"Just a few scratches," replies Berry while looking frantically about if any more twig blights show themselves. "Guess we found the plant monsters, now there are still zombies somewhere. And yet no sign of a druid"
Once it is confirmed that the twig blights met their end, Berry starts searching the ruin for any sign that a druid was here (Perception/Survival: 16). Perhaps, he planted or cared for the new trees that grow now? Perhaps, he had been here and saw the twig blights and run away? In any case, Berry will also infuse the living plants with magic to help them take stronger roots. Anything that lives must be strengthened so that nature can reclaim this place if men won't.
vidruth, seeing marten shoot again, unhurried and well aimed, followed by a blast of something sickeningly familiar from perrin, declines to add to the fusillade, "i am nearly unharmed perrin" he says, slight irritation present in his voice "a scratch, nothing more" with that he steps inside "all well?" he asks, the hand following him, and stopping in the gap he sees on the other side of the building

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
quote from Romantically Apocalyptic byVitaly S Alexius
With the building cleared Nosam moves back outside and prepares for the next move. "If we're all good I say we keep clearing the area. Which way we ya want to go... wanting to stay together or split up a bit to scout it quicker? If we decide to split we shouldn't wander off too far."
Movement: move to J5 or available square outside the building Action: None Bonus Action: None Free Action: Talking
Perrin recalls his first thought when he saw these buildings:
"These ruined, side-by-side cottages look as though they might have been the homes of prosperous shopkeepers or well-off farmers in their time."
Prosperous. "Before you all scamper off, let's take a look around. I don't disagree that we should keep clearing the area, but let's see if these things have anything useful on them." Blimey, what sort of adventurers don't bother to search the bodies? Lucky for them I came along. Perrin then begins rummaging about, looking the twig blights and the cottage over for items of value. Investigation: 21
Marten’s crossbow bolt impales the final twig blight to the far cabin wall where it de-animates and transforms into a normal dead bramble. Almost. Before it finishes moving, Perrin blasts it and its pieces explode throughout the little room.
Berry starts searching the ruin for any sign that a druid was here (Perception/Survival: 16).
It is hard to say. Now that the party has entered the cabin, footprints are hard to parse. Perhaps someone’s bare feet left marks on the dusty floor at some point. Perhaps not.
Nosam: move to J5 or available square outside the building
Nosam takes a position outside the crumbling structure. The ruin has regained its eerie silence.
Perrin then begins rummaging about, looking the twig blights and the cottage over for items of value. Investigation: 21
Perrin sees nothing of value. But he notices that a couple of the twig blights’ pieces seem to be slowly moving. Looking much closer – he has to squat and practically touch the twigs with his nose – he sees that the branches are not moving of their own accord. About a dozen very small Grass Blights are slowly and mournfully carrying away the twig blight pieces – the bones of the giant gods of the grass blights, one might surmise – in a tiny funeral procession. So far they have moved two of the pieces one inch each. There is nothing of value in the room, although there are clues that there were once works of art hanging on the walls, and a few ancient pottery shards were probably rather fine, before the volcanic apocalypse that destroyed the populace.
Vidruth:the hand following him, and stopping in the gap he sees on the other side of the building. The neighboring building is similar to this one, but unoccupied. Nothing responds to the presence of the Hand.
With the building cleared Nosam moves back outside and prepares for the next move. "If we're all good I say we keep clearing the area. Which way we ya want to go... wanting to stay together or split up a bit to scout it quicker? If we decide to split we shouldn't wander off too far."
Marten walks around to the door and enters the ruined cottage through the north-facing entrance. As he passes Nosam, he says, "You 'n' your hammer made quick work o' them plant monsters. I reckon we ought t' stick t'gether in case we run into more of 'em." He's thinking of the trouble they had with all of the Redbrands underneath Tresendor Manor, and he doesn't want to get the group all spread out like they did there.
Marten suggests going next to the more intact building that they passed (location #3). He explains, "I don' want t' leave a monster behind us. Best to check every buildin' as we go."
When Marten enters the ruin again, he gives Perrin an approving nod. He held his own during the fight, and while Perrin doesn't seem to be a wizard, he clearly has some sort of magic. Marten feels like the halfling makes a good addition to their little group, at least until they find Reidoth, and maybe beyond that.
Vidruth:the hand following him, and stopping in the gap he sees on the other side of the building. The neighboring building is similar to this one, but unoccupied. Nothing responds to the presence of the Hand.
Marten looks at the wizard's earthen hand with wide eyes. "How long'll that last?", he asks Vidruth, pointing at the hand.
If Vidruth can maintain the spell for a few more rounds, Marten proposes that they take it across the road to location 3 in case there are more monsters there. Once they're sire that that building is clear, they can return to search the other ruined cottage (the eastern one of the two at location #2).
If Vidruth's spell is about to expire, then he'll help Vidruth investigate the eastern cottage at location #2 while Perrin searches the one where they found the twig blights. Once they're done searching the cottages, he still wants to go to location #3 next before they move deeper into the town.
"maybe thirty-forty more seconds? it was a terrible waste, but i didnt know how strong the things would be, i just hope i wont need it later" he likes martens plan to quickly sweep location 3 for hostiles, and says so

