Elsara will go back to get the supplies from the back of the cart to bring in. She looks for a couple of carrots from the pack to give to the horses in an attempt to calm them down somewhat.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing as they are in cover, Gendan won’t be concerned about tents. Bed rolls would likely be sufficient in a cave. Gendan canvases the cave to make sure there aren’t threats from deeper within.
I think you misunderstand. You are not in a cave, it is a hole in the ground that's deep enough to protect you from the wind to a good enough extent. You still have rain pouring on top of you from all directions.
Val gives the tent to Gendan and noticing that Hunin is still not there, and knowing that the last time he saw him was near the tree will say.
"I will try to find Hunin!! " he yells so the others can hear him " Stay here!!!" and he goes out again in the direction of the tree he found before looking for the lost party member.
Val, (yes the checks were necessary) you take another minute to go over to the tree you found before. You see that the tree has been charred by the lightning. You guys didn't see Hunin because he left the tent after the rain hit and because of the rain, your vision is being blocked. Though lightning strikes make your vision range become 30ft temporarily, it's not enough to see Hunin. In case this caused some confusion, if Val would've gone to the campsite instead of his previous tree, he will find Gendan and Hunin's tents but Hunin is nowhere to be found.
Runt, the hole hasn't filled with water yet but it's likely that it will fill with water as the storm progresses.

( Is Gendan's work with the tents and pitons not doing the trick? Do I need to roll something for this? I think her strength is sufficient to anchor the tent as a lean-to, shielding the entrance of the hole from the rain.)
You can try to dismantle both tents as put all the cloth from it together to make a huge tent but it still won't be enough to cover the hole. It can however, create a flat roof some 10ft above the hole. Roll SoH for this (If nobody Helps, then do it with disadvantage.
Val, I normally wouldn't allow for the advantage roll for turning into dire wolf because the whole area smells like wet grass (for obvious reasons). However, Hunin got hit by lightning and so you can pick out a smell of burnt flesh easily in Wolf form.

Elsara is doing a good job of keeping the horses in check.
Hunin, roll death saves until stabilizing or dying.
(Poor Hunin. Let's hope he doesn't die alone in the field...)

Gendan will ask Val for his tent and use her hammer and pitons to secure it to the top of the hole to keep it from flooding.

The hole is a literal hole in the ground. There is no entrance and it's two big to do something with one tent. Basically it's like this:
You can try to dismantle both tents as put all the cloth from it together to make a huge tent but it still won't be enough to cover the hole. It can however, create a flat roof some 10ft above the hole. Roll SoH for this (If nobody Helps, then do it with disadvantage.

Huning roll Death Saves.
Death Save 1: 18
Death Save 2: 19
Death Save 3: 9
Death Save 4: 4
Death Save 5: 12
(I am tied to a burning tree pretty sure that auto fails all of them and I die. )
(Edit: Well Hunin is now officially dead)
Anton - Level 2 Human Monk - storm kings thunder (on Hold)
Nah, the ropes were burnt away so you were not tied to a tree. Though the 3rd Death Save is the one where it sealed the deal.
Feel free to roll up a new character.
Runt helps with the tents to try to make a sort of roof.

Sleight of Hand for setting up a tent-roof over part of the hole. 9
