You have been hired by a half-elven mage named Nigel Davender for the purpose of artifact acquisition. You report to the Davender Museum of Exotic History for your first day. The museum has public displays for preserved exotic animals such as hippogryph, owlbear, dragon turtle, etc. in the Hall of Unnatural Species. In the Hall of Burial and Death exhibit, there are artifacts, mummies, and components on display. In the Hall of Magic are a variety of both rare and mundane magical items created over the centuries.
The museum was once the villa of the Gundwynd family, who is long since passed on and started to fade away. It is located n the Sea Ward, at the corner of Vondil Street and Mendever Street. Some of the exhibits on display include past possessions of the family left behind, including a magnificent preserved hippogryff which was once a passion of the Gundwynd clan.

I don't know who else is going to be here or what people's preferences are. I tend to favor skill monkey types, especially bards (why commit to a role when you can do everything badly) and I have a rough outline for a Half-Elven Bard sage, but I'm not married to the idea if someone else had their heart set on playing something similar. Pretty much my bottom four classes are Warlock, Cleric, Barbarian, and Sorcerer, probably in that order, so if we could avoid me having to play one of those I'd be really happy. Otherwise I'd like to think I'm flexible.
One question, and it's mostly irrelevant, but is the campaign taking place in a strictly homebrew setting or is it a homebrew location within an established setting? Just curious for the purposes of character background.
I’m in. OOC at work. Will post more later. I’m ok with starting at whatever level. A rough guideline on builds for restricted races, classes will help.
I’m ok with any class and race builds for the most part. Let’s find some treasures.
So I am planning on setting this in the relatively current time in Faerun, and we are starting in Waterdeep.
I am not interested in adding any thiird party content, and would like to stick to the more mainstream races and classes, but if you really have your heart set on something, just let me know what your thinking and I’m happy to consider it.

I'm thinking a rock gnome artificer build 3 artificer/17 Wiz (Not that well get that high), if that's ok??? He did Standard Array..Mostly ready to go. I just need to do a backstory mainly now.
Don't really know much about Artificer builds, but with that many levels of Wizard in the plan should I shift focus to something more melee oriented? Not sure how many players we're going to end up with but looks like we got two Squishies right out of the gate and we haven't even added a lock & trap build yet, or will the Artificer cover that?
I would not worry too much about the lack of a certain skill. I am hoping for 4-5 players, but only have 3 so far. So we can recruit for specific roles if you feel you are short somewhere. Let's see what player number 3 is thinking first and go from there. I like the rock gnome concept - I have not yet played with an artificer, but love the concept.

Our third is a changeling sorcerer, so this is looking like a pretty decent (but somewhat squishy) party. That's not necessarily a bad thing - given the nature of this campaign, I think we are on the right track here. But you might want a little muscle for breaking down a stubborn door, or stepping in front of the charging Minotaur... Anyone have someone they think would be a good addition for us to add?
Also, can you each send me a list of published scenarios you have participated in - especially any one-shots? I would like to keep this fresh and new for all involved as much as I can. I have a simple one-shot in mind to start us off, but don't want to use it if any have already done it. The keyword here is "apples" - does that strike anyone as too familiar?

I can think of 2-3 people I enjoy RPing with. At least two of them might be interested in joining another PBP. Would you like me to ask any of them?
"Apples" doesn't ring any bells here. As for official published adventures in 5e, I've played/am playing through homebrew mods of the Candlekeep Mysteries and Aquisitions Incorporated. I've played quite few of the official Dragonlance modules and about half of the Caves of Chaos in 2e. Aside from that I come from homebrew country.

I went ahead and mentioned it to one person. Also, I'm certainly willing to go with something less squishy as well.
If groverbloom as a couple more that might join the party, I'll wait to recommend a couple more folks. I don't mind switching to a tank either if groverbloom wants to do a squishy type.
Let me know.
Small trivia note... Xoben Gatius is a play on National Treasure Book of Secrets star Nicholas Cage's character Ben Gates. :o)

Love it!
At the moment I have two character ideas I like. The scholarly bard (Bard/College of Lore with the Sage background) or an aspiring peasant warrior (a brawler type Monk at level 1, multiclassing into Fighter at level 2 and then maybe Ranger or Paladin further down the road). I'll just go with whichever one rounds out the party best once we have our full roster.

Hello all👋
Not quite sure how to go about this.😅

Let’s go with standard array or point buy,, And unless someone objects, I think level 1.

Nope, more of a backstory thing. Don't want to have a character with deep roots in the wrong city, or worse yet the wrong gameworld.
Sounds great to me!
