Zemeia takes to school with professionalism and purpose. She is driven in her studies and frequently acts the dorm-mother, making sure her squad-mates (she would never call them her friends out loud to anyone but them) are fed, focused, and planning appropriately for all their responsibilities. On her family's exceeding wealth, she has brought in an ornate and valuable Dragonchess board to their common area and challenges everyone so she may establish new tactics and techniques. Even while in the midst of this, she is memorizing entire scripts for the Playactors' Drama Guild, even when she has only a single line. She holds herself to a strict schedule, rising every morning before classes to practice martial drills, sometimes on the quad, and sometimes in the slightly larger room she has moved into, grateful for the privacy and lack of chances to smack Aard'len, Darby, or Katar with a training mace. But it has not escaped her roommates' notice that she is still sparing in the details about her life and often displays minimal emotional response, especially when out of the group's suite.
---
Zemeia is walking back to where she had left them, having gone to retrieve a book she left in the room, and is not surprised in the least by the sudden disappearance. She glances around and notices Sprocket slowly gliding in a circle then heading toward Firejolt Cafe. "Of course. All the patience of hungry rabbits."
She notices the crowd is a bit larger than usual and makes her way into the cafe, seeing the throng of people encircling the makeshift raceway. She comes up next to Aard'len. "This seems ... unorthodox. Racing? Also, is that frog wearing suspenders? What are they holding up?"
She adjusts the mace on her belt and scans the crow, noticing Tilana. She gives a small, solemn wave.I wonder if she has thoughts on frog racing tactics.
Aard'len nods to Darby, approving of her choice to throw her lot in on the orange frog with him, "You steer our fella to victory, I'll try to distract the other coaches. I've never been particularly good with animals... people though, I can frustrate them all day. Maybe that's why I'm no good with animals actually."
A well dressed (militarily speaking) loxodon pushes through a few cafe patrons on their way to the back before clapping Darby on the shoulder once. "So this is where everyone went tonight!" He looks over the frogs and set up with an inquisitive eye. "I'm not sure what they mean to do...oh I see, a race! Ha! Not much room for strategy here I suppose, but it reminds me of the great gnome race of 222, when a colony of gnomes decided to have a race from Whizzlecog to Dru'haald. They wore the most ridiculous outfits they could find too! I wonder if they still do that..." He stops and smiles back at Darby.
Tilana raises a brown, then gives a small smile and nod back at Zemeiya, shuffling over to stand by her. "A rather colorful display, don't you think?" She asks Zemeiya, although her eyes keep flickering to the various coaches and others around them, the telltale sign of her reading people over the actual event.
The crowd noise starts to reach a fever pitch and the frogs about ready to go! The frogs are the starting line and a collection has been taken up to give to the winner! If you are participating in the race at all, make an Animal Handling (wisdom) check and state whether you are Racing a Frog, Cheering a Coach, or Heckling a Coach - and which frog/coach you are affecting. Once people have made their final decision I'll post the race results!
Idelisa watches the activity to see who is going to try to coach each of the frogs. She looks over at Melwythorne. "You aren't going to try and coach one of the frogs to victory?" she says with a grin. "Because I'm certainly not getting near them!" She finds herself watching Darby and the orange frog, and points them out to her Dryad companion. "That's Darby, they're in all my classes with me. Maybe we should just cheer them on."
She does just that, now a bit more eagerly awaiting the start of this race so that she can cheer for her chosen coach. 'Just to contribute to the camaraderie of all the students here of course,' she thinks. "Hey, Melwythorne. Think we can get a bit closer? I'd like to see what happens."
'Silver Flame, may you brighten my efforts,'she prays inside her head as she casts Guidance to aid in her efforts.
She notices the crowd is a bit larger than usual and makes her way into the cafe, seeing the throng of people encircling the makeshift raceway. She comes up next to Aard'len. "This seems ... unorthodox. Racing? Also, is that frog wearing suspenders? What are they holding up?"
Aard'len ponders the question quite seriously for a moment, then clicks his fingers in a 'Eureka' moment. "Invisible ankle warmers. I can't think of any other logical explanation"
The red frog catches Katar's attention, deciding to coach the frog. He speaks the frog in a series of croaks, one of the strange abilities he's always had the ability to understand and speak with animals. As a druid; he doesn't want to see animals abused, but he knows that frogs tend to be competitive and they are probably enjoying a chance to be in the spotlight. He turns to Mina "This is going to be great for the paper, which one are you rooting for? I'm betting on that red one with the cape."
"Look, we both see the other frogs. They're pathetic, especially that orange one. I know you can win this, you just have to show everyone else that!"
Zemeia nods at Tilana and says, "I imagine it's to keep them clearly labeled for a competition. But I wonder if the color denotes something about each frog. Perhaps an elemental affinity? Or particular strength? One group of warriors my father frequently tries to exterminate, to no success, believe that red things are inherently faster than others. Maybe I'll follow their inclinations and throw in with Katar and the red frog."
To Aard'len's comment, Zemeia has to cover her face and hold back a sudden laugh. "Knowing this school, you are probably correct."
As Katar gets in position, Zemeia calls out, "A nobler frog there never was than the crimson beast guided by the wise Katar! Huzzah!" Zemeia lifts a fist in military salute of her squad-mate.
The race begins! Furious shouts and heckles arise from the throng of students gathered around in the cafe, and the frogs in their oh-so-dapper outfits begin hopping along mostly in their predetermined lanes! The thrill of this ad hoc race fills the air enabling most of you, perhaps, to forget about your studies and the pressures of schooling and be lost in the madness before you. The frogs are super close for the first half of the race, then the red starts to pull ahead for a moment, but then in the last foot the orange frog suddenly makes a terrific leap and just edges past the orange frog and across the finish line!!! Darby is cheered with a raucous sound and given the prize purse of 30gp!
OOC:
Feel free to play out your reaction to the race, including talking to your fellow students if you wish. I leave this part to you: if you feel like this was a positive encounter with the other student (NPC) you may gain +1 relationship point with them. If it was negative, a -1 relationship point. Be sure to mark them on your relationship sheet.
In the wake of the race finish, while everyone is still celebrating and laughing, the frogs suddenly begin to belch oddly, their eyes turn blood red and their bodies swell up to many times their previous size, now giant frogs! The other students go from cheers to screams and begin to flail and run amok seeing the frogs shed their ripping costumes and begin to lash out at all the students around them!
Combat begins!(I roll initiative for everyone to speed that up)
As the race begins and the frogs start to race, Idelisa unexpectedly gets wrapped up in the excitement. At first her words had been more of a polite, "Best of luck Darby!" But as the orange frog looked to be behind, while the red one was out in front, she found herself cheering a bit more heartily. "Let's go Darby! I'm sure you can get that frog to make up the ground!"
With the terrific leaps at the end, just even gives a little jump. "Yes! That was amazing!" She glances over at Melwythorne, thankful that it was him that saw her enthusiasm. 'It wouldn't do to act so silly arond others,' she thought.
She's still feeling pretty happy about the exciting finish to the race when she catches a glimpse of the orange frog as it rips through its costume and grows in size. "Melwythorne! Do you see that?" she asks as she looks up at the tall Dryad. "That can't be right. Are they attacking some of the students?"

