Berry peeks inside the room that he just now opened and spots a back door. „Marten, there’s a back door in the next room that leads to the other side! If you want to stay outside but observe the other room, check it out.” Then he waits for the other to respond or act but is ready to dodge anything coming at him.
Since nothing seems to attack Berry in the current room, Marten follows Berry's advice. He pops up from hiding and says, "I'm headin' 'round back," before he dashes out of sight around the southeast corner of the building.

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

I almost forgot to mention that Nosam’s blow smashed the zombie’s left arm to smithereens. The smithereens billow in a fetid ashy cloud around Nosam. (Nosam: Any living creature within 5 feet of the zombie must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or gain disadvantage on attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on it early with a successful save.)
The ash zombie slashes Nosam with the cleaver it holds in its bare-fleshed hand.
Ash Zombie 4 v Nosam: 23 to hit / 4 HP slashing damage
Marten zips around to the back of the ruined tavern and throws open the door, offering him a view of the melee.
Perrin and Vidruth enter the inn. Perrin’s Hex and Eldritch blast send the creature spinning, but as it rises once more and raises its cleaver numbly over Berry, Vidruth’s firebolt roars through the doorway, setting the undead on fire. It falls to its knees, groaning hungrily, its cleaver drops, and then it falls to the ground, dead. Again.
All enemies are now vanquished and the company is all together in the inn.
Berry pokes with his scimitar in more ash piles to make sure there aren’t any smart zombies hiding and looking to ambush the group later. „Don’t think there’s anything here,“ he says. „Now we found the plant monsters and the zombies, next stop should be the one who put up the sign. I‘ve seen a tower just east of this building. I wouldn’t expect a Druid to dwell in a tower but you never know.“ As soon as he checked that there aren’t more zombies, Berry leaves quickly, „What a dark ruin, I certainly won’t spend the night in this establishment.“
Marten chuckles at Perrin's joke as the party finishes off the fourth zombie. With the doors and some windows open, hopefully the building airs out quickly, and the ash clouds dissipate. Despite the ash, now that the zombies have been destroyed, he thinks that the structure seems relatively sturdy and safe. As he looks around, he says says, "If we get in trouble or get separated later, we should retreat back here. We could prob'ly defend this base from a whole horde o' zombies."
In response to Perrin's earlier comment about his druid friend, Marten says, "I reckon Reidoth put up th' warning sign. I don' think th' zombies are his. Maybe not even them angry shrubs. Seems like he jus' found 'em here, 'n' maybe he'll be glad for some help clearin' 'em out?"
Marten feels like there's no real hurry to move on now that Vidruth's "hand" spell is finished, and he suggests searching this ruin to see whether there's anything useful or valuable in it before they head south. If the others want to stay and search the ruin, he offers to keep watch at the south of the building to make sure nothing sneaks up on them from that direction while they're busy searching. Perception21

To be clear, once they're finished searching, Marten is ready to continue on south. He offers to take the lead and scout a little ahead as before. The sounds of fighting may have alerted others of their presence in Thundertree, but Marten has the best chance of spotting a hidden foe before the group walks into an ambush.
„You want me to fly quick up that tower?“ asks Berry pointing east. „I can check from the air if there’s any sign of trouble from there.“
If Berry decides to fly up to the tower, Marten can't stop him, but he tries to discourage Berry from exposing himself yet. Marten isn't great at "pretty words." He just says, "I thank'ee, Berry, but if you get into trouble there, we won' be able t' help -- at least, not quickly. Can't you wait 'til later? Once we find Reidoth or m'ybe once we've seen a clear route t' th' tower -- on foot, I mean -- then you can fly up there 'n' take a look about."

The danger seemingly gone, Perrin hopped off of the table and explored the ruined inn. He directs the illuminated tip of his staff toward the corners of the room, searching its environs. "I rather like the sound of that plan. While it's hardly the most pleasant hearth I've seen, it could serve as a defensible shelter in a pinch. Why is it that you think Reidoth isn't responsible for these,? Perrin nudges a nearby zombie corpse with the butt of his staff. "Druids tend to be reclusive sorts, and I wouldn't be surprised if he conjured these to discourage visitors. Oh, anyone hurt?" The halfling looks over his companions, checking for injury.
Marten says, "I don' know many druids, but I met one who talked about th' Circle o' Life, as he called it. A whole thing 'bout life 'n' death 'n' seasons 'n' such. But I remember he said that undeath is diff'rent from death. Unnatural, he called it. An affront t' somethin' or other." Marten shrugs. "I guess we'll find out when we find Reidoth, assumin' that he's still alive."