Perrin watches the grass blights perform their floral funeral rites with fascination. Did the others notice this? Why would such creatures honor their dead? Did they have a culture of their own? Would such a thing simply sprout up? "Do you think this druid made these things? Maybe we shouldn't mention that we... uh, subdued his friends. Assuming they're his friends, I mean. And I'm very much in favor of sticking together."
Nosam is glad for what seems to be a general consensus about sticking together. He moves quickly across the way to the next building in need of clearing (3). "I'm happy to head on in when we're ready."
If Nosam's movement needs another round before proceeding inside the building he will wait on alert outside at his max movement distance. Passive Perception 10 (rolled a 7)
If Nosam can enter this round he will proceed just inside the door and hold for the others.
Berry didn’t find anything worthwhile within the ruins and didn’t think it a good idea to linger too long. He joins Nosam, “I’m right behind you, Nosam. But remember I don’t see as well in the dark, let me know if there’s anything hostile in there, or better if we can pull it out?”

Marten follows the others to location 3 and loads a bolt into his crossbow. He says, "Prob'bly best t' get inside 'n' hold th' door if you can. Otherwise, we might get surrounded. Do you want t' light a torch? M'ybe Perrin 'r Vidruth could hold it?" Marten looks to Perrin and Vidruth to see whether one of them has a free hand. He needs both hands free for his crossbow.
"But if it looks bad, jus' tell us t' fall back, 'n' Vidruth, Perrin, 'n' I will go back t' th' prev'us ruins," Marten says, nodding his head back toward location #2 where they fought the twig blights. "You 'n' Berry can lure 'em back there, 'n' we can cover you."
Marten either heads to the window (see below) or positions himself 10 ft. southwest of the door.
(OOC: @1973 - Is that a window to the right / east of the door on the map in post #1347? Is it open? Or is it blocked or shuttered in some way? If it's open, that may let enough light into the building. If there's enough of an opening at the window for Marten to see and fire through it, he'll want to position himself at the window on J4 before Nosam opens the door. That way, he can hopefully target anything that attacks Berry or Nosam without causing a traffic jam by the door.)
Perrin nodded along with Marten's suggestions, agreeing that the plan was sound. "Berry, I think this should solve our visibility problem." With that, the halfling holds his staff aloft, and =light emanates from the tip of his staff. He grins impishly at the fey barbarian. "Alright, let's proceed. Keep your eyes peeled for plants and zombies. And druids, I suppose."
A description of Building 3, reprising what I wrote before, and with a few more details:
A weathered signboard by the door of this large building shows the faded image of a workhorse holding a flagon of ale. The building is sagging and dilapidated, but it is more intact than the ruins across the road. Still, it is a rundown, ramshackle stone cottage. Its wooden doors are swollen and require a successful DC 10 Strength check to force open. The windows are 2 feet wide and covered by weather-beaten wooden shutters which could probably be forced open from the outside (DC10 STR check).
If Nosam can enter this round he will proceed just inside the door and hold for the others.
Berry: I’m right behind you, Nosam.
(OOC:
- I’m going to say Vidruth’s spell has 5 rounds remaining. I have added a token for it that looks more like a zombie hand.
- @Ben: see the building description above in answer to your positioning question.)
- Perrin’s Light spell has a token. The effects are nil out of doors, but once the door opens, let’s remember that it will shine inside.)
I believe you are positioned like so:
If this is correct, then Nosam’s action will proceed and the door will open. Ready?
(OOC: Ready! Marten's position is good. He's not strong enough to risk the shutters, and with a deadline on Vidruth's spell, he doesn't want to take the time to borrow a crowbar to pry them open.)
Berry leans against Nosam‘s back - slightly pushing him forward - while trying to get a good look inside as soon as Nosam opens the door. (Ready, shield and scimitar in hand)
(OOC: Is this a ready check or is this for next round of actions?)
(It’s a ready check. However, can you please also roll a DC10 Strength check for Nosam to open the door? You can roll with advantage since Berry is there to Help.)
vidruth would have the hand right next to the door because it cant move and grab in the same turn, but otherwise ready!
