, eliciting a wave of enthusiasm from the crowd.
**Round 2:**
Feeling the strike, Slink attempts a series of swift attacks, but Drogar showcases his defensive skill by expertly blocking each onslaught with his shield. The crowd is divided between applause for Drogar's solid defense and shouts of encouragement for Slink.
Seizing the opportunity after Slink's offensive, Drogar counterattacks with a powerful swing of his sword but misses and hits the steel fence that defines the limits of the stage. The impact resonates through the arena, prompting a mixed chorus of applause and approving exclamations.
**Round 3:**
Recognizing the resilience of the dwarven paladin, Slink decides to change his strategy and charges with a mighty thrust, attempting to overpower Drogar through brute force. However, Drogar anticipates the move and skillfully sidesteps the attack. The audience holds its breath for a moment, then erupts into applause as Drogar, seizing the opening, lands a precise blow with his sword. The impact is solid, forcing Slink to stagger back a few steps and fall on his knees, and the arena resounds with the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd.
With the three rounds concluded, the announcement echoes through the arena, declaring Drogar as the winner of the bout. The crowd reacts, some with a round of applause, cheers, and whistles, celebrating the skill and determination of the dwarven paladin, others frustrated because of their bets in the big Gnoll who got defeated.
As the crowd's cheers and applause echo through the arena, the vibrant melody of the tiefling and the saxophonist regains prominence. Their music, a mix of improvised percussion and the soulful notes of the saxophone, fills the arena with an energetic and rhythmic atmosphere.
Amidst this musical interlude, two burly half-orcs enter the stage. They carefully approach the injured gnoll, Slink, who, though battered and bruised, manages to stand with assistance.
Just as the musical interlude reaches a temporary pause, the imposing Goliath reappears and announces the next pair of fighters.
The goliath's deep voice resonates through the arena, "Ladies and gentlemen, our next duel promises to be just as thrilling as the last." The ambient noise in the arena dims as the crowd senses the upcoming announcement. Her voice, deep and resonant, fills the space as she introduces the next pair of combatants. "Prepare yourselves for a clash between two formidable contenders ready to test their mettle in the arena!"
"First, hailing from parts unknown, armed with an assortment of peculiar weapons, we have our mysterious and enigmatic warforged Arr Rage!"
As the Goliath utters Arr's name, the crowd responds with a mix of cheers and intrigued murmurs. The spotlight figuratively shines on Arr as they step forward amid the cheers.
"And challenging our enigmatic contender, we have a force to be reckoned with, a warrior of indomitable spirit. Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome Kaela!"
The cheers now split as the crowd see Kaela's figure. The spotlight shifts to the entrance, where Kaela strides confidently onto the stage, exuding strength and determination.
"Prepare yourselves for a clash of titans, a spectacle of skill and might! Arr versus Kaela — may the best emerge victorious!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Arr shake their arms and legs and try a practice cut left and right to find the ideal grasp on their weapons. 'Hope it was a good choice to forgo the shield,'they wonder while observing their adversary. With a cursory glance they try to locate their friends in the audience and notice for the first time how many spectators there really are in the arena. After shaking their head to re-focus on their present task, Arr nod to the announcer to indicate that they are ready to rumble. (in case you work with that: Initiative: 19)
Brother Coltinar considers linking to Arr but chooses to not distract him and prays for his victory to Dol Arrah.
OOC - Prior bets by Brother Coltinar bets 5 gp on Arr Rage for the first round and 5 gp on Boho the second round. OOC - subtracted 10 gp

Rylia had cringed a bit at Drogar's first strike on the gnome, burying her face against Bryn's arm. She peeked back out though to see the rest of the battle. To Coltinar she says, "Quite brutish. But I guess it is exciting." She sounds a little skeptical of her own statement. But was clearly interested in the proceedings.
As Arr comes out and looks around, she tries waving frantically at him. She figures though that she's probably lost amongst the crowd to him.
Bryn watches the first match with an eye for the techniques used by each fighter. He thought the gnoll made a good choice at the start of the match, but Bryn knew the dwarf's stunning first strike was decisive. He was about to lean over and comment on the paladin's battle prowess and power when Rylia hides her face in his shoulder. Changing tactics, the rogue grips her hand and gives it a gentle squeeze.
"The gnoll's hurt, but not down. He's tough - that massive blow would have dropped most creatures!"
The energy rises as the Goliath announces the next combatants, Arr and Kaela. The crowd buzz when the warforged, focused on the impending clash, perform a few practice swings, testing the weight and feel of their weapons.
For a moment, Arr sees someone waving frantically among the spectators. It's impossible to recognize who is, but the Barbaro notices their friends' nuances from afar, which invigorates them. (Arr gains 1 D4 that can be used on attack rolls or in Saving Through) Kaela steps forward confidently! With a swift nod to the announcer, Arr signals their readiness to enter the fray.
The spotlight now shifts to the two contenders.
The cheers from the crowd reach a crescendo and the Warforged full of determination advances to be the first to attack.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

It's their first arena fight and it is strange to watch your opponent calmly while you have to wait that the fight starts. When a fight starts naturally out of necessity, ofttimes there isn't time to think only to act and Arr know that they are unusually fast, but like this there's too much time of nerve-racking thinking and watching your foe. So, with their nerves on edge after such a long standoff, Arr simply charges forward and recklessly swings his meat cleaver in a wide, near horizontal arc across Kaela's body and tries to exploit a hole in her defences when they clobbered her weapon arm with their broken pipe.
(Forgot to mention in the grey box that Arr used Reckless Attack (see below))
Reckless Attack - PHB, pg. 48
When you make your first attack on your turn, you can decide to attack recklessly, giving you advantage on melee weapon attack rolls using STR during this turn, but attack rolls against you have advantage until your next turn.
"Look! Look! I think Arr saw us!" Rylia exclaims as they look about the arena and seem to focus more or less in their direction. She at least believes that he saw them. "Come on Arr! You can do this!"