In the ruined old kitchen, Perrin does indeed find a fine chef’s knife wrapped in an oil cloth which has miraculously survived. It is likely worth at least 10GP, inlaid as it is with mother-of-pearl and silver. And under one of the work tables, another treasure. A chest with a rusted-through lock, easily pried open, containing 700 cp, 160 sp, and 90 gp.

Building 4. This small house appears to be in better condition than the ruined and dilapidated structures nearby. The doors are reinforced with heavy iron bands, and thick shutters protect the windows.
Building 5. This ruin looks as if it might once have been a farmhouse. It is now half swallowed by a dense thicket, with trees growing up through its ruined foundations.
Building 6 has the look of a decrepit general store or workshop. Webs stretch across the lane, from the building to the trees on the north side of the road.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Marten definitely does not want to go toward building 6 (and the webs) next. He proposes that they continue to check (and clear) buildings as they go. That way, they'll hopefully avoid leaving any monsters behind them, which could end up surrounding them later or preventing them from retreating. It looks like the path branches to building 4 next, so he proposes that they check that one. He says, "Looks like someone's fixed up thisun a bit. M'ybe the druid? 'R could be some hobgoblins 'r orcs 'ave moved in?"
Unless the others object, Marten waits for Berry and Nosam to get to close (e.g., I23 and I24) and for Vidruth and Perrin to ready spells if they'd like. He loads his crossbow and then approaches the doors of building 4 slowly, walking as quietly as possible. Stealth23 He goes to the door and listens for sounds of voices or any activity inside. Perception10
Berry nods to Marten’s suggestion, he learned that it is best to listen to the scout’s opinion. He follows Marten to the reinforced door and help to open it or let Marten help him. All the while he is ready to step in should Marten be attacked by anything inside. (Athletics: 11 or 9 with disadvantage)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Perrin extracts the knife reverentially, a grin spreading across his face as he examines his prize. The coins were almost inconsequential compared to such fine craftsmanship, and he fawns over the kitchen knife as he shows his comrades the coin. "Now we just need some plums and peppers, and I'll fix us up a lovely sauce that is just exquisite with lamb. I'd kill for a proper kitchen." The halfling almost seems drawn away at the thought, a farawy look lingering in his eyes as his thoughts drift to a different culinary plane. He snaps back to their present moment, and Following Marten's lead, he moves quietly, eyeing the bushes for unexpected movement. Stealth20 and Perception11.

The company moves toward Building 4. Marten notices that while the building is in better condition than its neighbors, it is still overgrown by ivy, with grasses around its perimeter. The door is locked from the inside, and Marten is unable to open it. There is a lock one could pick, he now observes. However, before he can start, mayhem breaks out.
The moment Marten touches the door, the grasses growing around the base of the house suddenly lash out and wrap around his boots (Grapple attack: 5). The ivy begins to extend away from the walls toward Marten too, threatening to wrap around his arm (Grapple attack: 3). From the eaves of the house, about a thousand spiders crawl down the wall and swarm toward Marten and the rest of the party, at least 6 of them gliding on a breeze toward the party after instantly spinning long strands of webbing that act like parachutes. Meanwhile, a cavalry contingent of perhaps 20 snails appears from behind the grass and starts also to charge toward Marten and the others. Before the party can react, they have moved a full 1/2” toward them. Maybe even 1”.
Behind the party, an aspen sapling has bent over surreptitiously and tucked itself into Perrin’s collar, now suddenly lifting him six inches above the ground (Athletics STR save vs DC5 to escape).
A flurry of butterflies flutters in Berry’s face, and other tufts of grasses grab at Vidruth's and Nosam's boots (Grapple attack: 5).
