Character Name: Amiz Hushler Race: Leonin Class: Sorcerer Background: Courtier Backstory: Amiz Hushler lost his parents in the war in the north between Alstad and Oshorya. Luckily his grandfather Mausre took him in and fled south to Galstrum. It was not long before his magical talents manifested and singed a patch of his own hair by magical fire. He tried to get into Viedant academy, but he and his grandfather could not afford it. He tried his best to learn what he could from public books and scrolls, but he needed more help. So on the sly he offered to work for a rather wealthy student of Viedant academy. So Amiz did the work and finally had a better understand of magic. A noble took notice of him and offered a job in the King's Court. Amiz thought his luck has turned around, only to find himself overworking as a court scribe. A dead end job, but it did teach him noble etiquette and the bureaucracy behind what the public know. Now he is looking for a better opportunity something that lets him use his magical talents beyond the odd party trick for the boss's kid. Character Sheet:https://ddb.ac/characters/102067526/wFCabN
Hectic day, looks like your going to have 20+ submissions by the time I even start creating a character, so I will withdraw. Do you plan draw from this thread if/when slots open up, or will you start a new post?
I will probably contact people in this thread first, but if there are multiple spots open at one time then I might open up a new thread.
Hi! The setting looks interesting, but I have some questions. I'm looking to make a character who was a recently escaped prisoner of war - he has grown tired of the war and losing friends, so instead of returning to the army he flees to Rinkester.
Of Oblaita and Iprien, which was the original country, and do you have a vague reason for their split?
How recent did they split and devolve into war?
As a Cleric from a different country, would he still worship one of the Five? If so, is Semoquant the appropriate deity for a Tempest domain?
Previously, both countries were called Oblaita until the Eastern portion broke off and became Iprien. Oblaita worships the Five and Iprien worships The'am, which was fine until there was talk of outlawing The'am worship which split the nations. That split occurred a little over a decade ago and the war has been taking place on and off since then. The faiths mentioned in the original post apply to most surrounding regions, and Semoquant would be the tempest domain deity.
Sounds very interesting! Very much feel you on the short arc approach and posting frequency. Refreshing to see those things laid out so clearly in a campaign description.
Character Name: Talbot Surrey
Race: Human
Class: Fighter: Protection Style
Background: Soldier
Backstory:
I come from a family of peasant farmers living in the mostly unknown farming village. I was never the sturdiest laborer, sharpest study or most well-liked person in the community. The only person who ever saw deeper value in me was my dear Miranda. We knew each other since childhood, saw kindness and comfort in each other’s eyes. Our future together was certain… until strange things befell my home village.
Trusted elders suddenly began acting secretly, hoarding resources and acting in shocking ways both in public and private. Things turned to chaos when one of the elders’ wives discovered he had been replaced by a shapeshifting doppelgänger.
An inferno of distrust engulfed my town. Nevertheless, some of us managed to put up an entrenched insurgency. When the ranks began to form, I was proud to take up arms in defense of my family and community.
However, in my eagerness to do battle, I took my eyes off the person I loved most in this world. As a result, to my shame and horror my dear Miranda was replaced by one of the doppelgängers. I was forced to take her life with my own hand, in front of her family. They were unable to look at me the same ever again.
In time, we rooted out the invaders… or at least we believe we did. Some in the town still have their suspicions. But the pain never went away.
I was offered a permanent place in the town militia, but I was too traumatized by the loss of Miranda and haunted by the horrors I’d faced to return to normal life within the town. So, I’ve set off to seek my fate elsewhere, where I might be able to do a bit of good in the world.
In recognition of my contribution to the town’s protection, the community pooled together a few resources to equip me. I promised my family I would always aid them in any way I could. Even though I tried to offer my final apologies to Miranda’s parents, they refused to acknowledge my existence.
So, with nothing else left in my home, I set off on my journey towards Rinkester, and whatever future the fates have in store for me.

Famh Thrawn Fiadhaich - 'half elven' sorcerer (wild magic) 2, Sleeping Gods - A Dragon Warriors campaign in the Lands of Legend

---RETIRED HEROES' REST HOME---
Sae Ivui Nailo - wood elf rogue (inquisitive) 5 , Sea of Death: Captain Hailstorm's Lost Treasure
Ryshraxea "Shra" Naranthi - tabaxi artificer 1, Nyx's Tomb of Annihilation - Group 1
Character Name: Sae Ivui Naïlo ("Poison Ivy of the Nightbreeze clan")
Race: Wood elven
Class: Rogue | Swashbuckler *or, if approved, a homebrew rogue subclass of mine, the Taurë Tavárii.
