Starker will ask for some company/protection as he spends 10 minutes on the ritual sounds, thoughts, poses, and pearl juggling that will hopefully allow him to Identify the glowing maybe-portal.

Are you moving to the deck below, where Cyrus is waiting for you?
Starker, Gneuman and Trolkarl head to the lower deck.
Two stairwells lead to this deck from the upper hold. There are two hatches to the ballast deck below. Many crates and boxes are stacked neatly here. Towards the rear of the ship are doors.
The forward hatch has a glowing purple ring of energy surrounding it. There are floating spores coming through the portal into the cargo hold. Wisps of what appear to be spider webs can also be seen floating in the air here.
Looking through the portal you see what appears to be a reflected image of the cargo hold you are standing in. You can see more spores floating in the air there with webs on the walls. Fungi can be seen growing along the walls in the seams of the wood planks.
Kragen and Chadwick clear the last room in the stern of the ship. Once cleared, wil had forward and ensure those rooms are cleared as well before joining the crew on the lower hold.
Kragen opens the door to a small room with three large trunks inside. They are oaken trunks with stout iron bands. Each has a large lock built-in on the front.

Kragen tells Chadwick, “3 large trunks that are locked, let’s clear front of this hold to ensure no unexpected surprises before we head below with the others.”
Kragen leaves the trunks unmolested and proceeds to investigate the rooms forward in the hold. Starting with the door to the left/west.
This is the galley. Two small stoves sit on the opposite wall. There are sacks, barrels and boxes of food stacked neatly around the walls. A large table sits opposite the stoves with kitchen implements on top. Cookware is stacked below the table and hanging from hooks in the ceiling.
The fires in the stoves are out and the stoves are cold. The dried out remains of a meal prep are seen on the work table.
Starker finishes Identifying the portal, thanks Cyrus, and says “I believe that the portal mimics the function of a Gate spell. As such, it is linked to a specific destination in both directions, this ship and the Demi-plane we see through the portal. I note that this spell, even when cast by an extremely puissant wizard, usually only lasts for a minute. There is something extraordinary going on here. If the power behind it is ill-disposed to us I fear it will be able to destroy us as quickly as we could drown a pillowcase filled with kittens.”
Starker : “Also, I see signs of webbing thtough the portal and am reminded that our Captain adverted to being ambushed by a neogi mind spider ship. The neogi are terrifying, cruel and wicked as any creature in the multiverse...plus.”

Kragen completes a cursory investigation of the room, looking for signs of recent usage or crew activity. After finding nothing of interest, moves to the door in the fore of the ship. Opening and investigating that room. Then will complete a search of the final room toward the bow of the ship.
This appears to be a mess hall. There are several large tables and benches/chairs here. Shelves line the walls with wooden mugs and plates stacked neatly in the deep recesses of the shelves. There is a stairwell leading to the deck below on the stern wall.

Gneuman will assist.

There to support security and an arcana checks needed. Following Starker to whatever deck he is on.
Yup.

Starker casting Identify (which is what I believe you are describing with the pearl) requires him to touch the portal throughout the casting.
Hoid will head down to the danger deck but will stay well away from the portal. Just in case.
Or …. Spells with range touch can be mediated by my familiar, I think. If so, Starker will avail himself of Cyrus’ services as mediator.
True

Presumed that’s means they are securely locked?
Trying each one you find that they locked.
