This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Malvyn too sets out to investigate the scene, hoping to find something out of the ordinary that would give a clue to who fed the black goo to the frogs.
Mei sits on the ground and tugs off her shoes and socks, then rolls her pant legs up over her knees before pushing through the vegetation to tentatively wade into the pond.
“Knap? Could we maybe ask the other frogs what they saw?” she asks and peers down into the water, nose scrunched at the feeling of cold muck squelched between her toes.
“We could…might take me a little bit longer this time, that speaking my with animals can be a little bit of a drain on the spot, but ten minutes of ritual vocal warmups should do the trick. Feel free to join in Mei. It helps.”
Knap continues investigating and also practicing his croaking for a ritual casting of speak with animals.
Mei smiles at the sound of Knap's croaks and begins to search for a potential eye-witness in the pond. She makes her own quiet little frog noises--kero kero--to reassure herself and help distract from the WHAT JUST BRUSHED MY LEG anxiety of wading in the water.
Whilst also trying her best not to fall in.
((Perception: Natural 1 (for a total of 6 with guidance) | Animal Handling: Natural 20 lmao THE RANGE (for a total of 25 with guidance). Those rolls---... like she has a conga line of frogs following behind her but doesn't see any of them hahahaha))
Guardok heads one way and Knap the other in their search of the area. Malvynalso joins in the search. Knapis the first to discover footprints well off the path and leading back into the bushes. There seem to be three sets, though one is a bit hard to follow and seems almost frog-like, but not quite. The other two are humanoid.
Meistarts to wade into the pond as she listens to Knapstart to make his best efforts at frog speech. She does her best to try to locate and attract frogs. She does a fine job, but it is actually Malvynthat points out a couple of the creatures swimming through the water near the young woman.
Pierowatches from the pathway as you all look about. "Any signs of that black stuff out here?"
Soon Knaphas completed his ritual casting and is able to speak with animals.
"Over there." Malvyn says, pointing out a couple of frogs to the purple-haired oracle, a smile tugging at his lips as he watches her wade through the pond. Questioning the frogs was not a bad idea, maybe they saw who fed the black goo to their kin. The purple-skinned Tiefling then turns his full attention to the almost frog-like foot-prints, trying to determine what kind of creature they could belong to.
"Over where?" Mei chirps and looks wildly about, arms windmilling to keep balanced. It's with a squint at where Malvyn points that she finally spots the swimming frogs. "Oh! Oh, hello there." She cups her hands and submerges them just beneath the surface to see if any of the little amphibians might come aboard.
Mei looks back to Malvyn to thank him, but sees him headed off the path with the others. At Piero's question, she softly asks of the boyos as well, "Did you spot something?"
"Yes, some sets of footprints over here, one in particular that might be interesting, come and have a look when you're finished up with your new friends." The purple-skinned Tiefling says with a sllightly teasing tone without taking his fiery-red eyes off the frog-like foot-prints.
Having drawn a blank himself, Guardok wanders back over to where Malvyn is.
"Well, there is nothing that I could see out of place. But I guess you have fared better", he says with a smile. "Nice work".
He looks at the strange footprints and scratches his gemlike hair.
"Not my area of expertise, but we could take a copy in case we need to show someone", he says and takes out his map of the campus. Finding a clear section, or at least one he won't need for a while, he looks closely at the footprint and makes its identical twin image appear on the map. "This will last an hour or so".
(OOC: Hope that counts as a mark or symbol for prestidigitation)
"I guess the first question is if they have seen any other frogs eating anything unusual", Guardok replies to Knap. "Or someone or something feeding frogs recently".
He then has a thought, "And if they ate anything like that as well, just in case these frogs are going to turn on us too!".
With Malvyn'shelp, Meiis able to locate the frogs in the water and manages to get one of them into her hand.
While she is doing that, Guardokchecks out the print that Malvynhad pointed out, and successfully makes a copy of the shape on his map. Piero steps over next to him, "Hmm. Interesting trick. Who will we show it to? Or where will we even find someone at this hour?"
Knapcomes over to speak to the frog that Meihas managed to corral. The frog seems to have a curious look as the Satyr begins to talk to him. But he replies in frog-speech, "Strange big frog earlier. And weird color frogs. Gone now." It sounds like them being gone is a good thing.
Mei blushes slightly at Mal's light-hearted teasing as she lifts her new friend from the water and wades back to shore.
The amateur frog-wrangler emerges from the pond wet, mucky, and with various grasses and leaves stuck in the ends of her long braids, not at all looking like the heroes of her romance novels who come traipsing from the water. She gently passes the amphibian to Knap, feeling he and Guardok were already asking great questions, then pads over to where the prints were found. First, she inspects the shoe types and sizes and then the strange frog-like prints. As she crouches down, she whispers a little Guidance to herself, glancing sidelong at Piero as he continues to make very... specific inquiries.
((Investigation: Natural 20+6+4 (guidance) 30 Nature if needed, though was hoping she might be able to put clues together about the size and shape of frog print with Investigation too!: 2+6 8))
How Mei wishes she looked emerging from the pond: How Mei actually looks:
Guardok looks at Piero as he asks his questions, getting abit distracted from Knapp and his frog conversation.
"Anyone who wants to see it can see it", he says with a shrug. "I expect Professor Lang might be interested and know a bit or two", he says mentioning the Professor they just had for Magical Physiologies.
Meiis able to glean a few clues from the footprints. The frog-like one has depressions that are not quite as deep as the others, suggesting that the being making them was smaller and lighter. She notices that one of the larger prints has a unique marking - one of the small nails connecting the sole to the show seems to have worked loose and was bent. It would make it very easy to identify that shoe, if you were to run across it. You can also surmise that it came from a creature a bit larger than a human in size. Unfortunately, you cannot identify the frog-like prints.
Malvynalso is not able to quite recall the identity of the frog-like prints. But he does think that he has read about such creatures somewhere. He thinks with some quick research he might be able to figure it out. Especially with the perfect image of the print that Guardokhad created.
Pierogives Guardoka brief nod as he mentions approaching Professor Lang. "Ah, she does seem like the right sort to know. If we can find her."
Mei explains what she’s noticed about the prints to the others then quickly sketches copies of them just in case they can’t find anyone within an hour.
“Maybe we could try the faculty offices—“ her words grow quieter as she follows the prints into the bushes, popping up to finish, “—first? Or, hm… the Witherbloom Campus?”
She disappears in the bushes a moment before appearing again. “Did they say if they saw who fed them, Knap?”
((Questions! Are the shoes the same as the ones issued with the student-mage uniforms? And were the frog-like ones bipedal or quadrupedal? And do the prints look like they lead toward anywhere specific?))
Guardok smiles at Mei as she starts to draw the image he magically created on the map, "You know I can just renew the magic whenever I want? But maybe a good idea in case I forget".
After a few moments thought, he replies about Professor Lang. "I am not sure my way around Witherbloom Campus. Perhaps the faculty offices would be best to go first. Is that in the Biblioplex, or somewhere else?", he calls after Mei as she disappears in to the bushes, even as he looks on his campus map for the answer.
Mei looks like a blushing bush baby as she pops out from the brush again, wide-eyed. “You can? Oh. You can!” she says, realizing it’s the same cantrip she herself can use. “S-Sorry.”
She pulls a twig from her purple hair as she too thinks about where Professor Lang’s office might be.
Malvyn too sets out to investigate the scene, hoping to find something out of the ordinary that would give a clue to who fed the black goo to the frogs.
