Mae had followed the rest of the group quietly after the earlier interaction, but perked up a bit when the gnome asked for help, quickly volunteering to assist and give her mind something else to think about.
"Oh, right! Of course!" Mei exclaims. "If, um, if it's extra hands you need--" she pops the latch to her tarot cards and summons the Unseen Servant card, "--we can certainly help with that!"
She flits about like a busy bee as she assists with the restocking and instructs her invisible helper to do the same.
"If you need to get anything to or from the top shelves, I think I can be a big help with that!"she says with a little grin, fluttering her wings lightly.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Relishing in the autumnal décor Knap twirls on entry to the cafe. He slowly wanders to the counter arriving just in time to hear the gnome’s invitation. “Happy to help!” Knap makes his way to the other side of a counter and begins tidying a bit like a teenager would. He moves mugs from one place on a bench or counter to another place on a bench or counter without much thought for where they go. He stocks boxes of tea in impractical piles that wobble. He uses way too many napkins to wipe down something already vigorously cleaned by some invisible force floating around. All the while he watches the beautiful wall shifting, weaving and unweaving ever so slightly before his eyes. He turns to the gnome, “Really nice place you have here. Would it be possible to take a clipping from the mural on the wall?”
“I’ve got to say,” Knap, addresses everyone, “this is giving me some 4th floor reno’ inspo’.”
As Maeand Mei come forward to help, Aisla waves them to come back behind the counter. She hops down from the little platform she'd been standing on and points to some Heward's Handy Haversacks in the back. Chara joins them before the gnome has even explained anything.
There are two piles. "Ones on the left are sandwiches, and they go there." She points to a storage rack near the front counter. "The others are baked goods, those can go here." She again points, this time at a display rack right up on one end of the counter. "Ok! Time's wasting!"
It's only then that the gnome spies the aimless stacking that Knapis doing. "WHAT are you doing?" she asks in a loud clear voice. Although somehow she doesn't come off sounding mean, just loud. "Don't need anyone doing pointless busy-work. Think you can unload a sack? Or maybe you should just make sure one of those chairs over there doesn't get away by sitting on it!" Again, she doesn't seem angered, she just genuinely wants anyone not actually helping to move off. She gives Knap a smile, grabs a couple of the poorly stacked items, and returns them to where they had been.
As others come up (Mellori, Malvyn, Guardok), Aisla briefly describes where the contents of each type of bag goes and directs them to even out which items are being worked on.
(OOC - Anyone trying to help out roll a Dexterity Check. Not everyone has to help out. And while Knap technically 'helped', he only needs roll if he actually helps with sandwiches and baked goods.)
Mei begins to slow as her sleepless night catches up. Reflexes dulled, a blueberry muffin nearly doesn't make it into the display case as she fumbles the baked good. It's snatched from the air by unseen hands and floats safely onto the rack. With a sigh of relief, she pinches at her cheeks and gives herself a little guidance. "C'mon, Fujimori. This is no time for a nap," she says before getting back to work.

"I'm...I'm Malvyn." The purple-skinned tiefling says, his smile turning more natural now. "You have a nice place here, I will likely be a frequent customer." He adds in a polite tone, seeming relieved as Mei and his other floories comes to his aid, and he immediately moves in behind the counter and starts bringing sandwiches into the indicated storage rack near the front counter, trying to do it efficiently as time seemed to be of the essence.
(OOC: I saw that it put up the 'potentially manipilated' tag, even though I didn't edit the post, I'm just going to quote the roll before the forum ACTUALLY changes the result...)

Guardok also wanders behind the counter and looks to start shifting around the baked goods as instructed. He is incredibly tempted by the smell though, which he finds quite distracting.
“You’ve got magical chairs!” Without waiting for an answer Knap trots back out from the counter to an empty chair, sits his rump down and places his hands on his knees. You can see the look of concentration on his face as he helps gravity do its thing. “Don’t worry, I got this.”
While sitting and stopping the chair from running off, Knap tries to listen in on any conversations happening around him.I wonder what clues everyone's found.

