"I believe he said he would respectfully decline," Mae suddenly retorted. "Your invitation has been noted, and I'm sure we can find you again if any of us are interested." Her tone was on the testy side, edging herself to be slightly between Quintellius and the rest of the group.
Quntillius shifts his attention fully back to Mae. "I'm sorry if I have somehow offended the glorious singer," he replies. "I was asked to be here to recruit for the Playactors Drama Guild. And I merely offered the Satyr here some information in case he didn't already know." He sounds very sincere in his words. He makes a small bow. "I apologize if I slowed down your scavenger hunt. I did not know you were so focused on those tasks! Please, do not let me stand in the way."
He steps away, giving a little wave to Mei. "Until we meet again."
Mae stared back but bit her tongue as the man finally walked off. "Yes, the scavenger hunt, where were we off to next?"She had a mild bit of irritation still in her voice but was clearly calming down as her hand reached back into her bag where her small drum was and began running her fingertips over the head again slowly.
"Oh! N-No, it's my fault, I'm sorry!" Mei speaks up, taking a haphazard step forward to Quentillius' step back, desperate to smooth things over between everyone. "I should've asked before pointing anyone out or--or speaking for them. That was horribly rude of me."
As he walks away, and while the group discusses where to go next, Mei jogs after Quentillius.
She smiles apologetically when she reaches him, feeling horribly guilty for setting him up for failure like she had, and asks him to wait a moment as she searches through her bag. From it emerges a small bundle, wrapped in a bunny and moon patterned cloth. She hands it to him and exchanges a few words about its contents of sesame rice crackers and dorayaki and the hope he'll remember to eat while he's working on the Drama Guild's behalf.
With that, she hurries back to her hunting party, tripping once on her slippers as she does so. A less-than-graceful recovery keeps her on her feet as she rejoins the group.
Quentillius is mildly surprised as Meicomes after him. After taking the bundle that Meioffered, he takes her hand, giving it a brief kiss. Whatever words he says are lost to everyone but Mei.
"This is such a thoughtful offer. I'm quite speechless." As he takes her hand to give it the very briefest of kisses, he adds. "My thanks."
Mellori is becoming a little impatient now, and although she was able to control her speech, the rest of her body was not as well trained. Her brows were knitting and her left foot was tapping lightly on the ground.
She perked up when Mae brought the subject back to the scavenger hunt and glanced around, expectantly at the rest of the group. "So...where to now?"
As the pretentious actor again interjects himself, the purple-skinned tiefling is simply fuming. Didn't that arrogant flamboyant excuse for a man not have his own group of first-year student floories to harass with his false honeyed words? Malvyn smirks briefly as Mae finally tells the rude interloper off, but then he just starts fuming again as Mei hurries after him. "Well, before we were intrerrupted...again...I remember suggesting we could visit the café next." He simply says, barely containing is anger, standing with his arms crossed now. Whichever direction the group goes, Malvyn stays back a bit, seeming to be in a terrible mood, his fiery eyes glaring back at Quint.
Knap’s more or less forced smile morphs into something genuine if not a little smug as Mae gives Quentillius an earful. Knap twiddles his thumbs until Quentillius has moved on. “Mae, you’re the best! That was kinda awesome. I owe you one.” He continues twiddling his thumbs until Mei returns. “Mei no need to apologise. He’s just a lot, right? Not villainous or anything but…” Knap notices Malvyn’s discontent and changes topic mid sentence “yeah, let’s go to the cafe.” Knap begins walking in that direction "oh, and I was wondering if people ever commission biographies?"
Guardok stands rooted to the spot, a little stupefied by what just happened. He looks from Mae to Knap to Mal trying to read their emotions and see if they were truly annoyed by the appearance of Quentillius. He has to admit he finds their fellow student a tad insufferable as well, which is why he decided to prank him the previous day, but he didn't feel that strongly against him.
In truth he had been about to ask about stage hands, and whether they were part of the Drama Guild or if it was a paid job, but he hadn't really had the chance.
"You know, there might be something in that Playactors Drama Guild. If they need the same sort of special effects as the circus. I wonder if any of their plays are more physical in nature, like acrobatics or mock sword-play", he says to no-one in particular as he watches Quentillius head off. "Cheer Squad, Gymnastics, Actors Guild. There is just too much choice here", he decides as he shrugs and turns to head towards the cafe with everyone else.
