Chadwick knocks Starker’s lump of bat guano from his hand, rudely. So rudely. The forming humanoid figure does not respond to his question. Sticking his sword out causes the area immediately around the sword to dissipate faster that it can coalesce, making an empty space. The figure remains non- reactive and non-responsive.
Chadwick turns back to Starker glaring "Are ya done with the trying to blow us all up nonsense?!" Not waiting for a reply...
"Good. Now tell us WHAT is going on here, and WHY did you summon this thing?" Turns to face demon 'Or did you just pop out of there are your own?" Glowering and more sword waving through wispy demon.
Starker:”My good friend and trusted companion, I had nothing whatsoever to do with this apparition or manifestation, as far as I know. I will go stand in the corner whilst you and Kragen consider what to do. Call on me if needed. Forgive my muscle memory causing me to reach for the components needed for a fireball. I am almost certain I would not have used that particular spell in these circumstances. It would have been uncharacteristic of me.
”Cyrus: go find Hoid and the bard and encourage them to join us.”
Kragen heads to Starkers room, thinking to himself (WTH). Knowing this would happen he spent time in preparation prior to retiring for the night.
prior to entering the room casts Protection from Evil L1 on himself.
once he enters the room, pulls a piece of leather with a crude Pentacle scribed on it. Begins to pray to Tyr… “send this aberration back to its own plane, Justice bringer!”
The creature forming of smoke and shadow disappears when Kragen completes his spell, DC14 save = 13. Kragen can concentrate for up to 1 minute. When the spell ends the banished creature will return.
There is confusion and bedlam in the halls of the inn now. The inn keeper is helping people flee the building along with Xymox and Trolkarl. Kragen and Chadwick are busily giving Starker some righteous stink-eye while Starker assumes an angelic mien of innocence. Hoid snores.
Chadwick's glare softens with Starker's acquiescence. "So you didn't do anything, it just popped out of the amulet? Was it in the lead lined box at the time?" He asks this while piling in remaining lead sheets into box over the amulet and closing it up.
While waiting for him to respond he looks over at Hoid "Hey buddy, could you grab my pants please?"
Starker:”It was in the box and the box was closed when I went to sleep. I has not attempted any experiments, as I have not been able to obtain a woodland creature or a child.
”Perhaps we can continue our discourse and you could cover your nether region after we have gotten out of this flammable building with the box?”
The lead-lined strongbox containing the amulet and the ring are in Chadwick's possession. The Company members are....somewhat dressed and well armed at this point. The innkeeper is openly irate at all of you and demanding your exit from his inn while trying to coax the others who fled his hostel that the situation is controlled and it is safe to return.
The city guard has arrived as well. A group of six dwarves armed with halberds and chain mail is in front of the inn.

The city guard has arrived as well. A group of six dwarves armed with halberds and chain mail is in front of the inn.
Xymox will approach the Inn keeper and try to convince him that The Company was not at fault, and actually, Starker SAVED the inn and all the people in it. (deception check 21)
(Xymox inclines his head, his tone gentler than usual, the usual gleam of sarcasm softened to a respectful luster.)
“Innkeeper, allow me to offer a proper apology. Things… very nearly got out of hand. Had it not been for Starker’s swift and level-headed magic, this place might be ash and memory.”
(He glances at the mage and his murder monkey then back.)
“He acted with precision and courage. Whatever you may have heard of mages—or drow, for that matter—today, he kept this roof above us all. And for that, and the trouble caused, I’m truly sorry.”
Xymox winds his way through the fleeing patrons up the stairs to the second floor landing where the innkeeper is glaring a hole through Starker. His words are soothing, and somewhat confusing. The innkeeper looks to pop a vein in his temple as he responds, "But he.....there was........all the yelling," he stammers as he looks about. Finally, his shoulders droop and he mutters under his breath in Starker's general direction, "...thanks..." He then wanders down the steps and starts talking with the excited patrons of the inn and trying to coax them back inside.
“Well, that buys us a precious few moments, but the good patrons are bound to start piecing things together—over ale and side-eyes. I suggest we make ourselves delightfully scarce before curiosity turns to conversation… or confrontation.”
Chadwick sounding annoyed. "Well guess we're not going to get ANY sleep tonight. I might as well put on my armor." He stalks back to his room talking at the demon in the box. "Dare you to pop out now, that should be a good view." He's says as he tries to shield his nethers from the other hotels guests.
The sounds of banging plate armor and some spirited cursing (which sounds like a dead goat full of rocks rolling down a hill) comes from Chadwick's room.
Starker:”Friend Kragen: now that some time has passed since you banished the entity need we worry about it re-appearing?”
Finds Trokarl: “I was worried that the creaturw whose torso manifested above the box might be driven to further mischief if it were to see Darkbane. I am sorry I did not have time to explain or consult.”
To all:”The kyton’s appearance, or my recollection of it, does not correapond to that of the creature we just saw. Also, I am not certain if it emanated from the talisman or the ring. Perhaps we should separate them and use some of the spare lead sheets to enfold the ring and keep it separate from the talisman in the box??
Starker: “Yes, the more I think on it the more I believe that the entity the cloudy torso most resembled was the wraith we fought at the docks, and not the Kyton. I think it may be emanating from the ring, not the talisman?”
Starker, you were working with the information we had at the time. And there was an urgent threat to the people here. There’s no reason for you to apologize to me.
Normally, when we encounter a very powerful evil, Darkbane speaks to me. It is interesting. Tonight, wasn’t guided by my patron. I expected something under the circumstances, but only silence.
As Chadwick grabs the container. “Sir Chadwick, My enchantment and Tyr’s divine power has a limited effect at banishing this construct. I suggest that I retain possession of the box/items as I may be best equipped to handle when it returns.” Reaches out to take the item from Chadwick.
”I would appreciate your and the others help in destroying these items tonight! I suggest 2 possible options.” If others are in the room he addresses them as well.
”although I am not practiced at destroying magical constructs, the 2 course of action I can surmise are… return to the Temple and inquire their assistance? At that point, the aberration likely will have returned and they will see its risk. Or, make haste outside of Mirabar and in a secluded area, attempt to destroy the ring ourselves, which I know not how to accomplish. First inclination would be to smash the ring gem with The Judge!”
pauses for feedback before continuing to his room to cloth and gather his items and don his armor.
Starker:”We also have our experience destroying the shadow lantern. We built a forge, it was ‘blessed’, we fireballed/bolted it, and thus destroyed the forge and then Cyrus helped process and spread the remains of the glads throughout the path of our subsequent journey.
”Kragen, your banishment may have removed the evil echo from the ring entirely. I suggest you see if you can detect evil again.”
Chadwick returns bristling with his normal armaments. "Kragen, I concur we should and try destroying the items ourselves. I think the adamantine sword might work better than the Judge though." He says pausing part way through to yawn.

Starker:”Chadwick, I suggest you pick the box up and run as far as you can get from things you don’t want me to destroy.”
Puts on Cloak of protection over his robe, follows if Chadwick does so.
Hoid will emerge from his room with boots and cloak on, greatsword in hand. And grumpy.
And he willl immediately go back in, put on his helmet, and come back out.
