"You're that daft birds keepers?" exclaims the second dwarf. "He was here a short while ago. We thought he seemed a bit touched and a lot lost so's we took him in for a bit. He wandered off while our back was turned though. He's not a danger or nothin' is he?"

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Kathra cannot stop herself from laughing at the idea that Mub would be a danger. She recovers quickly enough, and quickly adds "No, he's quite harmless."
Gavin greets the two guards, “Trust me, you two have nothing to worry about from Mub. He can be a bit strange but no danger is coming from that one, especially for brave warriors such as yourselves.”
”Yes we have heard some stories from some of your more colorful residents. Thing is, we heard about these strange things many miles away as well. Usually, drunken tales don’t make it that far out of town unless their is some truth to them. We are just looking for any more detail that may give us an idea of where to search. Eventually, the town will have to send someone out as the rumors grow. Something tells me it won’t be the clan leaders wandering through the brush. They will most likely send some unlucky guards in their stead. You help us with information, we help you not getting sent on what’s probably a wild goose chase through the wild.”
Your attempts at getting the guards to open up doesn't quite seem to land the way you wanted it to. Maybe it's a cultural thing, or maybe they're a bit more disciplined than you would have hoped. "Aye, yer free to wander the backwoods as you like. Don't much expect you'll find anythin' of interest, but if you do, feel free to let us know if you come back. We're pretty duty bound to at least listen to what's being reported."

With that, Peren will say” I guess we should be leaving to find our friend, Mub, Thanks for your help, we will let you know if we find anything interesting”
As the rain begins to let up a bit, you ruffle your feathers a bit and take to the air along the river-way. You spot the occasional small mammal peaking out from the tall grasses, and a few ducks seem to be out in force as well, playing happily in the river, chasing a random fish here and there. As you begin to orient yourself back towards town, a faint, ozone-esque smell wafts your way in the breeze. It somewhat catches you off guard as you don't recall any lightning recently. As you turn back, following the scent, you faintly see a small cloud of fish-like creatures schooling through the air about twenty feet or so above the river. Marking the school's location in your mind you gain some altitude so that you can see further downstream towards town. You can squint to see a small crew of individuals that resemble your friends heading out the northern gate your direction.
For the rest of the party:
Tired of beating against the platitudes and obfuscations of these dwarves, you decide it's time to figure out what's going on around here on your own. Heading back to the main road, you go north, out of Rockmount's upper exit. As you pass out of the town and into the wilds, the rain seems to let up gradually. As you look to the sky, you spot a large, humanoid bird-man on the horizon several minutes out by wing, circling. Seems your friend Mub may have found something of interest after all....or something shiny....or some chipmunks....it's hard to tell with him sometimes.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Mub seems maybe too far away to clearly hear you. With a shrug, you head off into woods, doing your best to keep both the river to your right and Mub's flying form occasionally in sight. After what feels like a solid hour trudging through the wet soggy landscape, you find a break in the treeline that opens into a pebbly beach of sorts along the riverbed. You can clearly see Mub circling lazily overhead, but what catches your interest even more is the cloud of hand-sized fish-creatures darting about in the air above the river. There must be tens of them, each flying too and fro, some chasing each other in playful arcs whole others hover and bounce among the school.
((Also, whoops, I lied before. It turns out that I did make one magical item that I should have handed out to Peren before the game. I've added it to his inventory now.))

“Well isn’t that a strange sight. Drunken tales seem to be not so far fetched after all.”
Gavin will take some time to cast ritual version of detect magic and see if anything in the general vicinity is radiating by walking around for he duration
As you cast your spell, you become instantly aware of a bright bit of magic along the rocky bottom of the riverbed, some ten feet out from the shore. It's about palm sized and radiates a rather strong magical aura, though its nature is very hard to pin down. All things being similar, the aural composition reminds you faintly of the rune stones you and your friends ran across so many months ago in the town of Refuge, but this feels far more structured, and infinity more complex.
Importantly, you notice that the swarm of fish creatures seems to be hovering over the object, not straying more than ten or fifteen feet or so away from it as they swim through the air.

With that I will take off my armor and heavy clothes/equipment and dive down to retrieve the item
I imagine I will need an athletics check: 18

((Man we are just not a persuasive lot))

If the rain lets up ill take back to the air and move along the river to try and see what animals are about.
Survival 11
If not then it looks like ill be testing my bow and waxing the string.
(well what the hell .)

Gavin points out Mub in the air to the rest of the party and starts heading in that direction
Peren says “Let’s hurry, it looks like he found something”
Mub will fly around in a large circle over the fist party in the sky.
Kathra cups her hands around her mouth and shouts. "Find something interesting, Mub?"
Mud with let out a loud "Wark !".

Mub comes down form up high to be with the party.

((Nice Dagger, Thanks))
((It is a dagger made from a crystallized dragon tooth, +1 to hit +1 to damage and additional 1d6 radiant damage.))
I share my findings w the group.
