Kathra waves a hand in a semi-dismissive manner. "Ah, it wasn't much of a fight from me this time. That boar came in handy, though." She waves it over and gives it an appreciative pat.
“Well done my friends. I met the Red Knight when the spell engine sent me away. If you don’t know, she is a demigod that works with Tempus. She is the Lady of strategy and tactics. She spoke to me and when she learned of Orlung and sent me back with that ‘gift’ to give him. It weakened him so she could take him back to her plane and defeat him for good. I can’t believe they called upon us to do this. I have always been a loyal servant of Tempus, but never in my dreams could I have thought of serving him this way. I mean, we are just mortals.” Gavin’s expressions move from one emotion to another. Confusion, pride, and awestruck among others.
He snaps out of it and realizes there are things to be done in the here and now. “We need to collect all the spell stones, the treasure we were promised, as well as anything else of value.” ((Anything of value lying around in the debris?)) ”We should also thoroughly search Korm’s workshop to ensure nothing is left behind for anyone else to tamper with this power. Then we should all rest and heal up from a well fought battle. Hopefully these storm seals, which are starting to grow on me, will move along now and find a safer place to live.”
Gavin looks at the others for their input “What do you think we should tell the dwarven clan leaders?”
Kathra's astral boar gives her a brief nuzzle before dissipating away into stardust that swirls and sparkles in the air before vanishing while Gavin finishes up healing the adolescent Storm Seal. The horned beast barks once in appreciation before taking to the air, twirling around playfully with its school. As one, the larger adolescent leads the mass of Storm Seal pups and other smaller adolescents to rise to the top of the cavern and fly away through the large hole left from Gavin's meteoric return. As the sun shines through the hole you realize that, for the first time in days the rains seem to have ended and the skies are nearly cleared.
As you look around, you see only the rubble remains of the Seree Spell Engine in this room and parts of a catwalk barely hugging the upper walls with no stairs leading to them any longer to help hold them aloft. Some of you vaguely recall nearly tripping over a strange gnome-fish skeleton during your chase with Korm, but it would likely take some digging (and an Investigation check) to unearth it from all these black stone cubes that lie scattered across the floor. Others of you remember that Korm kept various papers, books, and treasures back in the Forge Room to the south. Also there is the matter of the Ritual Room in the upper reaches of the Sapphire Mines that holds a lot of evidence and knowledge for would-be explorers to rediscover if left unadulterated. Either way, you're sure that you've gotten what wealth you can from the flooded areas and are likely glad to not have to go tromping around in those waters again unless you really wanted to get your hands on some Storm Seal minnows....
Kathra stretches a little before looking down at her ((now vanished, I assume?)) tattoos. She seems briefly disappointed before Gavin's question snaps her back into focus.
"We tell them nothing, at least not until we've had a chance to sift through everything our friend Korm had. I don't trust them to behave responsibly with this kind of knowledge - certainly not the Krakhal clan, at any rate. We'll end up with another giant... skull... thing otherwise." It's a toss-up as to whether Kathra is being accurate in her assessment or if she just really dislikes the Krakhal clan.
Other than your groups personal effects and the four Seree Stone Amulets that Korm gave you, nothing in this room radiates even a hint of magic, which is somewhat disconcerting to you as just an hour ago before all of this, the whole mountain practically hummed with arcane energy.
For Peren:
It takes some digging, but you eventually find the remains of the strange fish skeleton with the skull of a gnome.
For Kathra:
For now it seems the strange markings on your skin are no more. However, as you briefly contemplate their loss you feel the familiar itch running across your shoulder. When you look there is nothing there of course. It was probably just a phantom feeling you were used to that hasn't quite worn away.....or maybe your astral companion yet lingers.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
The skeleton is very much a common river fish, except enlarged to about the size of a gnomish body. It's hard to tell what the mismatched creature died from exactly. The bones look too fresh to have been here more than a few weeks, but also there is no trace of meat on them or any marks that would commonly be left from predation. If you had to guess....magical accident? Especially in such proximity to what used to be the Spell Engine.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kathra will head to Korm's workshop with the others and immediately begin looking for anything that documents how to create or utilize the Spell Engine.

((Peren is down to 13 HP, but we may be able to take a long rest now))
Peren will nod at Gavin, and say “Gods be praised”

((I believe we still have ropes tied to the upper levels if we want to go back up. I don’t care to dig up the skeleton, but I’m up for whatever))

Peren is curious about this gnome fish creature and will spend a few minutes looking for it.

While Peren is digging, I will cast detect magic. Hopefully assisting him in finding it and anything else here radiating magic

Peren will point out to the group where he found the fish skeleton and ask "Should we destroy this before someone else finds it"
((Does the gnome skull rattle when shaken?))
Mirabel shrugs. "Probably for the best. I'd love to get another look at Korm's study before we go."
Peren will smash the gnome skull to see if there is anything inside, like the other skulls.
If so he will hand what is inside to Mirabel
There is nothing to be found inside the shattered remains of the gnome skull.
((Is the fish skeleton a storm seal or some other animal I’m familiar with? Can I tell what this thing died from?))
Medicine check 18

((I say let’s go to Korm’s workshop and get our chest of jewels and see whatever else is there))
((did that iron ring he was carrying survive?))
((It did not.))
Deciding that you've picked through enough ruble for a while, the group turns to the task of turning over Korm's workshop forge for any valuables.
((I will need Investigation checks from you all.))
