Lokilia starts to look worried as she sees this orcish looking man facing so many attacks. She stands her ground, tossing another stone into the air to propel it swiftly at the injured man. (Spell Attack: 9, Damage: 7)
People. So there were... those things, with the 'fingers' and their quadruped not-dogs, and also people. But they wanted nothing from him? It's true, he was the one investigating them, at first, but why then is he still here? A pet? He didn't feel like one. That is, he thought most people feed their pets. Unless... unless he was the food, and whatever is coiling inside him is the pet. Werhann shuddered. He has to get out of here before it's too late.
Werhann willed a knife into his hand. Toothed, to cut the rope with ease. If nothing else, he should at least find some food and water, perhaps find out who's out there. Then... he couldn't fix the ropes, so there wasn't really a way back once they're cut. Probably? He couldn't will weapons into his hands before, but he can do so now. Why? He didn't know. But maybe there are other things he can do now? Well, in any case, he'll need to cut himself free first, or none of that matters.
Werhann bends his wrist as much as he can to reach the ropes with the knife. He'll try to cut into them, but not all the way through, yet. He doesn't know when they'll be back. It would be bad if he were caught immediately when he's finally free. And yet, he needs to be able to make the final cut at the last moment, so he spends no time once they're gone.
If possible, Werhann tries to weaken the ropes by cutting partly through them, but not all the way yet, assuming he can get a feel of how thick they are. If he can, he'll try to cut them from below so that the cuts aren't visible, but if not, he'll just do whatever he can. Once he's satisfied, and assuming he didn't cut them all the way through by accident, he wills the knife away and awaits the next visit by his captors, hoping they won't notice his work.
"Doppelgänger? That is what the strange creature is? So it can shapeshift to look like anyone? So some have magical disguises, but not all. Nuts and bolts, this is most concerning", Normont replies.
He listens as Lady de Rolo speaks about Illithids and the headless body found by Lord Trinket's park, thinking about what might empty a skull out.
"The person we spoke to seemed to be in control of their faculties, so far as I can remember. Maybe there is an alliance then, or the Illithid perhaps is injured and needed help?", he suggests.
"The city has become very dangerous. This information and the items are very helpful, you have our thanks. What will you do now? Will you inform the Pale Guard, because that might tip our hand. It might be best if knowledge of this is strictly controlled for now, so our adversaries don't know how much we know. Given they could have infiltrated anywhere. Perhaps even the castle!".
"Might I ask, what were the Grey Hunters doing in the woods to the west? They were on a mission, what was that mission, and what led them there?".
Arcana: 20+5=25 (23 if the skill should have been History or Nature - Nat 20 though, gotta love that!)
(OOC: Above table, I imagine we are dealing with an Intellect Devourer, but does Normont know of them? With a nat 20, I would hope so :-) Or do Mind Flayers eat brains?!)
Normont wracked his brain trying to think.....snatches of writing, old stories......glinted from the dark recesses of memory......what could do such a thing? Illithids he was fairly certain could do so....the Clarota chapter in Darringtons book said as much......he recalled a report mentioning a brain-dog.....it was old and related to deaths at a carnival almost 50 years ago.....something had escaped and killed the ringmaster.....from recollection his skull had been emptied....what else could.......there was apparently an interdimensional being that did so....but he couldn't recall the name and they were only theoretical as far as he knew.
" Hmmm, the Gray Hunters........I am unsure why they were out there. My dear sister-in-law would likely know.. They do patrol the woods quite regularly so perhaps that was all......or.......wait......there was a report of people camping in the Western Timberlands outside the city....I believe they were suspected of petty theft..perhaps that was it?"

Progo, now faced with 2 glowing targets surrounding him, taking a barage of attacks from both directions. He manages to deflect as many as he didn't. Progo tries to repay the flanking one with a stab of his own as he dances about.
To hit with advantage: 11 for 9 piercing plus 4 sneak and 2 rage against the dead ones brother.
Progo thinks about slipping out from between them, but Progo was feeling the fight in him, perhaps he would stay here a little longer.
Seemingly expecting the blow he danced to one side than struck back at Progo.
Attack vs Progo: 7 Damage: 5
Attack vs Progo: 18 Damage: 7
The bearded man suddenly turned and bull rushed at Lokilia ( AoO for Progo), he wasn't able to close the full distance but got close enough to launch two short spears at her, the weapons seemingly unfolding to full size in his hand from a rod device on his belt.

Werhann was indeed able to cut through the relatively new feeling rope in such a way that it should still look solid to the casual observer.......now it was just a matter of waiting.
AoO: Progo notices a slight change in attention by the bearded man after Progo had poked at the other. The man just completely turned and moved away from Progo. He turned his back on Progo! Well Progo will show you the errors of your ways! 19 to hit for 10 piercing plus 2 sneak and 2 rage. "Progo says no-go..."
Progo follows in pursuit of the bearded man (BA: Cunning Action Disengage) and chases him. As he slows to throw somethings from his belt. Spears? How did he hold spears in his belt? Well first Progo will show him how to store a sword in his side.
“Lokilia!!!,” Dev shouts in fear when he sees his friend assailed by the bearded man’s spears. Lowering his horns and showing his teeth as he sings, Dev flexes one knee incisively to the beat, and redoubles his efforts to put the fear of hellfire into Raff, yellow lightning flickering in his eyes.

"Thank you, my Lady. You have been most helpful. We will do as you suggest and look to the Western woods", Normont replies.
"With regards the empty skull. I have vague recollections that an Illithid is capable of such a thing now you mention it, but also there was once a report of a brain dog that could also be a suspect. Crazy, I know. But all this is crazy if you think about it".
He collects the things he took out to show Lady de Rolo, along with those items given by her, placing them in his bag. He then stops for a moment, and takes out the picture of the true forms of those outside Glinnick's and the image of the real letter from the warehouse.
The picture was the earliest of his creations from his magical tinkering, and he leaves that alone. He grabs one of his tinker's tools, and removes the magic from the letter, after all it wasn't needed after Archivist Pren translated it for them. He then takes a copy of the picture, placing it in his bag.
The original picture, he gives to Lady de Rolo. "If the picture ever disappears, it means I am in trouble. That is the best signal I know of, and it could mean I am no longer with us", he says, slightly unsure what would happen to the image on his demise.
Unless Lady de Rolo has more to say, he will stand and bow respectfully and motion for Quinn to do the same, ready to take his leave with Amber still on his shoulder. Maggie will follow him if he leaves, and he will head straight to where he agreed with Dev and Lokilia to meet.
He will send Amber to scout ahead from the sky, making sure to be careful, and return swiftly.
(OOC: I am assuming he would either go close to Glinnick's, in case things have gone wrong, or back to the Lilac Inn)

Lokilia is a bit surprised by the bearded man breaking past the orcish man and levelling two well-aimed spears at her. Her demeanor shifts, and her form suddenly shifts into that of a Brown Bear. She finishes closing the distance to the bearded man and attacks with both claw and teeth. (Claw Attack: 17, Damage: 6 slashing) (Bite Attack: 14, Damage: 8 piercing)
