With Aoufie’s and Anthony’s explanation, Ismark seems to relax a little bit. He moves to go help Anthony carry the moldering bodies out. “Probably best to let the Father cool down a bit before we bring him back here,” he remarks.
With Ismark’s help, you manage to find 5 corpses in the basement. Three of them appear to be adults, but any sign of gender or identity have been eaten away by both grubs and time. The smell in the basement is almost unbearable with the decaying bodies now exposed. Ismark’s face is disgusted as he helps, and he dry heaves a few times as he helps, but he stays silent as he goes about the solemn chore.
With Kora following the tracks, they lead her towards the town for a few moments before, oddly, they leave the trail and start heading back towards the church. Curious, she follows the two sets of prints as they take her towards the cemetery out back.
She skitters over the short, stacked stone wall around the cemetery and clambers around tomb stones. As she rounds a particularly large monolith, she sees with horror the crumpled and pale form of Ireena lying on the ground. Her breathing is shallow, and you see a small puckered cut on her arm. The wound is a purple-green color, and it oozes something with a yellow-ish tint. Dark lines spread away from the wound, a clear sign of poison. Beads of sweat pour down her face as she groans and mutters something incoherent.
Kora also sees Father Donovan’s footsteps heading back to the church where the secret door is. Judging the distance and depth of the steps, you can tell he sprinted towards the church.
"Damn it! I was wrong!" Akyan thinks as he rushes over to Ireena's crumpled form. "Curse that Bloody priest!" He's hesitant to touch the woman, healing isn't his specialty and he's not sure if moving her would worsen the condition...but then again if they don't do something... "Kora, do you know any healing? If you don't we need to get her to Anthony or Zathon. I can't do anything for her." He says out loud despite maintaining his mental link with the spider.
Kora-spider's legs go flat and her body almost touches the ground as Akyan's voice pierces her brain. She was not ready for that, especially already on edge with whoever had snuck in and tried to lock them in with a vampire. Tentatively, she reaches back to him, Ok... stick with me, alright?
Composing herself, she follows the footsteps, getting worried as they head back to the cemetary, and when she stumbles across Ireena, her body spins around and Kora emerges back into a human. Screaming at the sight of who they were supposed to protect, she looks to Akyan, "Yes.. I will do what I can, quick, go get the others."
Casting healing word at 2nd level, she tries to give Ireena 6 hp (rolled two 1s!)
Yelling back at Akyan, "Looks like Father Donovan was running back to the church, find him!!"
Anthony limps over to do what he can, though there's little he an offer other than support. Talking to Ireena whether she was conscious or not as he elevated her head."Breath slow, don't move too much. We'll see what we can do." taking his healing kit and tying a tourniquet above the wound as a precaution until they could determine how deadly the poison was.
"Did he really think he'd get away with something like this?"Anthony understood desperation to point. This was just insanity. He'd already been caught. What a waste.
((Med check to identify the poison was 5 - 10 if there's enough help with other people around or his background) to give him adv))
"I think this place should burn.." Zathon says back to Anthony. There was no way this place was still holy ground.
He helps haul the bodies out. He doesn't complain. He's seen his fair share of bodies over the course of his lives.
At the yelling and find of Ireena he takes one look at the girl then places a hand over the wound, a silvery light washing over it."I hope that helps.." --------------- Using 5 points of lay on hands to neutralize one poison
Anthony doesn't say much as they work on the bodies, but a grim nod of thanks to both Zathon and Ismark for their help shows his appreciation.
He blows out a relieved puff of air as Zathon does what he can to help Ireena and waits to make sure the magic works before removing the torniquet and offers her some reassurance whether she's fully coherent or not. "I know it's uncomfortable. We'll take it off in a few minutes once we're sure you're stable. It's safe to leave in place for a couple of hours."
Looking around at the others nearby, "So, what are we doing about Donovan?" It wasn't that he didn't have any empathy for the priest, but his actions went far beyond trying to help his son. People who thought like that.. "Honestly, would have been better to just let the kid go be a vampire than what he was doing." The big man shook his head. "This is.." $%*#&@. That's what it was.
"Well Ismark I think burning this place down may be the best idea and Father Donovan is no longer a man of faith." says Aoufie as he stands within the church. Hearing the yell, he pokes his head out an seeing others cast healing he stays behind with a sense of dread as his heart starts pounding. "Oh no, where is Father Donovan?" he looks around the church for signs of the man.
When Kora using her healing magic, she seems to calm down a bit, the black veins receding for a moment. However, her renewed health only lasts for just that moment. A fraction of a second later, the dark lines of venom on her body surge forward crawling up her arm and part of her neck, almost like the poison was feeding off of the healing magic. She writhes and gasps, her eyes sooting open as they gaze blindly at the cloudy firmament overhead.
Things are looking grim for Ireena, but luckily for her, Zathon is able to burn away the malevolent toxin. The lines fade, and Ireena slips back into blissful unconsciousness.
Ismark is hot on Zathon’s heels as he sprints towards his sister. He arrives right after the elven paladin purifies the poison, and he drops to his knees beside Ireena. He looks her over and checks for his pulse, panic clear on his face. Seeing she will do fine now the poison is gone, he breathes a sigh of relief and leans back. He looks up at Zathon with a tear in his eyes and a face full of gratitude. “Thank you! You saved her!”
Anthony doesn’t identify the poison. In fact, he’s never heard of a toxin that seems to counter healing magic.
As Aoufie snoops around, he spots Father Donovan’s tracks heading towards the side of the church, but he sees no sign of the man.
Jared is able to find some of his tracks heading towards town, but the trail disappears as the muddy path meets the worn cobblestones of the town.
Jared returns to the party. "I found tracks going into town but not sure if they belong to the priest," he tells them. "If he were to head into town, is there a place he would feel safe?" he directs the question to Ismark.
"That was a particularly virulent poison. Unnatural." Weird that Father Donovan would just happen to have it at the ready. Anthony scrubbed his hair in frustration. He wasn't made of figuring this kind of thing out. "Nothing about this really makes sense. Doru mentioned a master. Probably Strahd, right? His maker? So.. I could see his father maybe trying to subdue Ireena as a ... prize or a trade for his son. But.... something that aggressive and deadly.. Maybe he didn't know what it was?
"Just doing what I can,"he says to Ismark. "She should be fine with some rest. Please take her home, we'll be along shortly after we finish here."
He looks back to the church for a moment then shakes his head. "This has not been a holy place in a long while.."
He clasps Ismark's shoulder then heads back inside the church to look for anything of use or a reason for the priests actions. ------------------- Perception: 5 Investigation: 8

