Kragen nods to Starker, then looks to Chadwick. “I think that a good idea about the leather armor, removing its capabilities to others that may use it for nefarious means. I will join you in compensating The Company for these items.”
”we can determine their worth and Chadwick and I will provide recompense.”
”Shall we go.” To Starker and Chadwick
them turns to leave the Inn and head to the Temple of Moradin.
The Temple of Moradin is located in the underground portion of the city. Thankfully, it is accessible to visitors and the public. Other areas of the underground city are not. You are received by one of the acolytes, "Greetings, brothers. I am Delvheim, acolyte of Moradin. How do you fare today?"
Well met Delvheim. I am Sir Chadwick, and this is Kragen Gravelbeard and Master Starker (gesturing to the others). We come to ask a favor. While Kragen and I are followers of Tyr, we hope the temple of Moradin may be able to assist us as we are similarly aligned in thought and goals.
In our quest of spreading good and law through the realm we recently came into the possession of some evil items that are in the need of destruction. We had planned on doing this at a temple of Tyr, but it seems they are starting to have ill effects on our party. So it seems that it would be prudent to do this sooner than later.
Do you think you temple could aid us in this task?
“Greetings Brother Delvheim. My name is Kragen Gravelbeard, of Clan Delhalls and Cleric of Tyr. This is Sir Chadwick, Palladin of Tyr and Mage Starker.” Motions to each upon introduction
“we are well, thank you. And you? I hope your Hammer has rung true today!”
pauses allowing cordialities to occur.
”we are here seaking council and support from the Soulforger. May we enter and talk privately about a matter of grave concern?”
assuming we enter and can talk privately.
”My compatriots and I (motions to Chadwick and Starker) have been about doing Tyr’s work. We recently had encountered those that come from deep below the Mountain and a demon which had been summoned to our plane. After vanquishing this evil and delivering justice to those of ill character, we recovered some arcane items that have ill intent and reek of death. We have Leather Armor and a Ring that allow the wearer to resist The divine radiant power of Tyr and a Talisman we assume may have been used in the summoning. Mage Starker has attempted to study the artifacts however we seek the church’s assistance in destroying them.”
”Mage Starker is prepared to provide more information. The Ring has an aura that concerns us all and fear it is still tied to a plane of the under dark.” grimaces as he opens the cloth with the Ring and Talisman and shows the acolyte.
“Keeping these items out of those who would use them for nefarious means would be appreciated. Would a priest of the soulforger be able to assist us?”
Delvheim accepts Chadwick's introduction well. His eye grow large at the mention of evil magic items and the desire to destroy them. "This is well beyond my abilities and station," the young dwarf admits. "Perhaps you would be better off speaking with one of the priests," he adds. "I am here to greet the faithful today, but, one of the scribes," he says indicating a table of dwarves with writing implements and books set about, "may be of more assistance."
While this is happening Starker wanders over to the scribes’ table and tries to read what they are writing upside down. If it is in a language he understands he will say “I love books, and it has been weeks since I read a new one. May I read one?” <points to one that usn’t currently being used, if any>
The two scribes are busily writing in their large books as Starker walks up and stands there before their table. He is able to see that they are writing in Dwarvish. It seems to be a record personnel and output of various ores that is being transcribed. After a long interval of time spent one of the scribes looks up to Starker. Hearing Starker's request, he replies, "No." The scribe then goes back to writing.
Starker:”Thank you for your having carefully considered my request and for your gracious refusal. I wish you all the joys of your task and the fulfillment thereunto appertaining.”
Seeing that Starker has gone to discuss your needs with the scribes, Delvheim takes his leave of you to attend to his other duties.
Starker's interaction with the scribes does not appear to be fruitful after a brief exchange that appeared to be awkward from all the way over where the rest of you stand. He returns now.
The temple area has the faithful entering and leaving. It is mostly quiet however. No actual priests are seen about.
Starker:”They seem to be casting very mundane, very secular accounts. They also didn’t seem fond of me. Perhaps Kragen you might have more luck.