Mellori's face dropped when she realised she'd asked other first-years about the scavenger hunt. The disappointment turned to surprise when she realised they were not in the least bit interested. Shaking her head slightly, she turned to where the others appeared to now be working at the café. "I guess it can't do any harm to help," she mused, "if only to speed us up in getting to the next clue. Although mother always complained I was all fingers and thumbs..."
(Dex check: Nat 1. Mae inadvertantly makes a bigger mess than she intended and apologizes profusely while trying to put things aright, feeling utterly embarrassed.)
Maeends up proving her own earlier comment to Zanther about not being good on her feet. She rushes to grab a bag and set to work, when she stumbles a bit. Sandwiches threaten to tumble out, but thankfully she grabs it up before any actually do. But as she swings her arm, she catches the rack where the sandwiches were to be put, toppling it over.
"Oh my! Well, at least that was almost empty!" Aisla says. "Are you alright my dear? We'll get everything straightened away." She helps Mae up, then helps right the rack. Only a couple sandwiches have to be thrown out.
Both Mei and Chara are a wonderful help. They deftly get the sandwiches back into the racks and even help with restocking the baked goods too.
Knap is amazingly successful at keeping the chair from moving. He must have a real talent for this. He isn't sure why Aisla gives him a strange look now and then though. He does hear a number of group talking. Some mention searching the Book Gardens. He heard someone talking about the Information Desk. And he even heard mention of some painting in an art gallery.
Malvyn, Guardok, and Mellori all make their way behind the counter to help out a well. They all contribute to getting everything restocked while the gnome manages to get a few other things cleaned up and rearranged as well.
"Thanks to all of you! I very much appreciate your help," Aisla says. "I'd be glad to have any of you back to help anytime." She seems to pointedly look at Mae as she says this. "Now, you clearly deserve a reward. You may all have a sandwich or baked good and a cup of what ever beverage you prefer." She glances over to Knap. "Even your Satyr friend there."
"Oh! And for going above and beyond in your aid, I have something extra for two of you. Ah, just a moment." The gnome hurries back, somehow climbs up to the top of one of the back shelves and returns with two small objects. Coming back over to Mei and Chara, she hands each a small box. "An extra award for your exceptional help."
The rectangular box is intricately carved, with inlaid pieces of amber. They are clearly a puzzle box, with no obvious way of opening.
Mae thanks the little lady but refuses any food or drink, apologizing again and quickly making an exit out of the cafe. She stood just a little ways outside the door and closed her eyes for a long minute, her hand brushing her drum again in her bag and humming softly to herself, listening to the noises of things around her as well, but not paying real attention to any of them.
Chara gives Aisla a little smile as she takes her sandwich, drink, and puzzlebox.
"Well... thank you," she says, turning the box over in her hands a couple of times trying to make sense of it. "I'd be more than happy to help you out again!"
She pauses as she sees Mae leave... the tiefling hesitates for a moment, before following her out. She gently puts a hand on Mae's shoulder.
"Mae... are you alright?" she asks, her voice filled with concern.

Mae took a deep breath and half looked at Chara. "Yes, I'll be alright. Miserable performances happen to all of us, but that doesn't mean that are easy to take." She pulled her hand back out of her bag. "Well that's a few clues down, might as well finish this orientation, yes? And do let me know how the food and drink are, maybe I'll come back another day."
Mellori accepts a cup of tea, but declines the offer of food. In part because she'd only recently finished breakfast and also because there was nothing she would normally eat. Then, a thought occurred to her. Not a usual one and its appearance shocked her slightly. She returns to the gnome and says, "Actually, can I have a chocolate muffin, if it's not too much trouble."
Taking the sweet treat, she remembers her mother's words about chocolate being something that can make just about anyone feeling better. Following the others, she offers the muffin to Mae. "For later..." she said with a smile.
She still couldn't explain why she did it, but for some reason it felt like the right thing to do.
The purple-skinned tiefling finishes up and seem pleased over the groups performance. He doesn't fail to notice Mae seems distraught though and feels he wants to comfort the kind and gentle Aasimar but he has no clue of how to do it in a not very awkward way, so he's quite relieved when both Chara and Mellori takes good care of the sweet angelic girl. There was this feeling, in his heart he realized, it felt good seeing people care for others, not something he had much experience of, at all. Maybe he could try it himself.
"I'm sure my roomie Knap will appreciate one of your Grilled Halloumi sandwiches." He says to the gnome, wanting nothing for himself. He then walks over to his satyr roomie who is performing an admirable task of making sure his magical chair is staying in place, offering him the Halloumi sandwich. "Here you go roomie, hope it's to your liking. I think we may be moving on to the next station now but the Aisla seemed very pleased with your contribution."He says in a sincere tone with a friendly smile.
"What do you say, ready move on?" He asks a bit later as Chara and Mellori seems to have comforted Mae and the floories are all gathered around again. "I think the next clue was These leafy beds aren’t always what they seem. Give them a pat and see what you glean. I can anly assume we should head over to the garden and find some greenery to pat? He says, ready to move on to the Book Garden, thinking this could be his roomie's time to shine with his apparent interest for things of nature.
Knap holds the halloumi sandwich to his mouth and chomps away while slowly rising from his seat. He turns to face the chair and moves away from it backwards, ready to take an heroic seat at any moment. “I’ve learned not to underestimate so-called inanimate things. My grandmother’s best friend was a rock.”
“Thanks for the sandwich, Malvyn. Wow, we all really made a good team just then. Let’s hope we do it for the next clues…to the garden book? Ahhh the garden bed? Whatever it is, to the leafy place!” He says as though the admirable chair sitting had inspired some leadership in him.
Knap trot/shuffle/hops in the direction of the Book Garden.