With each student having received a hooded lantern (everyone can add this to your inventory, it is full of oil as well), you venture off towards the entrance of the Biblioplex where you recall seeing the café earlier. As you enter, you see several students enjoying drinks and snacks. The place seems relatively busy. A gnomish woman seems to be alone behind the counter.
Mei walked silently next to Malvyn for a time, a means of apology that she hoped wouldn't disturb him, before rejoining the others ahead in case he might prefer to be alone. As they enter the cafe, Mei bumps her arm against Guardok's and says, sincerely but not without a bit of cheek, "I'm very curious what you'd have done for being born on the stage."
At sight of the lone gnome, she glances back at Malvyn. "Do you think we should give the list to her? Though she seems awfully busy..." Mei worries at her bottom lip, hoping they won't be a bother with the scavenger hunt while she's trying to do her job.
Walking over to the café, the purple-skinned tiefling's fiery red eyes briefly glare at Mei as she comes to walk by his side, but then it changes to a brief weak and embarrassed smile, turning a bit sad as he continues, his fiery red eyes looking down the rest of the walk. He seems at least somewhat collected again as the group arrives at the café, where he promptly walks up to the busy gnome behind the counter. "Apologies but I believe I have something for you." He says with all the politeness he can muster.
Mellori falls in with the rest of the group as they reach the café. Given the conversations plus the business of the gnome, she decides to pick a table of students at random and approaches them. "Hi, Mellori. First-year." She smiles. "Scavenger hunt. Is there an art gallery here? Just we think it might be the answer to one of the clues. Thanks."
Guardok smiles up at Mei, "I confess it is not something I have ever considered before, and I guess I will likely never have cause to try. Unless it is some initiation for the Playactors Drama Guild and I decide to join of course". He ponders for a moment before adding, "I expect if I did join I would end up being cast as a small tree or something". He stops for a moment and spreads his arms and one leg out akin to branches whilst he balances on the other before bursting out laughing and toppling over. "You think they are too serious for the likes of me to join?".
When they get to the cafe, as Mavlyn speaks to the gnomish woman behind the counter and Mellori goes to talk to some students, he looks about for a menu.
For those in the café, you notice one wall is covered with a mural made from a living tree’s roots. It moves occasionally and makes the entire place feel alive. The ceiling is covered in painted leaves, colored with the bright oranges, reds, and yellows of autumn.
The gnome turns to Malvyn, looking harried but still greeting him with a smile. "How can I help you? You said you want to give me something?"
Those at the table Mellori approaches all appear to be first-year students. One male Half-elf glances up to you with a grin. "Scavenger Hunt? You're still working on that silly thing? Why not just sit down, take a break, have a drink with us!"
Another Halfling girl responds. "Yea, this is a library, why would there be an art gallery? But do join us! Are you excited for classes to start?"
As Guardok looks for a menu, he finds it very easy to locate! Coffee and tea are 1 cp per cup. A variety of baked goods - muffins, cupcakes, and cookies - are available for 2 cp each. And many different sandwiches are available for 3 cp. Today's sandwich special is Grilled Halloumi with Morels on Wheat. For 3 cp it includes a drink.
"Yes, well I think so at least..." The purple-skinned tiefling says, giving the gnome the list of clues, glad that Mei took her notes about them earlier. "...we're here at orientation..."he continues, but then he realizes all people in first-year uniforms are probably here on orientation. "...ehm, and I think we are meant to give you this, and then there was something about enjoying a refreshment."He finshes with a hopefully polite smile, then looking around at the others from his floor, hoping they were with him on this course of action.
On her way to Malvyn at the counter, Mei passes by the table of students Mellori is speaking with and squints at their words. Lotus-eaters.
As she comes to stand next to the tiefling, she adds, "It's for the scavenger hunt," and a warm smile to his. "Though we're sorry to be interrupting your work, we know you must be busy!"
((Can Mei insight check the two at the table in passing? Insight: 12- argh, so mid))
"Ah! Well, I'm Aisla Fitzbottom, and I need help!" she says in a spirited tone to Malvyn. "Quickly! Grab your fellow students and come behind the counter. We need to restock! Then we'll get you something."
She goes and grabs a couple of bags, giving you just a moment to get some of the others.
To Mei, the gnome smiles. "No need to apologize, just help out!"
You don't really get a good indication about the Halfling girl. But the Half-elf seems to really just be more interested in relaxing than doing the scavenger hunt.