Background: Haunted One
Backstory: [spoiler]
Sae Ivui was born the second and last child of a mated pair of Taurë Tavári in a sept of wood elves who live in the snowy lingonberry forests of the North betweenOshorya and Alstad. As the youngest daughter, her traditional role should have been to study druidcraft (it is so rare for couples in this sept to have more than one child that when it happens that individual is looked upon as a gift from the nature spirits and essentially dedicated to druidity from birth.) However, during their mutual childhood training, she discovered that she had as little natural bent for druidcraft as her older sister had for the Taurë Tavári to which birth had seemingly destined her. They had each picked up just enough smatterings that when they combined them they were able to enhance their natural resemblance to each other (not actually twins, but much closer in appearance than usual for sisters among their people) by druidic and mundane disguisings, and actually get away with switching places for almost a year. When this was discovered, the initiation griots in the two fields conferred, and it almost came down to both elven girls being exiled for such a profound violation of tradition. But it was eventually decided that the precocious skill and flair of both girls in pulling off the scheme for so long was instead a sign from the nature spirits that this was destined to be, and that in fact the two girls shared so close a bond that they were essentially one spirit even though they were not twins. The strength of the call each felt to her sister's traditional calling confirmed in the elders' minds that in fact their shared spirit meant they were both appropriate for either path. And Sae was clearly meant for the Taure Tavarii. As elegant as a swashbuckler but with a preference for subtlety, elegance and quiet, the kind who will drop down noiselessly from a bough above you you never noticed, slip a stiletto elegantly through the precise spot in your ribcage where your heart lies while enveloping your shield hand in the silken scarf Taure Tavarii carry as one of their traditional weapon [sometimes weighted, sometimes not) ... _] and then leave a black rose on your body as she slips silently away into the shadows).
Another fact that made the Taurë Tavári particularly appealing to young Sae Ivui was a certain elven boy, one by name, who was the only son of the Taurë Tavári elder herself, not the griot but HER superior, the elf responsible for the Tavári portion of the defense of the entire northern woodlands. It was this same boy she held by the hand fifteen years later as they swore their oaths one to the other and their oaths to the Taurë Tavári of their sept on the same day. And it was this same boy she found dying when she returned to their sept's field camp after a day scouting and discovered only blood and flame and heartsdeath. Through the mist of tears, she saw his moon dagger lying where it fell from his hand; through the mist of tears, she took it up in one hand and cradled him in the other arm, then in both, as he died. And just before his spirit passed, he found the strength to breathe the name of their devastator: Jarl Ragnir Eyskjarssen, chieftain of a forest ogre tribe who was now on his way back to his stronghold to hoist a flag of wood elf scalps as a declaration of war. ). A wood elf banished from the woods, she now dances at some of the more secluded clubs, where the shadows are even deeper and an exotic hopper is as much an object of fascination as fear...and one who should be feared perhaps doubly because she fascinates can bide her time and make adjustments from the shadows as she sees fit. Bereft of sept and elders, she now sees herself as an ... adjuster. Others might refer to her as a fixer. She adjusts problems so that they are ... not problems any more. For an acceptable ... mmm... compensation, of course. And it matters to her not a damn, just as the darkness makes absolutely no difference to her in the absolute blackness of whisper and desolation that has swirled in her soul since that day so long and so one split oak gall ago.
His dying whisper. Endlessly repeated, searingly tender as the kiss of lightning that sparks a cleansing conflagration, the sacred quest she has followed since, to bear the flame of her grief and wrath into the gloom where the unchecked growth first begins to fester: the ends of the multiverse as long as any foe lives who bears the faintest hunter's mark (so to speak) of responsibility, ogres first but then, past the Jarl to those behind him, to Vaprak and his slavering hordes, past even them to the evil at the heart of a universe which would bind together only for the sake of the cruel joke of tearing apart, the evil which ogres are but one more target to be cleansed by the fire of her grief when the time comes, at the end of the multiverse if necessary,. "Naes es'tyriaia ... endrayth ... kib'leht. Maa --- kat ... tre- ...".