Darby is ecstatic with joy as their frog wins the race. Holding their fits in the air triumphantly and giving Rampart a smirk before turning to their party mates grinning.
"Drinks are on me for the rest of term," Darby announces shaking the coin purse of winnings their back to the table as the change happens behind them.
The sudden look of terror plaguing the faces of their fellow students and the screams make the dwarf whirl around tucking the coin purse in their tunic as Sprocket takes flight to give aid!
"Everyone get back, " Darby declares confidently putting themselves between as many students as possible before removing an odd looking object pointing it at the monstrous frogs! "You don't belong here," they shout pulling the triggering mechanism as a stream of acid line 30 feet long and 5 feet wide bursts forth from the trumpet like mechanism that's little more than a modified rod of some sort!
Determining the frogs were remotely still close they'd focus the stream at the highest concentration of frogs!
DEX save 12 if failed they take 7 of acid damage! Each creature in the line must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be covered in acid for the spell’s duration or until a creature uses its action to scrape or wash the acid off itself or another creature. A creature covered in the acid takes 2d4 acid damage at start of each of its turns.
Darby will then use they movement to push the students back still trying to keep themself between the frogs and their classmates.

Katar thanks Zemeia for her support and encourages his frog in Sylvan. The actual race is a rollercoaster of emotions for Katar, when he eventually loses he is disappointed but congratulates Darby on her victory "If anyone here deserves to win, it's you." They had seemed content moments ago.

"YEESSS!" Aard'len punches the air as their little orange champion makes a leap forwards and crosses that finish line ahead of their red rival. He coughs a bit and quickly takes a drink from his ever-present waterskin, using the moment to congratulate Darby's efforts, "Fantastic job Darby! Another hidden talent of yours... We didn't even need to use Sprocket." He applauds the dwarf for their job of getting the frog across the line, then extends his hand to Katar, "A close race, thought you had us there."
Looking around the crowd Aard'len waves to Rubina to catch her attention before sending his thoughts to her, "Seems like the little actor wanted that starring role. Guess you were right, the size of the stage is only limited by your own percep..." His train of thought is interrupted by the unexpected shouts for students as the frogs mutate and grow. "Get clear, it looks like there is an unwelcome encore!" Memories of the orientation trunk fly through Aard'lens mind, and just as he was then, he feels the need to flee, to get away from the imminent danger. It is almost like deja vu, Darby immediately stepping forward and trying to shepherd those panicked students away from the giant frogs before unleashing one of her gizmos on the amphibians.
Still taking an involuntary step backwards, Aard'len wishes he could follow his own advice, yet a hand on his shoulder sends a tingle over his body as armor wrought of flora wreathes his torso. He looks from the armour to the hand, to the face of Katar, and doing so Aard'len's nerves steady and his voice returns. "Thankyou!" His eyes turn back to the frogs, their dainty outfits now snapped and broken, the dapper little hat of their winner now crushed underfoot. Aard'len follows his fellow's example and responds with magic. His mind focuses on the frog that Idelisa spun her blast of cold at, and his voice rings true once more, "Brainfreeze!" as his unleases a spike of pain into the frog's mind before backing up and ushering other students out of the lounge area, hoping to keep the threat contained within.

Action: Cast Sleep 30 worth of hp in a 20ft sphere. Trying to avoid hitting our group.

OOC: I will use my movement to step away from the frogs, and will cast chill touch with my bonus action Damage: 5
