The former hostages, soon-to-be beer ghouls, are assisted out of their captivity to the upper floor of the brewery. Yanthin is shocked and distressed seeing what you have found under his brewery. "That devious Speck never told me of a basement!," he cries when seeing the sad state of those you rescued. He then works to assist you with the people and runs to the river to get buckets of water to boil.
The Company returns to the basement to continue your search for "...what arose from below..." to satisfy Caellia's quest to Chadwick. The circular room and the room filled with cots turn up nothing of interest.
The storeroom still is filled with an exceptionally foul reek. Searching there, Starker and Trolkarl are overcome by the reek and are now Poisoned.
The search of the storeroom reveals a barrel mark on all of the casks and barrels here. It is of a cracked goblet surrounded by thorny branches. The rest of you continue to search while Starker and Trolkarl suffer. Behind the casks to the left of the hall you entered through, Kragen and Xymox both spot something peculiar that appears to be a rectangular cut out in the wall. Perhaps a secret door?
“I purchased the brewery from Speck ten years ago,” Yanthin says pouring a bucket of water into a very large pot. “ Let’s just say that things were not exactly as portrayed in the negotiations,” he says with an angry edge. “He left town immediately after I purchased the place,” as he is leaving to get more water.
Starker is unable to discern anything out of the ordinary from the books.
There are descriptions of the work on the pipes to bring the spring water directly into the brewery and the modification to the brewery to facilitate this. These date to 15-16 years ago.
If we can spend the hour it would be best. Kragen's current sit is 3 L1, 1 L3, and 1 L4 slot left. Half of my slots spent to this point and i will not get any slots back with a short rest. We will need them when we fight something more substantial.
Can we do anything to prepare ourselves for passing through the storage room?
Xymox can re-cast Motivational Speech. That would be his last 3rd level spell.

You address allies, staff, or innocent bystanders to exhort and inspire them to greatness, whether they have anything to get excited about or not. Choose up to five creatures within range that can hear you. For the duration, each affected creature gains 5 temporary hit points and has advantage on Wisdom saving throws. If an affected creature is hit by an attack, it has advantage on the next attack roll it makes. Once an affected creature loses the temporary hit points granted by this spell, the spell ends for that creature.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the temporary hit points increase by 5 for each slot level above 3rd.
An aura radiates from you in a 30-foot Emanation for the duration. While in the aura, you and your allies have Resistance to Poison damage and Advantage on saving throws to avoid or end effects that include the Blinded, Charmed, Deafened, Frightened, Paralyzed, Poisoned, or Stunned condition.

/ooc that was a great write up, much appreciated! Chris you are doing a fine job with Chadwick, also appreciated.
Chadwick will use 10 HP to cure poison on Starker and Trolkarl.
/Occ the party is starting so won't be able to post for awhile, but wanted to chime in real quick.
Chadwick uses his healing abilities to relieve Trolkarl and Starker of their Poisoned conditions, much to their relief.
/Plans?
We should take a short rest before investigating what lies behind the secret door.
I would definitely be more effective with a short break. However, if there are others in danger, we should act quickly.
Yanthin, is Speck the devious individual nearby? What was your last interaction with him?
“I purchased the brewery from Speck ten years ago,” Yanthin says pouring a bucket of water into a very large pot. “ Let’s just say that things were not exactly as portrayed in the negotiations,” he says with an angry edge. “He left town immediately after I purchased the place,” as he is leaving to get more water.
Starker examines brewery’s books from around 10-15 years ago to see if anything remarkable appears. If it does, he will remark on it.
(Investigation = 22)
Starker is unable to discern anything out of the ordinary from the books.
There are descriptions of the work on the pipes to bring the spring water directly into the brewery and the modification to the brewery to facilitate this. These date to 15-16 years ago.
The Company retreats to the brewery for a short rest. Starker reviews the books and ledgers during this time.

A short rest is taken.
/Plans?
No further prep for me.
I say we make haste to the secret door. There are very possibly other innocent Drunkards to be saved.
Make haste *after* an hour nap…..
Still faster than Mayor Quimby
Short rest is completed.