“I would like to appeal to you once more about the talisman. I think it is not evil in itself, and that it is possible that we could put it to good use. Trokarl’s sword became the Kyton’s obsession and I am convinced the kyton will try to return to this plane and kill us all and take Trokarl’s blade. The talisman might be our only tool to successfully fight this fell creature and the minions it brings. Destroying the talisman destroys a tool that can be used to fight and constrain an evil creature. Think of the talisman as you would a pair of handcuffs, neither good nor evil in itself.
“At the very least, let us see whether the ring or the talisman or neither that are responsible for our poor sleep.”
“Thank you Delvheim, may the forge favor you today.” Nods as he moves off to the scribes.
Kragen grabs Starker rather abruptly, pulls him closer… and lower. “Master Starker, I would appreciate a modicum of decorum while in the house of the soulforger. Curiousity is fine when it’s not intrusive or unwarranted. Please use your common sense and critical thinking skills to adjust your behavior while here.” Looks at him gruffly.
”your argument, about the Talisman, may have merit if there were more specificity on how we would use it? If the church deems it benign, we can discuss its potential use. Until that time, it represents an artifact that celebrates something evil and not of this plane and therefore a threat to The Company and the people of Faerun!” Releases his arm and heads to the scribes table.
“Well met servants of the DwarfFather!”, “Acolyte Delvheim has suggested we take our business to the Temple Priest.”, “my name is Kragen Gravelbeard, of Clan Delhalls, Cleric of Tyr” introduces Chadwick and Starker.
provides a similar summary requested of the Temple he provided Delvheim. Pauses for response.
The scribe who spoke with Starker finishes the line of text he is writing and then puts his quill down. He looks at Kragen, "Acolyte Delvheim sent you to see us?," he asks. He looks to the other scribe and nods. The second scribe pulls a small piece of parchment from a drawer in the desk and writes upon that before returning it to its drawer in the desk.
The first scribe locks gaze with Kragen for a brief moment. Seeing that he will not as easily be deterred as the human, he says, "Where will you be able to be reached? I will pass along your request to the priests. When someone has time they will reach out to you." He has taken out a new slip of parchment as he speaks and his quill hovers over it, ready.
He adds, “It will likely be a few days until someone is available to meet.”
Chadwick feeling a bit annoyed at being dismissed so readily on a matter he holds in great importance adds "We are staying at (insert name of our inn), however we need to leave at first light. While my dwarven friends have taught me the importance of 'hurry the heat, ruin the blade' we have reason to believe a great evil is coming to the area around Everlund so we'll be riding hard to hopefully head it off.
If it's not possible to see to the destruction of these items today, do you know where we might be able to procure a lead lined box or chest?"
To Kragen and Starker he adds "I remembered something the Paladins lectures on how our Divine sense can be blocked by lead. Perhaps it will help protect us from the ill effects of the items."
Starker, beaming:”Friend Chadwick, you astonish me!!! What an interesting hypothesis, and one we can test empirically and dispositively! It would never occur to me that the properties of lead (ductility and density) could have effects beyond the merely physical. What a gift of knowledge you have given me, Young Paladin!”
Starker coughs up the 25 gp and buys another couple of sets of 6 fitted lead sheets so he can experiment with screening efficacy as a function of thickness and also so he can see if he can collimate the beam of ill-emanations and turn it into a directed energy weapon. He is mutterring to himself:”waves or particles? Slots, how thin, how far apart? Test subject? Cyrus? No, that’d be two experiments simultaneously and may confound the results … perhaps I can find some woodland creature or buy a small child …”
Kragen nods to Starker, then looks to Chadwick. “I think that a good idea about the leather armor, removing its capabilities to others that may use it for nefarious means. I will join you in compensating The Company for these items.”

The scribe takes down your names and the inn you are staying at. He expects it will be a few days for someone to get back to you.
He suggests the smiths and carpenters on the surface for buying a chest.
You can find a carpenter who can modify a strong box with a lining of lead sheets. It is 25gp.
Starker coughs up the 25 gp and buys another couple of sets of 6 fitted lead sheets so he can experiment with screening efficacy as a function of thickness and also so he can see if he can collimate the beam of ill-emanations and turn it into a directed energy weapon. After they get the strongbox if there is still time for shopping....
"I would like to see about acquiring some barding for Freya, but I think it's best if we stick together while we have those (nodding to box) with us."