Thulnam grew up in Galstrum to a family of brewers. He lived a fairly normal life, helping his parents with the business and even made a bit of his own money crafting and selling leather mugs. While he was young, his grandparents died. The way Thulnam dealt with the loss was to learn about the cycle of life and death. He found a temple to Nelethor and began visiting regularly. During his visits, he became enamored with the teachings of Nelehor and rest of the Temple of Five. Stepping away from the family business, he dedicated himself to Nelethor. Thulnam spends his time comforting the grieving, but looks to take a more active role in helping people.
I have a couple of character concepts, just gonna roll the dice first and see what I can make fit.
Character Name: Lana Mystborn
Race: Air Genasi
Class: Warlock (Genie)
Background: Sage (Researcher)
Backstory:
Lana hails from a long line of proud warriors, dating back as far as her lineage can be traced. Lana, however, never truly followed in the traditions of her people. Her attunement to the world around her came not from discipline of the body, but rather curiosity of the mind. While her siblings and cousins learned the martial ways, Lana instead yearned to walk among the other peoples of the world, and absorb knowledge and culture as she travelled.
It would not take long into her adulthood for the inevitable to occur - Lana bade farewell to her clansmen, and set off alone to the city of Rinkester. Within that city she sought to make her home among the students at The Veidant Academy, studying all manner of subjects, with a particular focus on History and the Arcane - Truly, she sought to understand the world she lived in, to master its mysteries.
A long time passed, but soon Lana began to lose sleep, swearing she could hear whispers in the dark. This occurred for several nights, until she realised that these whispers were not within her mind. They were coming from... her hand? Leaning in, Lana realised that the whispering noises were coming from her ring, of all things. She tried whispering back, to no avail.
The following weeks saw Lana bury herself deep in Arcane lore. Her mind did not wander off course for a second, the friends she had made were left to worry at her sudden reclusive turn. Eventually, she found something - a ritual, long and complicated, in the most unassuming tome. In her residence, at night, alone, she carried it out. From within her ring a mist emerged, and that mist formed into a Djinni. It spoke a language unlike any she had ever heard and yet, in her heart, there was somehow an understanding. This Djinn somehow knew her, and she somehow knew it? As if it were some form of relative, lost to time.
The Djinni provided Lana with a modest power, in return for which she made a solemn promise. This Djinn, her seeming distant ancestor, was bound to this world. They sought release, to bestow their power to another and so unshackle themselves from the mortal realm to find peace beyond. This was ancient magic, and the method arcane and unknown. Lana resolved herself to grant this wish, and devoted herself to a new ambition. She simply needed to find the pieces of the puzzle. Were they still to be found among the miriad of tomes at the Academy? Or did her ambition require a push further afield, to climes unknown?
Backstory: Born in the Feywild under the blue moon (a bad omen, as it were) to noble elvish parents, Faylen Keabanise was an outcast from the start. For, she was born without a voicebox, unable to utter a single word. Her parents, utterly ashamed of her, cast her off into the Shadowfell plane, never to be seen again. Growing up in the dark horrors of the Shadowfell, she soon came under the watchful eye of the Raven Queen, who gave her the name of Daewen Pell (Sindarin for Hushed Shadow Maiden). Her melancholic visage and aptitude for hiding in shadows were of great use to the Raven Queen, who often sent her on missions to other planes to watch and wait, looking for the tragedies her Queen wished to collect. Being a mute has its advantages among the Shadar-Kai, as she's learned to hear things her fellow missionaries never assumed were worth paying attention to. It's these nuggets of information that the Raven Queen desires the most, and Daewen has reaped the benefits of being an immortal servant for untold centuries.

Character Name: Mirri Goldenhorn
Race: Satyr
Class: Bard
Background: Far Traveller
Backstory: Originally a Dawngreet of Skola Vale, Mirri Goldenhorn travelled far from home, singing songs of the ways of the satyrs, inviting others to the revels and praising Nylea. As she travelled further afield, her ties to home weakened and she became more captivated by experiencing everything each new culture had to offer. She left the role of Dawngreet and while she still follows Nylea and takes part in the revels, she is more interested in exploring new cultures than being.an ambassador for Skola Vale. She is especially intrigued by the culinary arts, travelling to explore and indulge in exotic new tastes.
