(Thanks, I updated the post with the correct name.)
Gendan’s not shy talking about death or killing, but she obviously believes it’s the guy’s own fault that he died. “Some of the masked men got away, but one went down during the pursuit. He’s laying out in the street now. I’ll go get the body for you. I imagine the townsfolk probably don’t want it just laying there when they wake. Where do you want me to put it?”
(If Torelgen agrees, she will leave and go fetch the body, returning it to wherever he advises.)
Torelgen as well as Jeremy seem visibly panicked at this. "One went down!?" Torelgen exclaims. "This is not good. Get the body here quick!"
When Gendan goes to fetch the body, she find that it's gone.
Returning to Torelgen and telling him this, Torelgen says, "This is not good. The dark mask guys seem to be local villagers. If one of them dies, that would definitely cause some trouble here. This will have people asking questions. It would become easier for them to rally people against the goblins or you guys.
"So... people at the village turn bringands and murderes and we defend ourselves and it's going to be bad for us? " Valwarin stetps off and negates with his head " And they call the animals savage... I refuse to understand people or civilization "
Elsara looks to Vladimir. "What do you want to do? We could go back with you to see Mr. Evans if you want, or maybe come stay with us tonight and we can bring it up with the town master tomorrow?"
The Father lets Val go and turns to the others. "The way I see it, you have a few options. You guys can leave town tonight and let things sort themselves out. Or you could try to plead innocence should they choose to blame the death on you. However, let it be warned that should you get caught, the consequences will be severe." He then speaks again in Dwarvish,
You could also try to pin the blame on the goblins. I'm not suggesting you do it, I'm just stating your options.
He then switches back to Common and completes what he has to say. "That's all the options I see. If you can think of anything else, I'd like to hear it."
"We should tell the town." Elsara tells the others. "There are people here who think it's fine to attack those who are protecting them, and that's just wrong. What if the fire attack carried on along the street? Then they're burning their own homes, too!"
To clarify, the guard house that was attacked was further from other buildings. If no one stopped the fire, it would've probably just burned out after the building was destroyed.
Father Torelgen says, "Young one, I understand where you're coming from but you must understand... mob mentality is a dangerous thing. Should you try to tell them the truth, the dark masks would have an easier time swaying the villagers in their favor." He pauses for a bit to take a deep breath before he continues. "You see, what you are saying is completely rational however, the others may not listen to reason." He looks at the door through which Val left. "I'm sure a lot of you find the situation here quite crazy and baffling. This is because you are looking at things rationally while the people here think emotionally. The goblins are protecting us and attacking them seems insane but to the villagers who attack them, they are outsiders who have attacked us before and are now planning to take us down once and for all. There is no evidence to support this idea but because they have seen their ancestors and the family friends incur losses from past attacks, they can't bring themselves to trust the towns safety in the goblins. No matter how much evidence you pile or how long you reason with them, they won't, they can't accept the goblins overnight. The other villagers who have no problems with the goblins see them as our friends while they see the other villagers as family. If they see one of the villagers dead, they would listen to emotion and turn on the goblins." Torelgen sighs and says, "I think the dark mask's leader understands this. I think this is why he was able to recruit members in the first place."
"Well when we went we'd only heard all the nasty stories that the town had said about Mr. Evans and his family." Elsara says."We were like Dark Mask at that point, and even fought them, until we managed to stop the fighting and make peace, and it was really good to do so."Elsara draws (nonethreateningly) the blade, cutter. "Mr. Evans even gave us his special blade. That's got to show that he's not wanting to keep his war with these people going, right?"
(Nah, Elsara's deeply invested in helping the goblins, so she'd jump onto this even if the others didn't.)
"And there lies the problem," says Torelgen, "You see, you've only heard the nasty stories but haven't seen them. The nasty stories weren't told to you by your parents and grandparents but by strangers. Because of this, you were more willing to trust the goblins' words. Though I will say that the goblins seem to be keeping their word, you didn't know that at the time. You trusted them and it paid off. Will you be still willing to do so if the nasty stories weren't just stories but things you saw yourself or things that your parents and their parents saw? This is why the villagers are having a hard time accepting the goblins."
Gendan says, “I’ll stick with Elsara. She made the truce with the goblins, and that’s the truce we were protecting. But if they want to play the emotion game, I’m certain I can out-emo them.” Her fire-red hair flickers out of her hood like tongues of flame, her eyes are empty as black holes.
Torelgen nods and says, "Very well. In that case, the question remains of how to find their leader. Convince him and you'll be able to sway the entire group."
(For clarification, the Dark Masks don't really have an official group name. They wear dark masks because they mostly attack at night. Torelgen is calling them Dark Mask because it's much easier to call them that than "the guys who are wearing dark masks")
"Ooh, I read about a thing where there are two militiamen and one acts really nice and the other really nasty." Elsara says. "The nasty person says horrible things and threatens them, so that they will want to turn to the nice one who might set them loose if he tells them what he knows. Maybe we can ask the captured guy like that!"
(Basically good cop, bad cop. Also, just checking the captured guy isn't in earshot, right? Otherwise Elsara says it at a whisper.)

(Wrong guy. This is Torelgen. Chronomane is the shut-in, mad doctor)
Torelgen says, "Yes. Why?"

I just realized that all the stuff you guys are doing isn't directly linked to the taken quest.

"So we should go find this Dark Mask guy and tell him to stop, then the others will stop too." Elsara says, wielding occam's razor as her weapon ;-)
"If you believe you can convince him, that might be your best course of action. How do you plan to find him though?"
(Guys, am I being too rail-roady? I feel like I'm being rail-roady)
