This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Magnus fired a bolt of green energy out of the window striking one of the rising corpses, Quinn charged in but quailed as the dead eyes met his, Jasper came to his side and slashed a rent in the creatures chest.
Normont fired his pistol the booming retort echoing around the courtyard and beyond as it punched through a corpses ribcage, Dev launches into a musical number and Nerak blasts another with ice.
Four more bodies throw themselves off the roof to impact into the courtyard, narrowly missing some of the companions.
The four already there, damaged as they are launch themselves at Jasper and Quinn as the closest sources of meat.
Black Soil Dead 1 vs Jasper Attack: 12 Damage: 3
Black Soil Dead 2 vs JasperAttack: 8 Damage: 3 ( disadvantage)
"They're are so many of them," Lokilia says as she surveys the creator before her and sees their other companions fighting then. She quickly pulls the stones out of a small pouch at her belt. Holding then in one hand, she chants a few strange words as she morons with her hand over them. (Bonus Action: Casting Magic Stone) on them.)
She then takes one and very lightly tosses it towards the undead the others have been attacking. With a seeming burst of wind, the enchanted stone is propelled at its target.
(Attack: 16, Damage: 5)
(OOC - As an air ashari I was trying to flavor her spell there to be propelled by wind. Slightly different than the description but the mechanics are all the same. Hopefully that's ok.)
Lokilia fires a stone cracking one of the creatures skulls as Theron leaps through the window and into the courtyard charging into the fray and laying about with his shovel.
Seeing so many of the corpse like creatures appear, Normont freezes momentarily trying to think what to do. But then his shoulders start to move and head starts to bob from side to side to the rhythm of Dev's song.
"Paralysed, ha! Not me", he says and fiddles with his pistol, seemingly loading in a capsule rather than a bullet.
He aims and fires, not at the creatures but at the floor. As the capsule hits, it seems to expand like a bubble and then pops, leaving a large greasy puddle on the floor where as many of the corpses are standing as possible. He tries to avoid his new companions.
Looking at the creatures who are not yet prone, Quinn pulls his sword up and plunges it into one of the dead.
Rolled a nat 20 for 25 to hit, and 16 damage.
After dipping his sword into the being he feels the earth around him support him and his attack and it brings him the courage to destroy all that is in front of him.
(Bonus action Second Wind to gain back 6 HP, then take a swing at the zombie that crit me. Attack roll 15 for 10 slashing damage. Will type up a more narrative description later when I have time.)
Jasper reels from the first blow, but manages to throw up his shield in time to block the second one. These corpses packed a mean punch… but Jasper’s made of sterner stuff than that. They take a deep breath, focus, and feel a rush of adrenaline course through their body. Jasper takes a mighty swing in retaliation at the zombie that hit them, hopefully giving as good as they got!
Magnus wonders if he should jump out the window as well and follow Theron but then sees the capable fighter slip and fall prone and thinks better of it as more green light gathers in his palm, another beam streaking out and attacking the undead that is closest to Jasper.
Nerak sees Jasper taking some heavier blows. He takes a pinch of powered silver and iron in his fingers and runs off to stand just behind them. If possible he places Jasper between himself and the creatures. As the powered metal sparks with electricity it vanishes and he touches the back of Jasper’s shoulder. “Stay in there, I got you. If anyone has some healing now would be a great time to reveal that!” Nerak casts Protection from Evil and Good on Jasper.
Dev’s song continues and he gives in to its power, or seems to give in to it, as the thrilling sound of trumpets now choruses brightly and a shivering bassline counterpoints the drums and his voice. The tiefling swipes off his hood as he steps forward to the beat, revealing his bone yellow horns, etched with subtle arcane light.
“Jasper!,” he interjects in rhythm, as, seeing the guardsman wounded, Dev’s music sends Jasper 1d6 bardic inspiration. But a dark inner voice holds the teen’s heart. ‘Pain is life, Jasper, and life is pain.’ He shakes his head, clearing it, keening the song's chorus, and moving toward the melee.
Move: Dev ends his turn within 30’ of Jasper, but no closer than 20’ from zombies.
Action: minor illusion (synth trumpets & bass adding to the MJ beat) [Illusion 1: round 2 / Illusion 2: round 1]
Magnus blasts one of the dead staggering it, and Quinn destroys one utterly with a fearsome blow. Still winded Jasper swings back striking the dead Magnus had blasted and felling it.
Normonts spell makes the ground slick the grease mixing with the driving rain, tumbling the dead and Theron alike.
Both Nerak and Dev aid Jasper in their own ways.
Six corpses remain, four of them do not rise but rather writhe and crawl across the wet oily ground and launch themselves at Theron burying him beneath a pile of grasping, biting dead.
The other two converge on Quinn and grasp for him.
Black Soil Dead 1 vs Quinn Attack: 16 Damage: 4
Black Soil Dead 3 vs Quinn Attack: 23 Damage: 10
( Lokilia is up. Then everyone else can post for next round.)
Lokilia hesitates as she sees the dead creatures going after Theron. From the distance it would be a tough shot, so she at last focuses on the Dead that are attacking Quinn.
Taking another stone from her hand, she tosses it up in the air and uses a magic wind to drive it at the cresture. (Magic Stone using 2nd of 3 stones)
“Nuts and bolts!”, Normont curses as he sees Theron slip on his grease. “Hold on Theron, we’ll get them off you”.
With that he steps forward and loads his pistol with a regular bullet. He takes careful aim and squeezes the trigger, trying to hit the mass of corpses on the floor without accidentally hitting Theron.
Movement: Moves to within 30ft of the corpses on Theron
Action: Attacks corpse on Theron with pistol (disadvantage as they are prone) - To Hit: (4,7)+4=8, Damage:1+2=3 [piercing]
Dev has no argument with obeying Jasper’s command. The tiefling stays behind him. But in every other way, he doesn’t seem to be himself in the least – or perhaps his self is revealing itself without regard for his fear of doing so.
Eyes ablaze, Dev’s feet move to the rhythm of the beat, and he lifts his pan pipes, which now seem to emit the thrilling trumpet choruses while the song goes on.
“'Cause this is thriller, thriller night / And no one's gonna save you / From the beast about to strike / You know it's thriller…”
(OOC: Move to within 20 feet of both Jasper and Quinn, while remaining at least 20 feet from the nearest undead, if possible).
Magnus cries out for Theron as he sees the undead jumping on top of him as another purple ball forms in his hand and he flings it frantically at one of the creatures on top of Theron, he also climbs out the window to get closer to his dying friend, hoping to draw the attention of the undead beasts.
Nerak focuses in on the nearest undead to him and Jasper. With another clench of his claw a layer of ice forms around it has he once again casts Frostbite on it.
DC 13 Con save or 2 cold damage and disadvantage on next attack roll.
Jasper grits his teeth as Theron is overwhelmed. "I'm coming, Theron! Today's not your day to die, gravekeeper!" They shout. They weren't about to let anyone die today, not while they still held strength in their sword arm and determination in their spirit.
Jasper heads up to where he saw Theron go down and attacks the nearest zombie.
(I believe they are prone because of grease, so I'm going to roll with advantage but note both results. Rolled a 15 and and 18 - I believe both hit. This time for 7 points of slashing damage)
