"Interesting", Normont replies to the Blond man. "My friend here is correct, we thought your sister murdered Mr Pekese, based on evidence at the scene. It is quite possible though that this Ocici family might have set her up. I heard mention of assassins at work, and I doubt you sister is the type to do her own dirty work", he ponders.
As Dev also gets warned by their Ocici guards, he leans over and whispers to Dev conspiratorially but loud enough for the Ocici to overhear.
"Best stay still, those two seem irate enough already, probably because they weren't trusted to hunt those that got away. That would have been the way to really impress, not just babysitting those already subdued".
Tyler chewed on his lip a little, " I mean I'm sure Sandras probably murdered people......maybe....I mean the dead things come pre-murdered so maybe not that many people."
" The ritual is going to be at sunset so we've more than a few hours until then, I think the workers are mostly done soon so If we could find a way to knock those two out quietly we could likely just walk out as long as we are careful..."
Talking to the group just loud enough for them to hear but not the guards, "Well I can try and take one out with spells, but we have a few people here so I would at least double up on our attacks and attack at the same time. This way we have better odds of taking them out all at the same time." Magnus suggests. "Best option would for any rogue type to sneak up behind them and attack them then the rest of us attack form range and a short charge if need be."
Where is everyone located proportionately to Quinn
The companions + the other prisoners are all within a 20'X20' square tied to a pillar, the few remaining workers are 70' to 80' away and Kile and Gile are maybe 30' away sitting on a trestle table.
Jasper comes around from unconsciousness and just quietly takes in everything going on around them. After they have themselves in a solid state of consciousness, they heave a sigh. "So the Betrayer's do have something to do with it. The Whispered One and the Crawling King. The first I'm familiar with, the second..."
(Jasper would like to do a religion check about the Crawling King. Nat 20 on religion, proof is in the game log. I'm just gonna share basic info since I'm assuming 20 means Jasper knows about the King.)
"That's bad news. The Crawling King is an evil god of jailers and slavers, they love nothing more than taking people captive and inflicting pain upon them. I'm not sure what we do, Magnus, but we definitely need to get out of here. I hope Lokilia is safe. In the meantime, we need to get out of these bonds. We outnumber those lads outside, we can easily overpower them. We just need to escape our confines first. Then from there, we play it by ear."
(I'm a little unclear on our position. Are we in a locked cell of some kind or just tied up with these guys watching us?)
Normont frowns at Tyler, "Maybe she is more ruthless than I give her credit for, but she seemed not to know who Mr Pekese was. Those clothes she wears, are they unique to her? The pattern on them I mean?", he asks as he looks over Tyler to see exactly what he is wearing.
As he does so, he listens to Magnus suggest a course of action and then Jasper speaking about the Betrayers, more sure than ever that he is in above his head. But what was he to do, he was a representative of the Whitestone Rifles, and it's not as if he can call for backup.
He leans across to speak to Magnus, "Trying to be rogue types got us into this mess, and I doubt these folk are any better". He points at the elderly dwarven couple, the bedraggled looking kobold, the thin man in his fourties and Tyler. "We should be a little patient, let those kids get a little bored and the workers go on break or finish for the day".
Another hour or two passes and the workers are mostly gone now, either out to the vineyard or closer to the manor, Kile has fallen fast asleep on the table and Gile, while still watching carefully, is getting heavy eyed.
Eventually a tall well dressed man re-enters the warehouse holding the lead of a great brindled mastiff and followed by a puffing and red-faced old greybeard.
" Damn mutt wasn't able to find the girl...don't know where she got to....I'm off to get yelled at by my daughter I suppose."
He dragged the mastiff along with him, while the old man headed out to sleep under a tree.
" Good seeing you, Da.", said Tyler wistfully, though the man hadn't even glanced at him.
The two Ocici lads, though momentarily roused by the visit, almost immediately made themselves comfortable again and after barely 20 minutes they both seemed asleep.....
It was just at the moment when Dev was about to stand up and draw the guards to himself to create a diversion — or something, it was more a Hail Mary than a plan — that the long night caught up with the lad. His eyes began to droop and he slept until the moment he felt Quinn cutting his bonds.
When he is first pulled to consciousness to feel a close physical presence and the tightening of his ropes, Dev remains perfectly motionless, pretending to still be asleep, his eyes angling down to see what new horror was transpiring.
He breathes a sigh of relief when he understands what is happening and thanks Quinn sincerely.
Once Normont is sure that their guards are all snoozing, he will take out his tinkers tools and help Quinn focus and assist in cutting the ropes quietly using some oiled shears.
"We must be quiet, if Tyler here is right, we can be well away before they all wake", he whispers.
Magnus will keep an eye on their sleeping guards as the rest of the group cut the ropes of the others prisoners. When every one is free Magnus will move to the barn entrance and then usher all the others through first. Once everyone else is past he will cast guidance on himself and follow after the rest.
Jasper splays their fingers, glad to be free of the ropes. "Thanks. Right, what next? Shall we try and sneak out before our captors wake? Or should we knock them out, make sure they don't wake up and give us chase?"
“I would start a fire and then sneak away, by the time the blaze gets going enough to wake them they will have their hands full trying to put it out. It might get rid of the undead problem too”, Normont replies quietly.
Dev’s eyes widen at Normont’s idea, and he replies in a harsh whisper.
“What if we just wake them up all over again doing that? We already tried to stop all of this ourselves and all that happened was we were captured. We need to get help. We should get out of here while we can and find Lokilia. I guess the dog didn’t but what if she’s hurt? Then we get the City Watch and bring them back before sunset. We need to hurry!”
His expression softens and he takes a breath but continues in a rush.
“Sorry if I sounded angry. I guess I am. I agreed to investigate a person, not stop an undead invasion! 50 pieces of gold would be…,” he can’t express how far beyond his reality this figure is, “but I don’t want to die because of it, and we still don’t even know who Conroy Pekese was doing business with!”
"No need to apologise, Dev", Normont says gently. "You didn't ask for all this. I tell you what, why don't I try and rig up something to start the fire once we are gone? That way, if it goes wrong, we will be well away. You could even lead these folk away whilst I do that if you like", he suggests without an ounce of judgement.
"I can't just walk away from this Dev. I am part of the Whitestone Rifles, and these folk are using what happened in Whitestone to bring a new wave of terror on the land. I took an oath, Dev".

Quin barely manages to break his bonds without attracting attention, Gile turns towards him with a raised eyebrow but seems to see nothing amiss....

( Just tied up in an open area within the warehouse.)

Quinn will immediately try to cut the ropes from everyone as fast as he can.