"Maybe..." He was keeping the kid fed though. And killing people to do it. Not really the kind of person who acted like they believed in merciful deaths. To Ismark Anthony asks, "Do you need help getting her home?"
Kora shrinks back from Ireena seeing what her "healing" had done to her. She breathes a sigh of relief as Zathon is actually able to help the woman. "Impressive." she whispers to him once he's finished. They may be stuck in this god forsaken land, but she is enjoying re-acquaint herself with her siblings which is surprising her as she remembers how she couldn't get away from their home fast enough when she became of age.
As Aoufie starts to follow the tracks, Kora positions herself so she can watch him. She doesn't want to interfere, but also doesn't want him ambushed.
Still kneeling by his unconscious sister, Ismark responds to Anthony with, “I can probably carry her myself, I would appreciate some company just in case some decides they want to finish her off.”
As Zathon heads inside the decrepit church to search for clues, he finds one the small rooms towards the front of the church to be the Father’s bedroom and office. A small straw-filled mattress with a stained blanket lies unkempt in one corner. A large painting of a rising sun hangs from a wall, and he recognizes that it is very similar to painting back in Grymhearth.
A small wooden desk a rests against the wall, and two tattered books lie open upon it. By closing the books, sees the titles are “Dawnchants: Hymnals to the Morninglord,” and “Light to Darkness: A Do-Gooder’s Guide for Stamping Out the Oppression of Darkness.” Other than that, he doesn’t find much of import here.
Auofie finds the trail takes him to a secret door on the side of the church that hangs slightly ajar. The tracks head in, but he also sees the same set of tracks leading towards town. You assume he went into the church to do something and then used the secret door to leave and head towards the huddled buildings of Barovia. Aoufie stealthily makes his way into town, following the hints of a trail left by Father Donovan. The rain makes his job of tracking incredibly difficult, but he manages to keep to the trail. A few spots off mud on the moist cobblestones is all he needs to find his way.
Surprisingly, the trail leads out of town. Following it a bit further, it heads west along a mire of a road that disappears into the distance.
This is all very strange. Father Donovan seemed sincere in his faith, and even though he wasn’t the most well-kept person out there, he seemed sincere if a bit misguided. What would posses him to do such a thing as almost killing Ireena, locking strangers in a room with a vampire, and then fleeing? So many questions!
Anthony is more focused on doing what he can. Five people should be able to handle Donovan, even if he has backup, so he decides to make sure Ismark isn't ambushed on the way home. "I'll watch your back." he follows Ismark back to their house. To do what he can there. Be a human shield if nothing else.
Jared picks up rear guard and keeps an eye out while Anthony escorts Ismark and his sister. "We need to get back and dug in before nightfall." he whispers to Anthony. "The nights here will be much more dangerous, especially for the woman, and us in turn as her escorts."

Range 30ft to his siblings and sends a message with his regular speaking voice as to not yell and potentially spook Father Donovan.

He follows the tracks as quietly as he can.
