Kathra stiffens slightly at the implication the party is here to extort money out of the town. Her response, when it comes, is in dwarvish.
"You insult my honor by implying I would ever consider dishonesty when dealing with a fellow dwarf. I did not come here for money up front. I came with an offer of service and a request for information regarding the rumors that seem centered around this region. If you have no further information, then you have no further information, and we will head into the hills and seek the truth as best we can."
Duff seems taken aback a bit by Kathra's words, as if he's not really used to others not just accepting his half-thought pronouncements. In fact, he chokes back a cough in a short apoplectic fit before stammering out, "Wh...why I never! I most certainly have no further information for you and your...handy band! Shale! See these folks outside if you will!" You notice that Shale is quietly waiting by the doorway to escort you out. As she turns to lead you away from the fitful requisitionist, who is still hurumphing about his library, you catch a little gleam in her eye and the hint of a smile. You're pretty sure she caught most or all of the meeting's exchanges and found the whole thing somewhat delightful.
Gavin does his best to give a half hearted bow to Duff. Quietly and discreetly, he winks at Shale on the way out and asks “So Shale, if you were us, where would you go to find out more about these non-existent ‘happenings’?”
"Well, if I were you," Starts Shale, while making notes one a paper as she leads you past a busy forge room, "and luckily, I most certainly am not....I'd gather what supplies you can and head north out of town before word of your little tiff with Duff makes it to the ears of Master Alabaster. Amusing though it was, I don't think will be getting too many favors among the other clansmen here in town."

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Kathra mutters something incredibly rude about Duff, his upbringing, his parents, and his chances of ever finding someone willing to sleep with him in dwarvish as she allows Shale to usher them out of the clan hall. She hears the last of Shale's comment and snorts.
((Do I get the sense from her tone that she is directing us to where the problem lies or she is advising us to leave town?))
“Kathra, I don’t know what you said to him, but from the response I would say my appreciation for you has suddenly grown.” Gavin says with an ear to ear grin.
As you make it to the lobby area, you notice a fat looking pigeon wading around, seemingly unnoticed by the crowd of people moving around in here. When you see it, the bird trundles over to Mirabel, flutters its wings just enough to light on his shoulder and shoves its head conspiratorially towards his ear-hole.
Exiting the clan hold, you find yourselves in the open drizzly air of the early afternoon. Having delivered its message, the fat pigeon flies off in a random direction to perch in a nearby tree. It doesn't seem to be quite wet enough out here yet to impact the local economy much, and you see several people bundled in cloaks and hoods wandering about on various errands. From where you are you can either head east back into the main town proper or take the northern path towards the tower on the upper edge of town. Looming to the south, over a few buildings, the steepled roof of the local temple seems to hold silent vigil over the local throng.
For Mub:
You track the trail of the roving band as best you can until you lose it in the river. Strangely enough, you don't see sign of them emerging from the other side. Otherwise, you don't see much of anything else. As the rain begins to pick up, you decide to head back towards town, stopping here and there when you find a nice sheltered dry spot to wring out your feathers.

((It's raining. That's what became of your fat pet.))
For the party:
As you wander the muddy street north, it doesn't take you long before you find yourselves at the fork leading out of town. The dirt road continues north along the river and to your right you see a path leading up to the watchtower. Out front, two dwarves in dull gray armor and oiled cloaks seem to be trying their best to stand together under a wooden awning that is providing a little bit of shelter from the drizzling rain.

((You tell that jerk Kathra!))
((I'll have something up later after my AL League is over.))
((I knew Kathra would set him straight and there was no need to say anything))

Mirabel is highly amused by the talking bird.
"Friends, I think we ought to head North, before we pay a visit to Bhaerny to see what our avian friend has gotten himself into."
Peren agrees with everyone and says “Let’s head North, we will find no answers here”

North it is
Mub will just sit where he can get the water off him and wait for the rain to spot or some one to get him.
With his eyes lock to the north trying to note in his mind where he has been to and what has come of his fat pet.
